@mvh: tired legs on a stage that turned out to be more technical than I thought it would be. The long descent to the finish made it very hard to chase back on after the split. His recent performances have been great so no reason to worry about the result. I will bring you some news tonight that you may enjoy though
@sutty:Simon was fantastic in the race. At the start of the season, he was planned as the team's main UK domestic racer but he is now one of the key riders for the big European races

@sutty: she's a lovely girl I found when looking for a bianchi logo for my new banner. Thought she was rather appropriate to advertise the bianchi part of my story I like her moustache
@voets: still not bad results considering it is the early races for a new team. We have just started in a great way

Coppa Citta di Stresa
14th March 2013
After a nice rest after Roma Maxima, the team get back on the road in Italy at the Coppa Citta di Stresa. Classed as a flat stage, there are still some challenging climbs on the route that could cause a shock win for a more puncheur type rider.
Caleb Ewan will lead the team in the sprints, having refreshed his tired legs from Le Tour de Langkawi. He will supported by his right hand man Philip Lavery, whilst Rene Mandri, Daniel Lloyd and Damien Monier complete the lead out train.
Simon Richardson will captain the team on the road, with the experienced Tom Southam working as domestique. The line up is completed by Owain Doull, who makes his long awaited debut for the team.
There is no set Sponsor Goal, but we will be hoping for at least a Top 5 finish for the team.

Coppa Citta di Stresa
Suno-Stresa -- 187.5km
The plan is to work for Caleb on the stage. The run into the finish will be fast, so we will have to get organised quick and make sure he is in the best place to have a chance to win.
Like with the other races, we will look to put someone in the break, just to ease the pressure on the other back in the peleton. Could be an interesting stage today... The weather is not looking good out there!
Favourites | Outsiders | Don't Under Estimate | Y. Hutarovich (ALM) | S. Dumoulin (ALM) | L. Duque (COL) | C. Ewan (RBR) | D. Napolitano (AJW) | F. Felline (AND) | S. Colbrelli (BAR) | L. Mondory (ALM) | F. Chicchi (FAR) |
Well the weather had really had an effect on the race, but it was nothing to do with the riders. It had knocked out the TV feed, and we were relying on Race Radio for updates.
Time Gap -- 20km
Peleton > 3'47 > Leaders
When the TV coverage was ready again, it was clear to see why they had issues. The weather was horrendous.
CRASH! The tricky condition take their first victim, as Rotyakov (TIK) crashes out of the breakaway group off camera. He had a long chase to catch them up.
AG2R, Cannondale and Bardiani took the main control of the peleton, as the weather conditions began to dry up.
Time Gap -- 55km
Peleton > 5'37 > Leaders
The day's brek was 10 riders strong, with Mathew Lloyd (LAM), Philip Deignan (UHC) and Alexey Lutsenko (AST) being the most notable. Sadly, despite the attempts of Doull, we failed to be part of the early escape.
The break worked well, but as they approached the finishing circuit and short climbs above Stresa, Rotyakov's crash had taken effect and he was quickly dropped.
Time Gap -- 120km
Peleton > 2'44 > Leaders
On the short climb, the opportunists of the peleton tried to break away, putting extra pressure on the peleton. Tsatevitch (KAT) was the first to try his luck.
On the second ascent, a more serious attack was put in some riders. Ponzi (AST) and Moser (CAN) had attacked and bridged to the break, whilst Malori (LAM) and Florencio (KAT) were in hot pursuit behind.
5km to go, and the break still had 44" over the peleton. We appeared to be the only ones who formed a valid looking lead-out, as panic spread across the sprinter's teams.
All but Ponzi was caught at the Flamme Rouge, and Caleb was chasing him down fast, but the advantage looked to be with Hutarovich in the fight for the victory.
WHAT A SPRINT! Caleb takes the win, sneaking in ahead of Hutarovich and a tired Ponzi on the line. You little beauty! Great win.

I know I say this every time, but I am constantly left speechless by the work and effort of this team! Today was a prime example of what a fine talented squad we have, and Caleb was just outstanding at the end. Looking back, I think we deserved the win, seeing only us worked in the chase in the last 10km, and everyone seemed to use us for the lead-out.
So we have some of the squad staying in Italy for the Settimana Coppi e Bartali, and another group heading to Corsica for the Criterium International. Let's see if I am left speechless again...

@voets: Thanks! The lead-out was Monier-Lloyd-Mandri-Lavery-Ewan in that picture. Ewan is just out of screen (you can just see his helmet )

Bianchi HQ, Treviglo, Italy
17th March 2013
** BREAKING NEWS **
Villella pens new deal
Rapha-Bianchi Team Manager Phil Hoyle today announced that Davide Villella has signed a new deal with the Anglo-Italian team, extending his current contract to 2016.
In a statement outside Bianchi's Headquarters in Italy, Hoyle revealed his delight at the signing of a new deal. He said 'Davide has shown recently why he is a huge talent for the future of Italian cycling, and we couldn't be happier with him extending his current contract.'
A lot of other teams have been looking into the signing of Villella, 22, with even Hoyle revealing that Cannondale had rung him directly to ask about the rider's future. 'Davide is at a point in his career where he needs to be in the right place to develop his potential, and everyone concerned feel that Rapha-Bianchi is that place' stated Hoyle. 'Yes, it is true that bigger teams were looking at him, asking about him, and wanting his signature for next year, but after talking with Davide and his family, he wanted to stay with Rapha-Bianchi and I was delighted to hear it.
Villella is scheduled to next race at the Settimana Coppi e Bartali, where he will be no doubt looking for a Top 10 finish.

What a sprint from Caleb. Was rooting for Moser when I saw the 44 second gap with so little to go, but great teamwork from the team.
Good to see Villella staying with the team, he will bring the team great wins in the future. Now you only need to get Moser and I'll be a happy follower. |

@voets: as soon as Cannondale showed interest, number one priority was to get him re-signed I was expecting to wait til July for a reply, but nope - response within 4 days
@mvh: Moser came in 4th, so still a good result. At one point I was only thinking it would be a podium at best, but wow what a way to win and how do you know Moser is one of my transfer targets... I think some information has been leaked from within
