Route of Elk Grove Stage 2
Today's stage is a relatively short circuit race in the Elk Grove Village. It should come down to a mass sprint. The team hopes for a podium from Sbaragli.
The Race
After around 30 kms, a group of four got away from the peloton. It included: Walker of Drapac, Eastman of Bontragor, Diaz of 5HR Energy, and Acevedo of Jamis.
Nothing interesting happened over the next 100 km, and the break was brought back at the 30 km to go point.
We jump to 10 km to go, and Danny Pate is flying on the front, and the short train is doing good in its debut.
With 5 km to go, Pate swings off and its my turn to pull on the front. I rode well today, and put Sbaragli in a good position at the finish.
1 km to go, and it's a two horse race between Sbaragli and Hanson. Who would take the win?
Hanson takes it by half a wheel! Sbaragli went a little too early, and the American takes the win for Optum- Kelly Benefit Strategies. Jake Keough takes third, with Irish champion Brammeier in fourth.

Post Race Comments- Good effort from the team today; we put Sbaragli in a good position, but he went around just a little too early. Tomorrow's stage is basically the same thing as today's stage; pan-flat

Route of Elk Grove Stage 3
The final stage of the Route of Elk Grove is another pan-flat circuit race. Today it is very windy, and the crosswinds should cause time gaps. The team hopes for another podium.
The Race
A five man group came together at the gun. The escapees were: Clancy of Novo Nordisk, Bevin of Bissell, Hill of Hincapie Sportswear, Cook of Jamis, and Eastman of Bontrager.
The break was caught shortly before the intermediate sprint, and the stage would go to a sprinter.
With 12 km to go, there was a mass crash, taking down almost half the field. Our Meron Russom broke his collarbone in the crash.
Meanwhile at the front of the race, the combination of Danny Pate and 60 km winds have split the lead group into a small bunch of 19 riders.
With 3 km to go, it is down to 6 riders at the front. Sbaragli is in a great position, can he take the win?
No he can't! Jake Keough takes the win by a large distance! Sbaragli takes second, overall winner Ken Hanson takes third on the stage. I finish in 7th.
Stage Results

Post Race Comments- A very hectic stage today. I hope that Russom is okay. I finish the race with two top 10s and 7th in the GC. I think that I'm ready for the Tour of Utah.

Tour of Utah Preview, Stage 1
The 2013 Tour of Utah is highlighted by the big mountains. The last two stages should be the biggest days for the GC. Stage 5 is a summit finish at Snowbird, and stage 6 is a downhill finish in Park City.
I'm the leader in this race and the team has brought most of its good climbers to help me. Sbaragli is here for the two possible sprint stages.
There are a lot of guys that could win here. I'd say that Frank Schleck, Matthias Frank, and myself are the favorites for the GC. Some outsiders are Caruso, Acevedo, and Danielson.
Stage 1
The profile is harder on paper than it is on the road. It could end with a mass sprint, or a breakaway taking the win. I hope to avoid losing time.
The Race
A three man group got away in the descent of the first climb. The escapees: Brown of Bontrager, Clancy of Novo Nordisk, and Young of Optum.
The last hill on slowed the chase and there were no attacks on the climb. With 20 km to go, the gap is still at 2 30.
With 8 km to go, Young is thinking about victory, and launches an attack from the break. He has a gap of 1 30 to the peloton.
With 1 km to go, Young has a gap of 10 seconds to Clancy, and another 15 to the bunch. Can he hold on?
Yes! Young takes the first stage of the Tour of Utah! Hanson takes the field sprint for second making it a 1-2 for Optum Kelly Benefit Strategies! Gallopin takes third, Sabatini fourth, and Clancy. I take 21st on the day.

baia: Not sure, I guess they have lots of solid riders, and they brought all their good riders to this race.
Today's stage is harder than yesterday's, and has a slightly uphill finish. I would expect to see the break hauled back towards the end, and a reduced bunch sprint. I will see how Sbaragli does with the climbs before the sprint and then go from there.
The Race
Six riders got away on the first climb. They were: De Maar of UnitedHealthCare, Vennell of Bissell, Stemper of 5HR Energy, Roth of Champion System, Jacques-Maynes of Jamis, and Mannion of Bontrager. They were later joined by Hagman of Jelly Belly.
On the last climb, the break fractured, and there it is down to Jacques-Maynes and Mannion at the front. Their gap is 3 30 to the 61 rider bunch.
With 15 km to go, the duo are still in front by 2 min ahead of the Optum- Kelly Benefit Strategies lead peloton.
5 km to go, and leaders appear to have run out of gas, the gap has dwindled to 30 in 10 km.
With 3500 m to go, the escapees are caught. Sbaragli says that he is too tired to go for the win, and I will sprint for myself.
1 km to go, and I jump out from behind Sbaragli, and I start to advance through the peloton. Who would take the win?
First Win! I take the win! I'm too surprised to raise my arms at the finish, so you can see who I beat in the top left. I passed Hondo at the 100 m to go to take win #1!

Post Race Comments- It sure is great to get into the win column! I can't believe I was able to pass Hondo in the last 100 m! Big thanks to Danny Pate, Van Niekerk, Janse Van Rensburg, and Grmay today. They worked their asses off on the last climb and the last 10 km. I've got to go do a doping control, so i better sign off. Tomorrow's stage is classified as MT, but I'm not too worried about the climb.
See You Then- Ian

There's the win MTN has been waiting for!
baseballlover312, 06-03-14 : "Nuke Moscow...Don't worry Russia, we've got plenty of love to go around your cities"
Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"
Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!
