15th - 22th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
Whilst the world's eyes are on Italy and the Giro, the Amgen Tour of Calfornia kicks off in the US.
HTC come to the race with three goals. Stage victories, the Points Jersey and a podium placement on GC.
I will lead the team in the sprints, where my lead out train will be made up by Mark Renshaw, Bernie Eisel and Danny Pate.
Tejay van Garderen will lead the team on the road, supported by Peter Velits and Tony Martin.
Craig Lewis completed the line up, and will work with a domestique to the team.

Beautiful win for Rujano, though
Anton is riding really well. Marco is nicely just behind in 2nd though. The other GC favourites seem unable to keep up on the climbs. Roche is looking dangerous as well.
A full team rundown is going to be posted on the race day in 2 stages time.

Goss lost the Under 25 jersey as soon as the route went upwards, and Gretsch and Smukulis lost too much time on early stages to contend.
Pinotti is just 34" back on Anton in second so Pink might be in reach. Other favourites are 1min+ behind Pinotti in GC, so team tactics might change towards a high GC finish instead of just a top10.

15th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(S. Lake Tahoe - Northstar)
It's a tough first stage to the Amgen Tour of California. Flat for the most part, but the steep rises will certainly cause some gaps.
A day for Tejay or Peter, who will be on high alert to any GC favourites who might want to get away on the climb 5km from the finish.
Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) took the victory after a nice sprint finish into Northstar. Tejay was the highest placed HTC rider in ninth. I came home with the main peleton 55" back.

Thanks Sutty! 2 jerseys in the target really. Green with Cav and Under 25 with Tejay.
Rabon did well, but bad day for Pinotti

16th May 2011 - Amgen Tour of California
(Lake Tahoe - Sacramento)
Stage 2 is where I get to stretch my legs for the first time in this year's Amgen Tour of California. Starting high in the Mountains, the route heads down hill very quickly, before ending on the flat in Sacramento.
After his successful day on the road yesterday, Craig will look to defend his KoM jersey.
13km: After quiet start high in the Californian Mountain, it was an attack by Koen De Kort (Skil) that sparked life into the race. With his KoM jersey to defend, Craig set off in pursuit.
27km: On the climb up to the KoM sprint, the break grew in size, and the peleton quickly brought it back. Seizing the opportunity, Craig set off on his own on the climb.
120km: Craig took full points on the climb, extending his lead to 6 points. On the descent, approaching the Intermediate Sprint point, he opened up a lead of over 8'34" on the peleton.
123km: With just Craig on his own out front, I took the sprint for 2nd, picking up 4 points. Lampre decided to pick up the pace, aiding by Sky and Leopard in the chase.
182km: With 30km to go, Craig was brought back. He had nothing left, so he was never going to stay out infront on his own til the finish.
184km: Almost immediately, former World Champion Alessandro Ballan set off on his own, testing the peleton's resolve to chase.
198km: CRASH! Approaching the outskirts of Sacramento, the peleton got caught out on a roundabout. I, along with the rest of the HTC guys, was safely at the front, ahead of the crash, but Race Radio was saying a lot of riders went down, including Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso.
209km: Back at the front, the lead outs began to form, and Sky took full control, with Wiggins working hard for Boasson Hagen.
212km: As the sprint started, Boasson Hagen looked odds on favourite for the win. Sky had done brilliantly to put his in the perfect place...
213km: But they will need to do more than that to beat me! Boasson Hagen had clearly gone too early, and I easily came around him in the final metres to take the win.
