If Gesink comes anywhere near his pre-injury climbing form than he should win this. Van Garderen and Talansky, how much talented they are, don't come near THAT climbing level.
But we don't know if he comes anywhere near that form. And it would be the first time since he broken his leg in the winter.
I'm really curious to saturday now
Usually guys coming back don't do well in successive days of effort. These GC stages are all in a row. If it was straight into the mountains I'd expect him to do well, but I don't think there should be any disappointment if he fails.
He just needs time and he'll be fine

Well this is by far his best performance since injury. And he usually does well in America, far from the attention of Dutch press |

Rory Sutherland is dangerous imo.
He has probably come in with great form, as its one of UnitedHealthcares biggest races.
Duarte could do well, but I really think it's Gesink's to lose now.

And Gesink keeps improving his TTing, this was a really good one, considering we're still 6 weeks away from the Tour. Cool.

Great TT from Gesink, nice to see him in bit of form again. Velits good but not great on his TT standarts, now Garmin vs. Gesink vs. Velits battle?
And Sagan sucked badly, but TT is by far his worst discipline, so it was expected. Nibbles not in form, but he still has lot of time and kows when to be in form.
Edit: Oh, and i forgot to praise mighty Jens

That was a very good ride from Gesink. He should win the overall easily as long as he stays on his bike the whole way home.
Horner shouldn't be too happy on the other hand.

Considering Gesink TT has been better than his climbing sometimes, I am not going say anything and predict he won't win this somehow I'd say Talansky might surprise, really good in Romandie and should be even better here.

I know and I think the same, Gesink has a mysterious way of not winning stage-races when they are up for grabs.
When he was leading Suisse 2010 he had good time trials all year, but ruined that one (and lost the race to F.Schleck of all people). Same with the Tour 2010 (which caused him to have a bad TT rep, which he didn't deserve).
And when he did really good ITT's in Pais Vasco and Tirreno 2011, his climbing was not on the usual standards.
So I guess we won't know until Baldy has been done

You mean Sagan sprint?
I am not sure if he could or would like to hang there, lets see. Also Velits and Talansky are good sprinters from the climbers.

Wouldn't surprise me if he won there too. He has after all done it before.

I dont know if Sagan will be there at the end. I think Horner will be putting in multiple attacks today and his best effort to try to get as much time back as he can. And last year on Sierra Road he gained 1:15 on the 2nd place finisher, Andy Schleck. I don't know if the Sierra Rd finish was harder than the one today. Certainly more climbing today.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime. Teach a man to cycle and he will realize fishing is stupid and boring.

I have criticized this race a lot, but it is pretty incredible that the organizers of Giro, Romandie, Paris - Nice, Tirreno - Adriatico, Pais Vasco and others haven't realized yet that the ITT must come before the mountains, while ToC's have.

It's not as hard at the finish, but Horner will be insane today nevertheless.

Honestly looking at the finish, I could see Sagan being up there.
I want him to win. Maybe Haussler can finish 2nd too, just to keep this record going.

I won't be surprised if Sagan is still there at the end. As high mountain stages go this is a pretty easy one.
Tomorrow is when he gets dropped way down

Looks to me like Georges has this stage wrapped up already.
Don't understand how Salas could just throw it away.

Not for viewing figures. I won't bother with a TT before a the climbs. But after I will, because it matters.
The Giro 2010, the tour 2008, even the tour last year, great TT's to finish the race off. Romandie even this year the TT was decent.
Whereas I can never be bothered to watch something like the Cali TT this year, or the Dauphines last year. If the TT isn't the final decisive stage then it's not a must watch, it's just stage setting.

A TT before the mountains makes the next stages a must watch. A TT after the mountains makes, more often than not, the previous stages a borefest. I can live with GTs having a TT as last stage,as long as they have another long TT before, but in one week races it just kills the racing before.
