Pozzovivo was surprisingly strong as well. Had expected him to really struggle in the wind today.

Pinotti is the first ranked contender according to Alakagom
So he counts the time behind him, not Phinney.

Great ride by Alex and Boaro. Danish on podium and Boaro 4th and WorldTour points to Saxo Bank. This is a good day!!
Congrats to Phinney - he seemed REALLY in good shape and SO ready when i did an interview with him yesterday, so he was my big favorite.

9th in 2010, then crashed out last year. He's not bad at all.

Kreuziger has always been better at prologues than anything else. Very bad sign that he wasn't right up there for the stage win.
And Basso is usually horrendous at these things. Either he had a really good day or....

Exactly, while he won't win he has a good chance of Top 10 and is a contender.

That's a very interesting point. I'm beginning to regret swapping Basso out of my fantasy team.

How is it with bonus seconds? Only at finish or finish and intermediate sprint?

Kreuziger was beyond horrible in the Tirreno ITT though. Worse than today.
And Basso shocked me. I thought that he would struggle during the first week, at least, but after this I don't know what to think.

Maybe he has foccussed on mountain training instead and that has blunted his ability somewhat.

That it wasn't even a 10 km course, that it was windy and apparently had some cobbles (I say apparently 'cos I didn't watch it), which makes a lot of factor that may have had a random influence on riders, and caused the results to be what they are.
Rather meaningless so far, IMO. |
