@AndySchleck, Tuco & baia: Thank you! I'll try to kep Gesink in the yellow. His form is great (98, just like Vanenderts) and he has 81 in Mountains, so he can make it.
Don't know how many reports will come the next few days. I go for a road ride myself this saturday (115km, never ride this long so far), viit some frineds and have a BBQ on Sunday. And of course watch the final 3 stages of the Vuelta and the UWT races in Quebec and Montreal!

Stage 13: finally, the mountains. I nthis 167km long stage we ride from Spilimbergo to the Grossglockner, with 4 KOTM-sprints: Passo di Monte Croce Carnico (2nd cat, 10.4km, 4.9%), Gailbergsattel (3rd cat, 6.8km, 4.1%), Iselsbergpass (2nd cat, 8.5km, 6.5%) and the Kasereck (1st cat, 13.6km, 6.8%). Then after a short downhill section, we go to the finish higher on the slopes of the Grossglockner. The finish is at an altitude of 2137!
A small group gets away after some earlier breakaways. One of those early breakaways are up front while they cross the line of the Intermediate sprint (Finetto (Liq), Reda (QSt), Benatti (Leo)), but a true elite-group ride alone over the mountains: Ivan Basso (Liquigas), Paolo Tiralongo (Astana), Mauro Pinotti (HTC) and Daniel Martin (Garmin).
Monte Croce: 1. Basso, 2. Pinotti, 3. Tiralongo.
Gailbergsattel: 1. Pinotti, 2. Tiralongo, 3. Basso.
Iselsbergpass: 1. Pinotti, 2. Tiralongo, 3. Basso.
The maximum advantage gets about 5 minutes.
One climb to go: to the Grossglockner!
When they've just started to climb the Basso and Pinotti ride away from their 2 companions. The lead is still 3'53.
12km to go and the first of the favourites attacks. It's José Rujano from Androni. He's still 3'54 behind Pinotti and Basso.
Up front. Pinotti has droppes Basso. In the peloton, after a small group that got away in the descent of the Iselsbergspass (Duarte, Sastre, Machado & Serpa) got caught, Gesink suddenly falls back to the last part of the 50-man group. He gets blocked by Saxo's C.A. Sorensen and at the sime time, Jurgen van den Broeck (Omega Pharma) gives it a go (8km left).
Gesink looses one minute when he finally can ride his own pace. He's furious, and passes a lot of riders. Meanwhile, Rujano did some incredible work and joins leader Pinotti at the Kasereck. Basso is '32 behind, Tiralongo 1'02, Anton-Contador-van den Broeck and Velits at 1'17 and Gesink at 2'25. How on earth can he make up over a minute in 7 kilometres?
The last 3km have an average ascent of about 6%.
Pinotti can hang on to Rujano in the short descend, but when the road starts to ascend again, he has to let the climber out of Venezuela go. With 2.5km to go, Rujano leads with '11, Basso at '43 and the group Antón, Contador, P. Velits and van den Broeck at 1'07. Gesink has closed some of the gap and is 1'51 behind.
The gap between Rujano and Pinotti stays small, but the Italian knows he won't get the stage win. 1km to go and '31 behind. Antón, Contador, Velits & van den Broeck follow at 1'19, Gesink at 1'30!
What an incredible climb by Rujano, I never tought, he could come back to Pinotti! He's even to tired to celebrate it.
Pinotti finishes in 2nd (1'13), while the rest even loose more in the last km! Contador is 3rd in 1'36 and wins some seconds. At 1'43 come Antón, Gesink (yep, a great comeback!) and van den Broeck.

Word from the DS: After looking at today's pictures, we decided not to protest against the Saxo team. We believe that the only way to handle this type of anti fairplay, is to completely destroy Contador in the next stages. We simply can't believe that you want to push an other rider next to the road, so he has to get off his bike in a climb???
Gesink showed he is very strong and is having very good legs. Tomorrow's stage with the Monte Crostis and Monte Zoncolan will suit him.

Stage 14 is the stage everyone with climbing stats under 75 fears. 210km from Lienz to the summit of the Monte Zoncolan. Before the Zoncolan, the peloton has to climb the Monte Crostis for the first time, and also the decent with a few non-paved kilometres.
A 12-man breakaway is formed, and together they get over the first 3 mountains:
- Passo di Monte Croce (5.8km, 5.1%) 1. Santambrogio (BMC), 2. Perget (ALM), 3. Koren (Liq).
- Passo di Sant'Antonio (4.8km, 5.3%): 1. Santambrogio, 2. Perget, 3. Albasini (HTC).
- Passo della Mauria (12.1km, 4.7%): 1. Santambrogio, 2. M. Kreder (Gar), 3. Koren.
When they reach the Intermediate sprint in Forni di Sopra, Rabo's Steven Kruijswijk has joined the group. The advantage to the peloton is 5 minutes, when Perget crosses the line first, followed by Kreder and Koren.
Next to climb is this beast: the Monte Crostis, 14km with an average gradient of 10.1%).
Kruijswijk sets a high pace, and only Santambrogio and Kreder can follow. The gap to the peloton is 4'24 with 50km to go.
In the chasing peloton, the 4 favourites have found each other. WIth 3km to climb, Gesink, Antón, Contador and Rujano are 3'30 behind.
Kruijswijk has dropped his companions and is the first on the summit of the Monte Crostis. Still 32km to go.
Gesink reaches the summit as 2nd, 2'18 back, together with Antón, Contador and Rujano. Vanendert follows at 2'57.
Vanendert rides fast and closes the gap to the group of the favourites. He takes the lead there, and the 5 of them come closer to Kruijswijk.
With 16km to go, just before the end of the descend, they catch Kruijswijk. One minute behind is a small group with Roche, Velits, Basso, Ruijgh, Intxausti, van den Broeck, Sastre, Pinotti and Sella.
Then the Monte Zoncolan. Probably Europe's toughest mountain to climb (fighting for this title with the Alto D'Angliru): 10.1km with an average gradient of 12%, and maximum gradients of over 20%!).
Vanendert still leads the group when the climb starts.
And immediately an attack by Igor Antón. Rujano and Contador react, Gesink follows his own pace and closes the gap.
7.5km to go and the 4 lead with over a minute to Vanendert and Kruijswijk.
Some of the spectators get grazy when the 4 riders pass them. It doesn't matter if they walk in front of them, they're completely crazy... 5km to go and almost 2 minutes to Vanendert and Kruijswijk.
3km to go and Antón tries again. He looks the strongest of the 4. Gesink continues to ride his own pace today. He feels that this climb is a little bit t steep for him and wants to minimize the damage.
Only 1km to go and Antón has a small gap to Gesink and Rujano. Contador starts to crack!
The 2nd stage win for Antón. He surely was the strongest today!
Gesink comes in as 2nd, 11 seconds behind Antón. Rujano is 3rd, and Contador looses 30 seconds. Then there is a gap from over 5 minutes to Intxausti. Vanendert collapses in the end and finishes as 12th at 6'09.

Word from the DS: What a tough stage.... Those 2 climbs are horrible. Gesink felt already when climbing the Crostis, that his legs weren't good enough for the win, so he tried to minimize the loss. The 4 up front were pretty equal, but in the end, Antón deserved the win. He was the only one that could attack. We loose only 19 seconds (with the bonus seconds) for the GC, and we can be satisfied with that. And now some big plate of pasta, some massages for the riders and a good night sleep before tomorrow's queen stage. Without Theo Bos, those mountains are one step too far for him.

Great stage from Antón,Gesink and Rujano...well done...now it becomes easier with only 4 riders fighting for GC...

@ baia: Thank you. It's we only have to pay attention to 3 riders, the others can even get some minutes without getting too dangerous. But first the next stage, with 4 tough climbs and one steep (6km, 10%) to the finish.

Great results for Gesink so far, he looks very strong, but Anton is very dangerous now. Good luck in last week

Stage 15 is the queen's stage of this Giro D'Italia. 229km long with 5 categorized climbs (1 2nd category, 3 1st catogory and the Cima Coppi, the Passo di Giau).
- Piancavallo (13.7km, 8.3%)
- Forcella Cibiana (10.2km, 7.0%)
- Passo di Giau (15.9km, 6.5%)
- Passo Fedaia (13.4km, 7.9%)
- Rifugio Gardeccia (6.2km, 10.0%)
A small 3-man group gets away and builts up a big, big, big lead. Giampaolo Cheula (Geox) is the first to be on top of the Pancavallo, in front of Bauke Mollema (Rabobank) and Alessandro Bisolti (Farnese Vini). The peloton is 4'34 back and takes it very easy.
But then there is a shock in the peloton and the cycling fans: the Maglia Rosa has crashed. Joost Posthuma stops and tries to get him back. Gesink looks like he isn't injured that much, but he visits the medical car with a sore hip!
But thanks to his teammates Posthuma, Kelderman and Dumoulin, he gets back in the peloton before the foot of the Forcella Cibiana.
Mollema is the first to pass the KOTM-line on top of the Forcella Cibiana, followd by Bisolti and Cheula. Chris Froome has attacked in the peloton and follows at 8'11.
Because of the crash of Gesink, th epace in the peloton has dropped, and they are 18'17 back to the leaders!
The 3rd climb of the day brings us to the Cima Coppi, the highest point in this Giro. The Passo di Giau has an altitude of 2236 metres.
Mollema and Bisolti reach the summit in that order, and nice bonus for the Dutchie! They've dropped Cheula, who follows at 6'45. In between is Chris Froome at 2'16.
De Greef has done a great job in the ascend of the Giau and the peloton is 5 minutes closer: 13'18
The penultimate climb is the Passo Fedaia, not as high as the Giau and a little shorter, but steeper!
With 9km of climbing to go, 37km from the finish, Bisolti decides that he's faster than Mollema and rides away. The peloton is stil 12'58 back.
Then the games has started in the peloton. Luis Leon Sanchez (Rabobank) and 5th-placed in the GC Nicholas Roche are the first riders to attack.
With 4km of climbing to go, the favourites for the GC attack. Of course it's Androni's José Rujano. He's followed by Alberto Contador. Robert Gesink can't follow at this moment, his hip is too painful. He decides to continue riding in his own pace and wants to save some energy for the last climb.
Sky's Chris Froome has past Mollema, and joined Bisolti. He's the first on the summit of the Fedaia.
Rujano and Contador follow at 4'39.
The group Gesink (Gesink, Antón, Basso, Velits, Roche and Sanchez) follow at 5'58.
One climb to go, but one steep one! The ascend to the Rifugio Gardeccia is only 6km long, but has an average gradient of 10.0%, with maximum 16%!!.
In the ascend of the Fedaia, Rujano and Contador have almost closed the gap to Bisloti and Froome. They're only 30 seconds back at the foot of the Gardeccia. Peter Velits follows at 1'11 and the group Gesink at 2'00.
Already after 600metres, Rujano and Contador have passed Bisolti and Froome.
Gesink starts to feel better every single metre and he sets up a very high pace in the chasing group. One very important victim is GC's number 2 Igor Antón. The Spanish rider can't follow anymore. Was yesterday's effort at the Zoncolan too much??
4km to go and it's only one man in the lead! Rujano rides away from Contador. Gesink has started to cut down the gap and is at 1'08.
One short less steep part at 2.5km before the finish. Rujano leads with '37 to Contador and 1'28 to Gesink. Can Gesink close down the gap in the last steep part?
He has closed the gap to Contador. With 1km to go, Rujano leads by '56 to Gesink and Contador. Antón is already 3'23 back.
The 2nd stage win for the small climber out of Venezuela! He's surely the best climber in this Giro D'Italia!
Gesink has done a great job and finishes 2nd at '47. He has climb the Gardeccia as the fastest rider, even 43 seconds than Rujano!
Contador has collapsed in the last part, finishing at 1'23.
Igor Antón has lost the Giro today. He finishes in 7th (even behind Velits, Roche and Sanchez) at 4'03.
Results:
(I forgot to export the results).
21 riders finish outside the timelimit, among them Tyer Farrar, Stefan Denifl (Leopard), Mauro Finetto (Liquigas), Vicente Reynes & Seb. Lang (Omega Pharma) and Monster Energy's Tom Dumoulin.
GC: Gesink remains in the pink. Rujano at 1'41, Contador at 3'12 and Antón at 4'44.
Points:
KOTM:
Teams:
World's best climber (at least in the Giro):
Word from the DS: Oh my, what a shock when Gesink crashed. Luckily he could continue. Although he felt pretty messed up, he recovered in the rest of the stage. His decision not to react at Rujano's attack, was the right one. Tomorrow he can rest, but still a tough week to go, although I think there are only 3 contenders left for the GC: Gesink, Rujano and Contador.

During the restday in the Giro, Monster Energy - Ford's eyes were fixed at Berlin. 8 of our riders raced the Pro Race Berlin, a one day race of almost 200km. Normally, the race will turn out in a mass sprint, but because of some dreadful weather, a breakaway might have a change.
The first 120km (!) are very nervous. A lot of breakaways including many Monster Energy-riders were caught every single time. Then a group of 10 get away and they get an advantage of 3 minutes. In this group is Romain Zingle from Monster Energy - Ford.
With 8km to go 2 riders escape from the group: CCC's Lukasz Bodnar and Voralberg's Raivis Belohvisciks. The peloton is still 1'13 back.
1200 metres to go and Bodnar starts to sprint. With the peloton 27 back, this one goes to the breakaway!
And it's the Latvian Belohvosciks who takes the win, his first of the season! The peloton finishes in the same time, with Ligthart in 5th place.

The winner:
Word from the DS: Ligthart did a great job, but he was actually a leadout for Theo Bos. Bos got boxed in with 3km to go, and spend to much energy to go to the front again. Anyway, we had no chance for the win, the 2 breakaways did a great job. But our expectations were low, with so many riders with low fitness.

@ Spilak23 abd Schleck96: Thanks for your support! Think you're gonna love the report of the mountain timetrial up the Nevagal!
Meanwhile, great news from the ASO!!!

Stage 16: Time trial time! 12.7km from Belluno to Nevegal. The last 7.3km go up with an average gradient of 8.2%, and a maximum of 14%. And because of that, people call this a time trial for climbers!
Movistar's Branislau Samoilau has set the best time so far in 29'32. Rob Ruijgh rides a decent TT, finishing in 30th place in 29'51.
After a new best time is set by Danilo di Luca, 29 seconds faster than the Belarussian, Jelle Vanendert opens the top 10 of the GC. Not bad, not good. 27th in 29'47, 2nd best Monster Energy-rider in the end.
Then a new best time for Peter Velits. Last year's number 3 in the Vuelta finishes in 28'43, 20 seconds faster than Di Luca.
Irish Nicholas Roche lost too much time while staring at the grazing cows. When his AG2R-Directeur Sportif told him to go on, he finished in 10th place, losing 1'07 to the winner of the stage.
Igor Antón is a great climber, but a lousy time-trialer. But thanks to the ascending kilometres, he is 10 seconds faster than Roche (think he doesn't like cows!). 5th in the end at '57.
Then the top 3 has started. At the checkpoint at the foot of the climb, Alberto Contador has the fastest split time with 7'50. Velits is '3 behind, Marco Pinotti '4 and Rujano '11. And Gesink.......... in 112th place at '52. But when Gesink sees the cows after the checkpoint, he gets scared of them and rides like hell up the mountain.
Alberto Contador is the biggest favourite to win this stage. He crushes the time of Velits with 30 seconds! 28'13. Can someone prevent Berti from winning the TT?
José Rujano has proven to be a better climber in this Giro than Contador, and he does it again! He is 1 second faster in the climbing part, but because of loosing 11 seconds in the flat part, he ends the time trial 10 seconds behind Contador.
Then the waiting starts for the Maglia Rosa. He was '52 back at the foot of the hill. That's a big gap, but Gesink has proven he can ride up a mountain with an incredible speed. Sooner then expected, he comes around the last corner. He's gonna break the best time!!!!! Yes, 28'05! 8 seconds faster than Contador and 18 than Rujano. What a great ride by the Condor from Varsseveld!

Word from the DS: We're excited to get our second stage win. Things look better for the GC: 1'59 to Rujano and 3'20 to Contador. But we must be careful, especially in the stages to Tirano and Sestriere.

Haven't commented at all and feel a bit bad for not doing it when you're doing such a great job with the story.
Very good Giro so far with Gesink. Hopefully he can stay in pink all the way to Milano.
