Time to shine Elosegui! Let's see how much those secondary stats play a difference over three weeks. Can't wait to see how this unfolds!

Rochas should not be considered a GC contender, or we're screwed, though the TTT should solve that soon enough.
Indeed, Rochas, Lafay and even Rodriguez for the breaks, Darbynian, maybe for the sprints, the field isn't too tough, and Politt for the ITT if the climbing isn't too much. Lafay is one of the best puncheurs here, so he has his chances on the hilly stages too I think. We'll see soon enough whether sending him here was a good call.

Thanks for the preview and the upcoming reports, good luck everybody.

We would need to score 7-800 points here to use it as a title contender race, which we clearly won’t. Anything above 250 points would be a great result IMO.

250? The 6th best scoring team scored 250 last year and the field was deeper (I would say that any of the top 5 last year would be favorite this year).

That said 700 seems a stretch as well. Having a top GC guy can hurt a lot in depth scoring. So not sure teams is a shoo in and the depth might not be as strong as on paper. I think Sauber might be favorites for the teams given they will probably have more freedom.

A long aside -
Spoiler
This is a pet peeve of mine and I think it is one of the reasons we get weird results in GTs - because people don't send good teams for strong GC guys because you score more points going for depth than working for a leader. Last year's ToA is an example - on paper we had a similar team to Zwift with a better leader. And McNulty outscored Powless by 100 points but because our team worked we did much worse both in the teams and the depth GC and in total they pretty much matched us (ignoring sprinters). I would have been better off sending my super domestiques to score in other races and hoping someone else did the chasing. I have an idea on this which I will take up in a more appropriate thread.

I might have too low ambitions, but I could see us scoring pretty low here, despite having a GC ambition.

Congrats on the Haller win from the gun! Edmondson got blocked a bit there, but 7th is OK.

Nice to get started!

Thanks for the preview and the first report.

Congrats to Haller and the victory. I am not part of this race but of course i follow it. And i was interested how the "local" team will do here, I mean the one from the middle east, Zain-Omantel. And i think there is an error somewhere, either the Preview is wrong or the result. I was looking for how their sprinter did on a stage like this, Altanzul, but it seems he isnt in the race? Instead Bartl is. So was the preview wrong or did they change riders last minute? I am just curious not that it matters to me Cool

You're right. Just double checked the startlist file, and Altanzul isn't participating. The preview is wrong. Sorry for that!

And we are off and racing! We are more than willing to fast forward through all the flat stages... Wink

What a way to get the race started! Haller now is the exclusive record stage winner with 13 wins, leaving Pellizotti behind! The latter only needed a single participation for his 12 wins, though ^^
Also, Haller now has a stage win in his 5th consecutive ToA participation - obviously a record, too. And it's his 6th ToA where he gets at least a win. He already held both records previously, and is just extending them now - and with the upcoming reduction, I'm really not sure anyone will ever be able to match any of these numbers...

Congrats to McCormick in any case, what a start for Ulrich's boys!

Marco Haller is built different when it comes to the ToA!

Marco Haller has still got it!

Congrats UU.

I wonder what fool let Haller go? Smile

If we want a strong GC result here then we are going to need to rely on Misbah making up time in the TT's but I don't think they are long enough to help him make up time he will lose elsewhere.

He should still be on track for a top 10 but I think hopes of a top 5 or higher are probably unrealistic unless he gets a lucky breakaway or things are still very tight going into the flat TT

Happy with 9th. Mudgway shown he can sprint for himself which is excellent as he doesn't really have much support. So a good start. Also good to see all the other guys losing no time (as expected)

Congrats to Haller on the win! Thanks for another great report!

Well that can't have gone much better. Haller's first victory for the team, his TOA record setter and only our second stage win in the ToA. Nice it was on the same day that Walscheid put in a good ride for Kraftwerk. Thanks for the congrats.

Also good we didn't try and do a lead out with any of our climbers.

Thanks to KB for the report. Overcoming the "Haller doesn't look strong" note added to the thrill of victory.

Well done Ulrich!

An active start for Glanbia on both stage and happy to see us racking up (small) points, they all count!

Crowley in Polka Dots will be a nice sight

Great victory by McCormick on stage 1, nice stats about Haller by Fab.

Special tactics by the Glanbia breakaway riders then this stage, with a great finish from Lafay for Bordeaux. Nice to see Houle doing that well as well, gives hope for a stage win of him later in the race perhaps.

Not upset with stage 2. Davila shouldn’t really do much until week 2 to be honest. With I think only 1 mountain stage in week 1 and hill stages ge should be able to stick with the front so good start for us.

Congrats to the winners and thanks for the report Smile

SotD
Not too shabby here, with the entire team attentive at the front.

Sosa already picking up bonus second isn’t ideal for the GC, but to be expected obviously.
