[CT] SEE Turtles '23 | Goals Recap [Final Post of 2023]
Imladrik
A nice TTT setup, and somme dangerous mountain guys (Alarcon and Squire), will be interesting to see how they fare. Hamza is a nice catch to, in a difficult TT market.
Solid talents also!

Duchesne could do really well with his massive ACC Smile

Otherwise lacking a few more leaders. Maybe your solid TTT can bring some more out of the likes of Alarcon and Squire.

Squire and Duchesne are going to be solid while Tivani is known to spring a surprise or two Smile

Well done for your first season, you can be proud Smile
Great depth in most departments and I like your TTT setup to support Squire and Alarcon in the stage races. Duchesne was also on my radar, I'm happy to see him land on your team.

Good luck!

Indeed - It's not a bad start to this game! A little bit to the old side, but that doesn't matter this season. You have solid representation everywhere so it will be a fun season I think.

I would probably reconsider training Kelly though, regardless of how much I like his statcombo. I don't think it's worthwhile Smile

National Champions Jerseys

The SEE Turtles will proudly display the shell of our namesake throughout the year, but are even prouder to display the national colors of 4 countries!

Joshua Kelly represents Barbados as their road national champion! While Kelly will show up in a number of TT's throughout the season, he will proudly represent his country while supporting our GC leaders.

i.imgur.com/iHWCNxT.png

Jorge Abreu represents Venezuela as their time trial champion. Abreu is the SEE Turtles only non-island national champion and should be appearing consistently in this jersey to fight for low level GC results!

i.imgur.com/GQ6Nqdq.png

Kashyapa Siriwardena will proudly wear the colors of Sri Lanka in the road race and time trial for this upcoming season. A strong domestique in the moments, Sri Lanka will be proud to see him in such a distinctive jersey this season.

i.imgur.com/7oThTY7.png

Ahmad Arissol will also don his national jersey in the road race and time trial as the dual national champion of the Seychelles. He hopes to showcase this jersey on the attack when he gets the chance!

C2 Clasico San JoseWin
C2 Tour of San LuisTop 5

Our Ecuadorian contingent enters the MG with measured expectations in our first season. While we believe we've assembled depth to challenge for a top spot in the division, a more sensible Top 10 goal seemed most appropriate when we had 0 riders. We hope to fight for stage and GC wins along the way, but our real goal is to make sure no race comes away with no result and we think we've planned well for that. Likely better than our planning for our 4 specific race goals here. In retrospect, a Monterrey TTT would've looked fantastic on this list.

Bryan Raul Obando6267676563676851606274646622

We hoped that choosing a longer, hilly classic would provide our team with stronger planning options as we entered with no riders. Our manager remembered the hilly focus clearly, but seemed to forget about this classic being 212km and the importance of stronger energy stats to make this possible. It's unlikely we can be successful here, but having 4 strong assets in the final may allow for a strong result nonetheless. Hopefully Obando, Abreu, or Siriwardena feel comfortable joining the breakaway and allowing our leaders to sit protected in the peloton and not feel compelled to work most of the race.

We gambled with our win goal here hoping that Tachira would split the most competitive men in the division; however it appears San Jose has attracted more than its Venezuelan counterpart.

Our puncheur squad returners again for Tour of San Luis with Trillini and Duchesne teaming up for the punchy hill top finishes. We wanted to hedge our bets though bringing Oka to try to dominate the prologue in an attempt to gain enough of a lead before the hills, while Kelly may even be able to surprise and survive the climbs. Oka may even sprint for bonus seconds on the second and fourth stages. Our Ecuadorian youngsters will provide support and head for the breakaways if we fall behind early on. Reguigui will serve as a last resort should the final stage lean more towards the best climbers as he should also maintain a strong enough position after the TT.

We hope that many of our strongest competitors will have chosen to attend Tour of America and leave San Luis a bit more open.

Our "easiest goal" is also one of the most competitive as we've seen Izola appear on many PCT calendars and a few other CT goal posts (if we're not just becoming paranoid). Still, we're confident that our 3 pronged puncheur trident of Trillini, Duchesne and Betancourt will make sure they are well represented however the group splits toward the finale. Tivani also appears for their first goal race here just in case the hills don't divide the group enough and it comes down to a sprint. Obando is here yet again praying he can make the breakaway.

Our C1 goal is finds us in the Basque Country in our penultimate race of the season. It is no surprise to see another hilly race on our schedule nor should anyone be surprised to see the puncheur trio showcasing themselves here, too. A Top 5 result feels a bit ambitious, but again, we hope to play upon group dynamics to ensure someone is always joining important moves. With only decent finishes Tivani may also play a factor if he can get over the climbs on stages 3 and 4 or at least find success in what we hope is a diminished sprint field.

Loving the shirts as well!

Goals are always tricky, definitely when you don't have any riders. Izola and San Luis seem to be the most realistic ones, although I'm not sure how good the competition exactly is. Top 10 in team standings is hopefully realistic as well, but of course that'll always depend on a bit of luck and the rest of your race planning. I hope it works out for you!

I'll see you at San Jose, which not a specific Goal for me is obviously a key race to us both. Same for San Luis Pfft And then Izola we do share it as a Goal! yeah, i feel we're gonna be meeting a lot this year (also in the Basque, and it was on my list of C1 Goal options).

Even as our time trail leader, Hamza will be a work horse for us this year. He rides his maximum race days, - 72 - and maximizes those days by only visiting 1-day races for the two TTTs on our calendar. When not leading our TTT squads, Hamza should be found on the front of the peloton as our strongest rider on the flat. We're cautiously optimistic that Hamza will come away with at least one win this season in a prologue or by leading our team to victory in Monterrey.

It is absolutely no shock that Oka covers much of the same schedule as Hamza. Oka hopes to contribute to a strong TTT in both solo races and then aim for a prologue win along the way. Oka will also serve us as a sprint challenger on the flat stages of the many hilly stage races on our calendar. With some potentially diminished fields, Oka may grab some good results there as well. Oka's #1 must be The Tour of San Luis with hopes he can make it over the hills and hold onto a strong prologue GC result.

Tivani represents our best sprint hope throughout the season, although he's still probably an outsider for top results most of the time. Having underwent a minor hills training this off-season, he hopes to make it over any minor climbs that could drop the true fast men. Izola and Bizikleta will be goal races in support of team goals, but Tivani truly hopes to surprise in the Tour of America with a few strong results. He begged and begged for this opportunity to race in his home country of Argentina and we simply could not deny him. Let's hope he can deliver at the C2 level at least.

I love Oka's skill combination, hopefully he is just good enough in both disciplines to get the job done.

Tivani rode the ToA with McCormick in 2021, I am afraid it wasn't a success. Hopefully the inspiration of riding on his home roads will make the difference.

Good luck with the goals, stacking the hill riders can definitely work, I think particularly where they are all strong but no one is a clear leader.

I really like your trio of puncheurs, especially when considered in combination with Tivani. It seems like a ladder exchanging MT (Betancourt) for SP (Trillini). I think Betancourt will be the weakest and that Trillini might produce some surprises (à la Luchshenko). I think GP Izola will be your strongest goal race.

@Ulrich: I also worry just a tad that Oka will be just below the level needed as both a TTer and sprinter to make the real difference. Obviously he can play a huge factor in prologues but we'll be reliant on good RDC across the entire schedule or we're in deep trouble.

@liefwarrior Glad you like the trio as I know it is risky to place them together. Especially for the goal races, having them together looked to provide the flexibility needed. I definitely see each of them having the roles you describe with Duchense as the central hope in all cases.

@TheManxMissile I'm not surprised we're sharing the same major races but I hope I can avoid Mayer and Lagane at least a couple times. At least if we find ourselves together, maybe we can find simultaneous success for the region.

@Nemolito goal strategy will definitely differ next year, but I can sleep happy thinking that 1/5 is more likely than 0/5 although I'm sure that's jinxing myself

@redordead thankfully they get to practice being together early and often. Maybe they'll at least figure out teamwork by season's end

Betancourt is the only member of our puncheur trio to head to Tour of America where he should have freedom to attack on a hilly stage or two. Hopefully his lack of GC ambitions there provide the options we're looking for while also providing some assistance our better climbers. The lack of energy stats makes Betancourt a risky solo leader anywhere, so he will team up with others to provide competitive teams as opposed to taking the team on his back... I mean, shell.

Duchesne should be our strongest rider across the season, although we know he will face stiff competition almost everywhere he does. We'll certainly be relying upon him most heavily in our season goals, but Duchesne will want success in the final race of the season Zuri Metzgete and all other one-day races on the calendar. Duchesne may also be able to make a splash at our solo HC race Tour of Pologne. 4 hilly stages should offer up ample opportunity to earn points at the higher level. He may not be our top point scorer on the season if TTT strategy works out well for our mountain GC men, but we have the most faith of any rider in Duchesne.

Trillini was not quite as lucky as his countrymate as Trillini is forced to take the alternative schedule, missing opportunities in a home grand tour. Still, the veteran is excited to represent the team in a number of 1-day races. Outside the team's major goals Trillini sees an opportunity on our first race day of the season at Gisborne GP. Hopefully the length of the race combined with the flattening finish might just allow him to reach the top of the final climb with a reduced group. Otherwise, Trillini should be a contender throughout the season, but mostly challenging for outside placings.
