Well, wouldn't be my first choice for AKA to have a down race, but it is what it is. He's been woefully out of position despite having a much stronger team around him than usual. Then with the sprint coming to a standstill close to the finish, he had no shot of making up ground. He needs fast lead ins in order to maximize his flat and resistance and minimize his acceleration deficit, and this clearly wasn't the sprint for that (although a low ACC sprinter won, so who knows).
We don't have any hopes for the hilly stage except that it's unselective.

Same story as yesterday. Guess tomorrow's hilly stage will tell us whether it was worth not sprinting at all.
Congratulations to Polar and thanks for the report, Abhi

Urianstad still holding on to that fabolous top 10-placement, but I guess the fun will be over very soon |

Good to see the lad deciding their role in this race is make-up numbers in the Top20 on Stages. If Aberasturi had hopes of a CT contract they are fading faster and fast.

Wow, that was unexpected - the TT guys behaving like the actual GC riders they are here. Kinda neat I think, maybe unfortunate for some of the pure puncheurs, although Edmonson, Prevar and Eiking at least were up there, who arguably were the three top favorites.
For us, it turned out great - Coppel, Cosnefroy and Lammertink should have the podium fairly secure, but Fiedler will be right in the mix for the spots behind them. Durbridge should be too strong, but on a good day, our man is right there with the likes of Viviani, Viennet or Oliveira. Top 10 is the minimum now, if I estimate the competition correctly. And Rosskopf is in play for a Top 15 GC spot as well. Hopefully, Perera can continue where he started tomorrow, and if our guys have a good day in the time trial, we could be looking at a surprisingly successful race.
Thanks for the very enjoyable reports Abhi and congrats LLS, what a nice win!

Well, I can’t say I expected that!
What a powerful statement of a stage win from Cosnefroy! A very impressive ride from him and Thomas in the next group on the road too.
Stay out of any trouble tomorrow!
Thanks Abhi and appreciate the congrats cunego

Ack. Sterobo got caught out in that second group at exactly the wrong time. Looked like they were coming back at the end, but it was too late since we were going straight into the final uphill then with a lot of speed, which worked against his skills.
Wouldn't have been too bad to finish in the second group, except so many of the other pure time trialists managed to stay in front despite the climbing. So that puts us out of the GC effectively.
Pretty disappointing performance in our home race. More disappointing still is that this comes as part of a string of poor results that seem destined to see us drop out of the promotion hunt. It was always a pipe dream, but it seemed real for a while.
Congrats LLS!

Wow! Super impressive stage by Lammertink. Got optimistic when he was in the first group when it split, together with Ballerini. Then seeing him attack and be the initiator took it to the next level, and then even seeing him take the sprint from the front of that elite group I'll argue he was the strongest today, and great to see him get rewarded as one of few riders on s.t. That should give us a great chance at a podium overall here, which will be huge.
Thank you for the report, and congratulations on the win, LLS! |

Spectacular! 2nd, 3rd and now this win and the points classification - Perera just turned his entire season into a success in one single race! I was already writing off the stage when I didn't see him in the first sprint screenshots but then first his shoes and then the rest of him started showing up This is the type of racing I was hoping for all along, I just didn't expect him to reach this level. And I'm glad he still has some support from his former team
Now let's finish this strongly in the time trial!

Congratulations on the win, cunego!
We definitely got lucky there as Lammertink kept his GC position and GC hopes despite not being part of the 21 riders front group split in the sprint.
Fingers crossed for the final TT, then! It all comes down to that one. Hopefully Lammertink gets a race day where he can compete. |

Congrats cunego! Heartbreak for Aramco, but I can't deny that it's always pretty amusing to see someone get Zabel'd.
Much better from AKA. Went a bit too early for this sprint engine, but a podium helps ensure he'll at least score a little here.
Unless Sterobo has some heroics in store, that should pretty much be our race done.

Oh no
I’m happy with 2nd but definitely a missed opportunity for a stage win there for Abdul Halil.
Missed chance for Cosnefroy to extend the GC lead as well but at least no one gained time on him.
It’s all on the final stage now. A good form day could mean a GC win while a bad day could mean a drastic drop out of the podium spots. We will hope for the best from Cosnefroy!

Whelp, that's arguably AC's worst TT of the year (as there's no second leg). Pretty awful race here, our season is rapidly (but entirely predictably) dropping of a cliff.
From here i'm all about these crap results to get the best renewal rates on the likes of AC.

Horrendous tactics by Los Pollos, but at least Zmorka winning the stage and finishing fourth in GC ends the Danish week with an okay feeling. Congratulations on the win to ember, and also congratulations on a strong race to Bralirwa!
Thanks for the reports Abhi

Thank you for the report, Abhi. That was obviously a nervous read
Looks like Lammertink had the least bad day among the top GC riders pre-stage. He did enough to secure the overall, which is a huge result for him and the team
Must admit I'm surprised to conclude the race with the GC win, especially as that isn't really down to his TT performance, but his brilliant performance on the hilly stage 3. A very surprising way for him to claim the GC!
Thank you, Nemolito, and congratulations to you too on the stage! |
