Wippert is kind of a lose cannon here at this race so I don't really mind what happens in the sprints against a field like this with no lead out. A top 10 from him will be a successful outing.
Edmondson on the other hand, great work staying out of trouble and in the peloton to finish without time lost. He should play a factor in the hilly stages as he has done in the past years so I am excited to see him on show and hoping for another top 10 in GC.

Good to have Norman up front and take bonus seconds! Hopefully they'll count for something when the race ends. Slightly disappointed to see him miss out on the KoM big points, but hopefully his 8 points makes him interested in joining breakaways on the coming stages too.
Ballerini loosing time to the bunch wasn't planned, my minor hopes for an anonymous and solid GC race from him are gone.
Manninen is a class act. Congratulations on the win, Nemolito. Great to get that as early as possible |

Manninen back to greatness right away. No offseason fog for him.
I'll take the 8th place from AKA. He looked away behind and out of it most of the way, so good enough to score a point I guess. Bonus seconds don't matter much since he can't survive the hills.

Hum... Good thing is, Reinhardt was in the mix again. So I'll take that as a confirmation that PCM should consider him to be a contender even in PCT.
Bad thing was on one hand that he didn't get any help. Everyone bar Bissegger (great job!) in the second group is unacceptable!
Plus, he didn't ride very smart. With 2km to go, he's in between the long train and the Podium Ambition train. With 1km to go, he's two bike lengths behind Howard, definitely not benefitting from full slipstream effect. Those facts paired with low Res definitely didn't do him any good - but I'm still convinced that he can do well with better tactics and better timing!
Very happy with Bissegger's performance, though! Couldn't quite keep up with Hansen for the intermediate sprints, but taking the sole KoM of the stage was way more important anyway! Looking forward to see him in that jersey - hopefully on the attack again
Thièry and Lienhard on the other hand were once again absolutely disappointing. There's really no excuse for missing out on that split - and now they don't have any more excuses for not attacking on the hillier stages! With even the small GC hopes we once had gone, let's go all-in for stage results and jerseys!
Congrats to Nemo - feels like we're the only promoting team without a good sprint result yet
And thanks for the report, roturn, I found that sprint preparation very well documented and interesting!

I'd really like to see us in the breakaway given that we don't have a sprinter. I was hoping Le Gac and Poljanec would be two riders that could provide some depth, but both dropping is not good. Can only hope they go in breakaways now, at least Gaudu finished safely.
Manninen on his way to another strong season.

And that's Bonifazio back to normal again. But with De Plus avoiding silly time loss, I'm ok with the result.
Congrats Nemolito, seems like Manninen just can't stop winning.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Wish I'd avoided sprints altogether kinda. Lots of punchuers here, surprising to me, with the chance that a punchy sprinter just hangs on and takes the GC win here, but I guess most teams have better hill depth and can afford to bring a backup leader to a one day race instead.
Manninen with his RES should be one of the best sprinters in PCT this year, I'm not surprised by the success this early on.

That's what I love to see
Exactly the wheel I hoped he would follow, and after Ewan had a good lead-out and sprint I'm happy that Manninen was the only one able to beat him. Not only because it means a win in the first race of the season for us, but also to see Ewan kind of rewarded for having a lead-out.
Don't know how the game will treat the yellow jersey tomorrow, so don't have my hopes too high.
Also interesting to see the rest of the team far behind Matti. Second best Pollo was Mutsumine in 111th at 1'40, whereas five of the eight Pollos were around the last ten riders
But yeah, very happy with this win of course. Thank you for the great sprint report!

Good 5th from TVA. Will take that and Teuns not losing time as a good start. Need to keep the consistency and we should be doing fine.
Congrats on the win Nemo Thanks for the report roturn!

Jesus Christ we couldn’t have gotten it more wrong. Looks like us and Podium Ambition are gonna need to go back to the drawing board regarding trains, what an absolute disaster. Howard looked to have picked a good wheel and then lost it and used up too much energy. Could have held on to the lead if it weren’t for his energy wasting.
Congrats Nemo, 2 from 2 has got to be a good feeling.
Thanks for the report

I'm starting to wonder if Manninen can actually score better than last year, especially since a few of the best sprinters went to the PT.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Sprints looking worryingly random when it comes to everyone behind Manninen. Ewan not even in the Top 10 as the favourite here seems a little odd.
Interesting to follow as a team with a big sprinter as I’m feeling he could be competitive!

Oof, exposing the AI as very rigid and pre-set there. Ewan ended up well placed to stay behind a few other good wheels and launch late. But he's the favourite so must sprint early because that's what the lead-out does. And thus everyone comes around him, not even slightly surprised.
Proving why Manninen at 400k from FA was a great deal, and why he'll be 800k at renewals time. The Flying Finn is boss!
(y'all need to watch as he becomes my primary argument for a world beating Caribbean rider come renewals )
