Strong result on the opening stage from Tewelde and Richardson in the KOM lead but a rather disappointing 2nd stage. Hopefully we see more of the first stage effort from the team in the stages to come.

Loved to see my team try and make a quite decent train with the youngsters, too bad Guillén isn't known for his km long sprints Pfft Nice to see Gonzales in the picture for the first time this season, a shame he couldn't pick up some seconds for the U25. Congratulations on the win, sammy!

Sigh... Those flat stage races are definitely broken; I guess we've never seen a GC leader defend his jersey even for a single day this year...

Still two stages to strike back, but gaining no bonus seconds at all was the absolute worst case scenario for that one. But given the yellow jersey, it had to be expected with the current engine. I'm just wondering why we actually participated in the chase when we didn't even try to join the sprint later on.

Congrats to sammy, hope you won't be punished for doing well on stage 4 now... And thanks for the report, which I didn't enjoy for obvious reasons, but was still well-written.

After seeing this and reading back through older reports, I'm really starting to buy into Ulrich's theory that the game puts riders and teams into certain limiting boxes that prevent them from acting logically. i.e. AKA acting more like a rouleur in Denmark. It can be from stats or circumstance.

I think a similar thing might be happening with the leader's jersey in sprint races. Reinhardt won the previous stage and the game was properly recognizing him as a top sprinter. But once he took the lead, his role as the GC leader superceded his role as a sprinter. He now acts like a stage racer GC guy on a flat stage, in jersey protect mode. His team works, keeps him in good position, and then lets "the sprinters" battle it out. Of course, PCM 18 is incapable of understanding that this is a sprint race and that sprinting is the job of a GC leader. So it leads to painfully stupid results. As with AKA in Denmark, Reinhardt still sprints with the pack at the end and is faster than most, so he'll end up 10th-20th, but he won't properly position himself for more.

I could be totally off, but the more I see, the more I'm convinced. More and more, it seems like Cyanide's attempt to create more nuanced and realistic flat stages in this game engine ended up fundamentally breaking them instead.

Hadn't thought of that aspect but that explanation of the yellow jersey curse would make sense. In Cyanide's defense sprint only GC races are not that prevalent in reality so perhaps less of a concern for them although it would also be a problem in a tour with multiple sprints in the first few stages. Glad Keough is keeping himself near the front but not in yellow then. The last stage is the one to win.

Eeeey, Kip strikes again.
That has to be the biggest upset of the year. That Kip clinches his second win of the season! Pfft

Should I be upset by another obviously wrong decision by the officials? Had it been the last stage, yes. But now, I'm actually not - 2nd was exactly the result I was hoping for for today. This gets us as close as possible to the leader, but not in the lead. The main threat now should be Keough, if Lobato doesn't suddenly find a way to overcome that curse...

What is a bit stupid however is the rest of the team doing absolutely nothing. I mean, even Bralirwa had guys in the breakaway sometimes, and they will get a great team result. We only have Reinhardt, so we definitely need him to deliver - what he clearly did so far. And I guess we should still have a shot at the team standings as well, as those are probably wrong in the results thread.

Congrats to hillis for your second win of the race (how much did you pay to the judges to virtually move the line, actually?), and thanks for the report!

Oh boy, I was so excited to see Osorio in the break and collect a lot of bonus seconds to get a good U25 position Grin Then I saw he got dropped and it was all for nothing Pfft

Decent sprint by Guillén for his best result of the race so far, hope he has one more good sprint in him to finish inside the top-10 of the GC.

Congratulations to Kip and Gjensidige (again!), and thanks for the report Smile

I guess Lobato maintaining the jersey is meant to be a good thing, but it has me worried for the final stage now, hopefully he can limit the damage and still finish on the GC podium as he was crazy consistent before taking the jersey and should have got one with how he was riding.

Ulrich Ulriksen
Very solid stuff from Keough, he gets me worried by not appearing until the last shot but his relatively high flat and res get him late ground. He has clearly been studying his illustrious predecessor, he just isn't as fast.

If we get lucky and get good positioning in the last stage we have a shot at the GC win but I am happy as long as we stay in the top 10.

Thanks for the reports and congrats to Hillis.

In the last stages Guillén has always outperformed his previous result by one place. Too bad the race didn't last like three more days Pfft

Hoped for someone in the break, but can't have that luck every day. Good winner with Reinhardt here, Centovalli keeping the title push going Smile

Thank you for the consistent, clear and simply great reports, redordead! Looking forward to your next visit to the CT!

Said I would be happy with a top 10 GC so will stick to that and pretend the last stage didn't happen.

A deserved win for Fabianski. Reinhardt proved he is the top gun in the division.

Echo what Nemolito said on the reports.

Congrats to Fabianski. Deserved win for Reinhardt, even if it happened in a a quite strange fashion.

Wow, that was a completely sick sprint from Reinhardt! When he was even out of the picture with 1.3km to go, I was already started to get disappointed about another missed chance. Suddenly, he's in the mix with less than 1km to go, and already up front with 400m to the line. I thought that was too early, given his low-ish resistance - but no. He really put the hammer down today, without any visible team support (I think there was, as Mundle is just alongside Oss, right behind the first group of sprinters) - unbelievable win!

In the end, I guess with two stage wins, a 2nd place, an 8th place and a day off, he's a worthy winner - and it's our first ever GC win, which was one of our main goals of the season! He's having an incredible month anyway, with 3 stage wins, a GC win and two green jerseys out of two stage races - what does he have left to show in his home race in Berlin?

Thanks for the congrats, and thanks for the reports, red - you really managed to keep the suspense up on that final stage Pfft
And congrats to sammy on a great 2nd place, I definitely expected other riders to fight for the podium. And congrats to Carrefour and Bralirwa for some great depth scoring - honestly, it hurts to see that Cissé or Stocker - who absolutely match some of their riders - didn't make their way to at least one Top 10... But well, when you win the GC, you aren't allowed to complain anyway Pfft

Congrats Fabianski! No more complaining now Pfft

Strong result here from Tewelde which makes me fairly confident with the likelihood of dropping down to the CT next season. Tewelde isn’t the strongest sprinter in the team but he’s done well! Good to see my riders attacking and gaining time for some GC points too.
