I think the sand sector in the u23 and eites race will be different. Today it was a bit too much running I think, but it will be better tomorrow.
Two very entertaining races so far.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Gold for Van der Poel (after falling slightly behind due to a crash) and another silver for WVA. Toon Aerts hold Pidcock for third.

There was seemingly a gamble made in the Van der Poel camp - the tyres seemed just a little overpumped, in an effort to prevent punctures off the bridges. You could tell in the opening laps that the tyres were skittering all over the place, and the crash seemed to be at least influenced by the lessened grip. But as Van Aert had his own puncture, and Van der Poel seemed to get a better feel for the slips of the wheels as the laps went on, it seemed like the gamble was a perfect choice. It was a bit boring race-wise, but logistically the tyre tactics were interesting to me.

The best man won, but I do feel for van Aert getting his third silver medal in a few months. Especially because the race was decided by his puncture. I think it was even on the sand before the bridge, how do you even do that? But most of all, he didn't seem to have his usual fighting spirit after it.
Also a huge fail from the UCI finishing a lap too early, fortunately it didn't impact the result.

It was the first cyclocross WC race I watched from start to finish. I feel sorry for van Aert, but I think van der Poel was just the strongest.
