I'd be both shocked and surprised if there will be any GT's this year, even if they were to go ahead everybody would be treading on thin ice, with the constant worry and concern over more infections. At most I think we will get a couple of one day races as they are far easier to manage, with the police and event marshals being able to control crowd size along the route.
I'm more concerned over the future of cycling in 2021 and if there is no vaccine and more details known about the virus, we could have a another washout of a season as well. The rest of 2020 will be crucial to know how things will proceed for next season.
Given the fact that most countries are focused on a lockdown instead of focusing on 'herd immunity' I think future positive progress will be slow.
Running the TDF could prove to be a magnificant success and moral boost to show the world this thing is beaten.
More likely it could prove to be the biggest sporting disaster this century, tearing down the entire sport, ruining sponsors reputations, and spreading a virus around again.
Sport, not just the Tour but almost in general, needs to be very careful not to burn the consumer base it relies on. So many people, myself included, have lost their jobs. To layoff hundreds or thousands of workers and then put money into running a race, reputational suicide.
Let alone any disrespect to those that lost their lives trying to fight something you are then re-spreading.
Cancel the 2020 season and use this as a proper chance to restructure the sport in a far more sustainable manor!
