Haig's been in a gym obviously frequented by Bobridge
Not overly surprising to see the managers favourite receive some special attention, but being able to stretch to +2 really makes quite a difference to his prospects this season I reckon. Fingers crossed for you that this and the small re-arrangments in the transfer window finally secure you that coveted top 10 PT placing you've been chasing for so long!
(My eyes have repetitive strain injury from the contant flag repetition, even if on the very closest examination, some of them are from the south islanders ).
Great graphical presentation as has become the norm around these parts; you set the bar too high for most of us to have any chance of competing!
@Aquarius: Agree on both points! For Haig it's just a first step, I can already promise that. And yep.. my heart will bleed, when a race like Copenhagen comes up!
@Scorchio: Thanks, mate. Top-10 won't be easy this year, as we didn't really strengthen our squad (except of Haig's obvious training and Dion Smith maxing - though losing U25 points from Haig, Smith and Watson, too). But we will see.
Thanks for kind words on the graphics! You guys should take it as a challenge
@SotD: Definitely about time! Went for Morton until last season, but I guess he would be a frustrating 85 climber, so it's time for Haig to reach that level at some point in the future Happy to help Lecuisinier then
a short summary of the 2019 campaign will follow between the off-season and the start of the 2020 campaign. in short: missing the top-10 of the protour for yet another year kinda hurts, as we were close to our goal for at least three times in the past seasons. going into our 9th year as a team (formerly known as oz cycling), it may seem like the top-10 of the protour will be saved for our 10th year of existence.. may our riders prove us wrong in 2020 though....
the 2020 off-season is underway and with the first days already behind us, it's time to present the first changes in the team. at first, we take a look at two additions from the free agency market.
cameron meyer
cameron meyer may not be the premium addition, that many bennelong had hoped for, when the news of rohan dennis denying a new contract came out. he's obviously not the one, who should replace him on first hand anyway. but meyer will bring in some experience and of course some solid tt and especially prologue skills, that can be handy a few races. we don't expect him to be a factor for bunch sprint decisions, but whenever he gets the chance to ride without leigh howard, he may be lucky at some point and get a rare opportunity to show, that he still has some sprinting legs.

dylan kennett
former track cyclist left xero racing most recently and quickly became a main target for bennelong's management. the kiwi ain't the most outstanding sprinter, but he comes with a nice package of sprint and prologue skills, plus handling bumpy terrain in an at least solid way. opposing to cameron meyer, kennett could even be a leadout guy for our star-sprinter howard. wherever his development will go, this year on the premium protour level will surely push him further to where we think he can be in a year or two.

second update on our transfer season and it brings us a first-ever bennelong kiwi, who has been on the radar for quite a time and a "comeback" aussie, who's never really been gone..

cyrus monk
cyrus monk surprisingly did not extend his contract just a few weeks ago. rumours say, that this was due lack of communication inside bennelong's hq. anyway, the young gun never really left the team and just signed the expected new contract, which brings him slightly more money that he originally might have asked for. with tom david joining the team, it will be an important year for monk, who will further improve his skills for tough and challenging one day classics. welcome (back) home, cyrus.
cyrus monk | 24 years old | xp: 3.39 | wage: 65,000€
Really upset about how things went down with Kennett and us, would have liked to get him back but other wars got in the way sadly. Hope he does well for you, or at the very least does badly and gets put on the market next year
Personally I think it'd be a shame not to make him a new winnable sprinter for NZ once Bewley goes by going track-SP, he looks like a really nice FL-RES power guy that way but also is a fantastic leadout your way. I guess I forfeited my voting rights in his development though
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant." [PT] Xero Racing
@jandal: Was suprised to see Kennett on the market, but I guess Rohan Dennis did the same thing to me.. we already talked about his future (stat wise), so next year will be interesting again..
2020 | transfers #3 | kaden groves
biggest target secured..
kaden groves
kade groves decided to join bennelong - mitchelton and we're delighted to welcome one of the hottest prospects from down under. the 22 years old talent promises a bright future, as he combines sprint kills with an already solid setup for challenging and hilly profiles. groves has been the main target for bennelong (that also went behind another certain talent from australia), so it's definitely big news for the team. with our reliable top sprinter leigh howard reaching a "dangerous" age, it's good to see a promising young gun joining the squad and we will slowly develop this kid to become australia's next big thing. we're currently looking for a ct or pct team to help him take the first steps on professional level as a loanee. welcome where you belong to, kaden!
kaden groves | 22 years old | xp: 1.00 | wage: 185,000€
@all: thanks for the feedback, guys. with rohan dennis leaving us unexpectedly, transfer never went as planned, but i'm happy with groves and david in particular. we lost some good ones (smith..), too, but that was always a possible move..
2020 | transfers #4 | taylor gunman & miles scotson
the most recent deal has just been seeled a few minutes ago..
taylor gunman
taylor gunman, who has been with the team already twice (2015 and 2017), joins us from festina (though spending the last season with bnz cycling). the 29 years old kiwi is a (very) light version of rohan dennis, so despite not being amongst the premium riders on this level, he will add some depth to our support cast for jack bobridge (who needs to bounce back from a disastrous 2019 campaign). surely not the biggest deal late in the transfer season, but thanks to a small fee, it's quite good news for bennelong, that also had to give up/sell some other domestiques in the past two days (james oram, benjamin dyball - a list of all "goodbyes" will be provided later). welcome back, taylor!

miles scotson
miles scotson, the older brother of callum (who will ride in our colors this year, after spending the past seasons as a loanee), joined us in the deal, that brought gunman in. he may face a hard time to get many race days, but we are confident that he will help us in those (ttt) situations, where he will probably ride alongside his younger brother for a couple of times.
miles scotson | 26 years old | xp: 4.00 | wage: 50,000€
Well, I'm glad they ended up here! Didn't have much use for Scotson at BNZ but Gunman will be missed greatly!! Take good care of him as I'm sure you will!!
@Jakstar: I will take good care of Gunman.. Scotson unfortunately won't be of much use for me neither, so it will be a difficult for him. At least he's joining his brother here
2020 | transfers #5 | chris harper & the goodbye post
the roster for the upcoming season is complete, as we welcome the last rider on our team..
chris harper
chris harper is the final rider to join us in the protour team - with liam magennis (a 23 years old time trial specialist) being confirmed as the only stagiare for bennelong - mitchelton this year. harper went through the development system from the mitchelton - jayco amateur squad and we're glad to give him the well needed experience on the highest possible pro level this year. the 26 years old climber will add a little depth to our support cast for lachlan morton and jack haig, but we also hope to see him in breakaways from time to time.

goodbye post
in addition to rohan dennis and nick miller, who didn't sign a new contract with bennelong prior to the transfer season, they are several more riders leaving the team to spend the next year with other teams all around the world. we thank both riders for their time with us and both will be missed. especially dennis' departure meant a great loss to us.
for the other riders leaving us, we start with those talents, who will spend the next campaign as loanees with other teams: michael storer (philips), jai hindley (bakkafrost), alexander evans (mccormick pro cycling), lucas hamilton (dk - sva zalgiris) and kaden groves (guave's sunlight cycling). yet another important season for many of those young lads and we're already looking forward to how they will come back in a year from now. a special mention must go to kaden groves, who's riding as neo-pro and who has been provided by a "special training program", that will help to push his development as good as possible.
dion smith is the biggest loss behind rohan dennis. the kiwi though was always going to be a possible transfer out, as he was one of those riders, who attracted quite a lot of interest from other managers. he's joining king power in a swap deal, that sent tom david to us. calvin watson was demanding a transfer and he got it: the still young puncheur will join philips on a permanent deal and we wish him all the best for his stint on a lower level.
two of our manager's favorite also left the team because of some solid cash offers, that we got: james oram (guave's sunlight) should become an interesting rider for a newly founded ct team and benjamin dyball will be seen in generali's colors next year. he's been a solid support in stage races and he will be missed, too.
We're also excited to see how Groves will develop! We aim to "deliver" him back to you as strong as he can possibly get in one year as for James, we'll try to give him as good as a surrounding as he's been used to in the past anyway, good luck and thanks for the fruitful negotations!
Glad to take Storer on loan and help him develop, and we expect he's going to do a good job helping Kelderman all season. Watson will pretty much be his road captain all season, so the familiarity should help. Watson himself is likely to be the main man supporting Kelderman, but should also get a couple of decent leadership opportunities himself
