The doctors: Paris – Nice CLOSED
Tamijo
Just on a side note - in Tours would it be fun to be able to invest in two riders, so that you can target two different rider types for GC & Other.

(I woulds then split the list in GC / not GC riders)

Tamijo
Think it would be good to do the first (lets say) test run.

But I need reply from:
trekbmc - FreitasPCM - jandal7 and jaxika - if you want to "spice up" your rider or just go with the default skills.

After Strade Biance i will change he price of upgrades and also the Euro you can earn will be much higher, to make it more logic for the doctor to add additional skills

jandal7
Have to say I didn’t read the rules and now see I made a poor choice Pfft I’ll spend 25 on ACC, 5 on SP and 225 on HI
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

I have to say its all my fault, should have been much more clear about how the earnings system works, and as mentioned also realized to late that with higher price money and cheaper upgrades this will be for fun - to avoid riders getting way to strong can always adjust some riders pricing.

trekbmc
It makes logical sense to not spend money, but hey, I want to see GVA somewhat involved so I'll spend 75 to raise his hill stat two stages. Smile

"What done is, is one." - Benji Naesen

FreitasPCM
I’ll use 100 to raise Ballerini’s hill stat (if I haven’t miscalculated) and 20 for his sprint stat. Smile

You can only get +4 level on one skill so 175 (+4) is max on his Hill

All upgrades are in - and I will close the race to start reporting it, as mentioned mainly a test race as the points system will change dramatically before the next one.

Upgrade and riders cost updated on page 1.

It is a beautiful morning in Siena, we get an early breakaway of 6 riders.
KM 157: We get the first crash, none of the favorites involved and none of our focus riders either, 48 riders was down but get back quite fast.
KM 142: Another crash again no important riders.
KM 141: The breakaway starts the longest climb today “Castiglion del Bosco” the breakaway got 5’08
KM137: Gilbert sitting safely in the peloton with start no. 1, the climb is hard on paper but the pace is not too bad yet.

i.imgur.com/9FcbjGS.jpg

KM: 100 The breakaway have started to lose time now at 3’57

Betancur at least for now a protected rider sitting behind Sütterlin, close to the front. We still got a full peloton

i.imgur.com/93S8U75.jpg

KM:90 The peloton split, Ballerini missed the cut while Van Avermaet is just barely hanging on as the very last rider in the peloton.

i.imgur.com/rQtvIiT.jpg

KM:80 The 2nd peloton makes it back, almost a full peloton with 152 riders. Meanwhile attack where Kennaugh (BOH) and Gaudu (GFC) start a pursuit on their own.
Ballerini now sitting safely with his teammates in the middle of the peloton

i.imgur.com/6YuYxsx.jpg

KM:50 Kennaugh and Gaudu brought back, the breakaway has just 1’ to a peloton of 140 riders
All our focus riders in the bunch only Van Avermaet sitting a bit low
In the other end Ulissi sitting very well protected right behind the riders pulling.

i.imgur.com/WBy7GpB.jpg

KM:40
The pace is now very hot while the bunch attempt to close the last 39” left to the breakaway.
Now we got a new split, Ulissi, Betancur and Mohoric in the peloton, but Ballerini, Van Avermaet and Gilbert in A1.

i.imgur.com/ToAgUk7.jpg

KM:30
We have just seen Gilbert losing contact to A1, seemingly having a bad day.
Van Avermaet sitting in the middle of A1, hoping for others to close the 1’33 to the favourites
While Ballerini is sometimes taking a turn doing his part of the pursuit.

In the bunch Ulissi still sitting good
Betancur have lost his protected role, now bringing forward water to the teammates.
Mohoric doing good sitting well placed in about 15 position.

i.imgur.com/Tmy55MW.jpg

KM 20
The breakaway not caught yet
Mohoric, Ulissi and Betancur in peloton at 23”
Van Avermaet in A1 (1’22) quite a nice comeback after a bad start
Ballerini in A2 (1’48)
Gilbert in A4 (2’20)

Mikel Landa (MOV) in the peloton and Betancur acting as domestic, sharing the workload at the front with Gregor Mühlberger (BOH)

i.imgur.com/9n6YDwc.jpg

KM 10
We had the first very serious attack, from Jungles and Polanc but to no use.
Gilbert and Ballerini in A5 (2’44)
Betancur and Mohoric in A2 (1’12)
Ulissi in the leading group as the breakaway is over. Now also with a great last 10 km Van Avermaet has closed the gap to the leaders.

i.imgur.com/OxmCVZe.jpg

KM 5
All our focus riders now gathered in two groups:
Ulissi and Van Avermaet in the leading group, but this group of 21 have slowed down some, and in A1 at 1’03 we now got the remaining 4 focus riders.

KM 1
The finish a 1.2 km wall with an avg of 7%, Julian Alaphilippe leading the group, Ulissi inside top 10 while Van Avermaet in the rear end of the group.

i.imgur.com/wtv6urP.jpg

Julian Alaphilippe (Quick Step) wins the race, Diego Ulissi best focus rider as 7th, Greg Van Avermaet comes in as 20th.

i.imgur.com/I8jvELO.jpg

Philippe Gilbert although having a hard day amongst the best from A1 24th.
Betancur 28th, Davide Ballerini 46th and Matej Mohoric 48th passing the line together

Not the brightest start for none, but i like very much this format and ideeea and the reports too Smile

@jaxika: Thanks (but lets improve)

Results updated on page 1.

As mentioned I will up the Prize money and lower the upgrades to make investments more logic and earning easier.

With this new system, you should be able to gather money in a few races, and then you are able to go all in investing in top riders.

But I got a few questions:

1 Should you be able to pick all riders, if you get a fat bank account, or should there be a skill limit of 78 or 80 (as we had in SB)

2 Would it be fun to have two lists so you can pick a GC ride and a Support rider

3 Should there be a special prize system for Monuments and Grand tours

4 Vote for next race:
Paris - Nice
Tirreno-Adriatico
Edited by Tamijo on 28-05-2019 12:03

jaxika
1. Max 78
2. In the classic races no, only in GC two types, GC+sprinter/stage hunter.
3. Nope

Paris - Nice or Tirreno-Adriatico ?

Ripley
Great report, Tamijo! I think this is shaping up to be a fun game! Nice work, Mohoric. I took a good look at the startlist and thought he was excellent value for money. I hope we'll find a good balance between pretty safe low earnings and the chance to walk away with a big sum. Btw, I'm fine to set my account at 0, too, it was only a test run.

As for the questions, tough to say. The harder you make the limits the easier it should be to find a good balance, less variables to consider. More options would probably be more fun tactically, but might take longer to get right. I'm easy about the next race. You could even pick another one-day race first.

No reason to steal you Euro's, as I will pump the points so they will have reduced effect anyway

Ripley
Just had another idea: Variable prices. Otherwise we might end up picking the same riders all the time. I dunno how easy that would be, but how about a new price depending on the last result? For example, Mohoric would now cost 55 in the current scale. Could either be done for all riders or only for riders who had been picked by somebody in the last race.

There will be variable prices every race, based on the different profiles.
I don't want to look to much at previous results, mainly how the rider chances are, also not to make it too complicated.

Tamijo
Earnings and upgrade cost updated at page 1, with higher earnings and lower upgrade cost (up to a certain point) it should now be much easier to make a “living”. Rider pricing will also by slightly higher so it is still a good idea to build a bank account, before you are investing in top riders.

Expected top riders cost level about 300-400 Euro, dependent on the strength of the field

Max skill level of most important skill will be 78 (max upgraded 82)

Tamijo
As suggested by Ripley one more classic.
