Roger Walkowiak has passed away. He was the oldest living Tour Winner following Kublers eath at the end of 2016.
Famously Roger was the winner of the '56 Tour, which gave rise to the phrase "a la Walko" for an unexpected/undeserving victory.
Federico Bahamontes is how the oldest living Tour winner.

Really cool article, I really like this Hugh Carthy guy. He isn't like most, reminds me a bit of a Moncoutie-personality. Remains to be seen if he takes it all the way and doesn't dope.
Also, big fan of Bardet, but it has to be the 5th or 6th article about the guy this winter on cyclingnews today. How he pays attention to details and is very motivated etc. Enough, lol...
ALSO 2 weeks till the Belgian weekend and 3 for Strade Bianche!
Edit: Not a bad next week either tho.... |

Rahim Emami (winner of 2016 Tour Fouzhou) suspended. And Pishgaman, one of the infamous Iranian teams, gets suspended as it's that teams 2nd positive in 12-months.

Naser Rezavi was banned almost exactly 12-months before for the same drugs, and at the same race.
Don't know what's happening, but the UCI website is suddenly getting a variety of news posts and seems to be updating all it's documents regularly

Elections are coming and Cookson's probably trying to show he can actually make it function

I'm all for Cookson if they can keep this up! It's another good source for news and updates, especially as it avoids various biases and views certain news reporters hold.

2018 Grand Depart in the Vendee. The opening should be in the Puy du Fou historical theme park. Then heading north for some gravel/dirt roads in Brittany.

Tour of Turkey organizators are in talks with UCI for delaying the race from April to September. The bid for the Tour of Turkey is not complete yet and 3 months left to the race start. (source is me lol)
Update: I didnt see any official thing from Tour of Turkey organisation, but it is nearly confirmed that tour of turkey will be taken from 3rd week of April to 1st week of October, probably 1 day after the Giro di Lombardia, however it will not make the race the last one, as Tour of Guangxi is estimated in mid October.

Thats good at least. Awkward positioning, nobody hardly notices the race whereas it will get a lot more attention that late. At least from me. |

Bad news about Tour of Turkey but as a person living in Turkey I can definitely understand the concerns of the teams about the race and conditions of the country.
@TMM The Tour will ride the Tro Bro Leon roads probably if they go there. Should be a very interesting stage if they make a proper stage from Tro Bro Leon roads. |

Are we talking about the team which was an annually guest in the Tour of Qatar (Quickstep) and the teams which take part in this years Abu Dhabi Tour?
A bit hypocritical if you ask me, although I understand that they won't go to Turkey. (And I say that as someone living here)

I understand that point, but I think the Middle East countries are slightly improving when it comes to human right, while Turkey is getting worse by the day. I think Turkey is currently one of the worst (de facto) dictatorships in the world, because unlike the african countries, they still are a powerful nation.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No more Cauberg at the finale of the Amstel. Not sure what to think of this. It might make the racing more interesting, but I really liked that climb.

Anything different to mix up the Ardennes is welcome in my book. They have been a borefest the last couple of years.

It may have a similar parcours, just without the cauberg.. But still an Interesting race for sure.

Yes. The plan is to give an incentive to people to ride for more than 3 kilometres leading to the best riders attacking further from the finish. Very welcome indeed. We have FW for a hill sprint without no entertainment beforehand (which is fine as it is), but we don't need more of those races. It will be 3 very different races now. |
