Not a fan of Rabottini, being an ex-doper.
Just a list, not sure what role they'd have, but I think they're all more than ordinary domestiques:
Davide Ballerini
Elia Favilli
Marco Frapporti
Nicola Genovese
Donato De Ieso
Pierpaolo Ficara
Simone Campagnaro
Mattia Pozzo
And for a sponsor
Main Sponsor: Fondital (has previous cycling experience)
Co-Sponsor (if applicable): Callipo
Other Sponsors: Bianchi, Campagnolo, Lotto
Logos for main sponsors in spoiler
Both sponsors are from Southern Italy (Calabria & Basilicata), so it's maybe something to keep in mind when selecting riders (I haven't though ). From the riders I mentioned Genovese, Ficara and De Ieso are from the southern parts of Italy.

Just noticed you had picked other equipment sponsors than me, so you can scrap that part and just imagine Colnago, Sportful instead of Bianchi and Lotto (and add Rudy to the list)

Thanks trek, martii and selwink for the additional suggestions for the riders and sponsors. It is a great help to the story
@martii - I will not be including Rabottini for the reason selink said. I'm afraid his link to doping excludes him from the team

So... I have looked through the suggestions so far, and the team is coming nicely together!
Nat. | Name | Specialisation | Role | | Francesco Lasca | Sprinter | Leader | | Elia Favilli | Puncheur | Leader | | | | Leader | | Luca Wackermann | Puncheur | Luxury Teammate | | Cristiano Salerno | Climber | Luxury Teammate | | | | Luxury Teammate | | Donato de Ieso | Climber | Luxury Teammate | | Nicola Genovese | Sprinter | Teammate | | Edward Ravasi | Climber | Teammate | | Simone Consonni | Sprinter | Teammate | | Pierpaolo Ficara | Puncheur | Teammate | | | | Teammate | | | | Teammate | | | | Teammate | | | | Teammate | | Giovanni Carboni | Climber | Talent | | Marco Tecchio | Puncheur | Talent | | Filipoo Ganna | Time Trial | Talent |
The above riders are who I selected from the riders suggested so far, and I think they all give the team a good base to build on for the story.
As you can see, there are still gaps, so I will be opening up suggestions to fill them. Please be aware of the riders already selected, the roles filed, the types of riders already in the team and make your selections from there.
*****
I would also like your thoughts on a few riders I would like to put forward myself:
- Fabio Duarte (Leader) - brings experience and will not be too overpowered in the the CT division. Ideal in the mountains and hilly races.
- Jonathan Monsalve (Co Leader) - Super domestique to Duarte really and will compliment him nicely.
- Walter Vargas (Domestique) - young TT rider, who will fit nicely into a lead-out train.
- Alessandro Bazzana (Domestique) - adds experience and will be a good addition to the lead-out train for Lasca. Ideal road captain.

The team looks really likeable!
hmmm, with this team I would say you should go straight into PCT, otherwise it's far too strong for PCT...it would be the strongest CT team without doubt, add to that that it's perfectly made for the PCM AIs weaknesses...
I like Duarte and Bazzana if PCT! But f.e. Bazzana alone would be a perfect CT leader with his stats...
a little sad that we have no regional identity inside Italy with riders and sponsors but that would've always been a difficult thing...would like to get a shot on the sponsors before the last riders are decided - do you want to add a minor Colombian sponsor?

Dion Smith for leader only problem is there's already a sprinter and a puncheur and he's both so a climber could do - Hayden McCormick as a temmate for siad climber?
Agree with Croatia on the PCT/CT for Duarte, with this current team it's hard as we'd get beaten in PCT but win CT comfortably probably so would need a strong PCT leader

I like the idea of Yonathan Monsalve involved, especially with his background of having evolved through Italian amateur ranks / Italian U23 races and having raced only for Italian teams.
Same goes for Venezuelian rider Yonder Godoy, several years in Italian teams and without team at the start of 2016, so could be an idea to add him as well to have a Venezuelian duo (and maybe even Venezuelian Tourist ministry as minor sponsor).
I don't want do disagree with Dion Smith/Hayden McCormick, but if the team really goes for PCT, wouldn't it maybe be better to have a leader who has some connection/history within the Italian cycling scene?
Or just leave Duarte / Bazzana and another stronger rider out, get some more younger riders with lesser potential than Consonni/Ravasi etc. and still go for CT? |

With a number of riders on the team, I feel it time to put some sponsors in place. As suggested by a number of different members, having them regional makes a good amount of sense.
With that, all the sponsors will be from the North Eastern parts of Italy, so the Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto provinces.
Veneto Banca will be the main backer of the team, however an additional second co-sponsor is still required to give the team it's required budget for the season. De'Longhi, Dolomiti di Brenta Bike and Vittoria S.p.A. will join the team as minor sponsors, and join Campagnolo on the team.
Sadly Colnago just do not fit into the regional demographic, which is a huge shame, but the team bikes will now be provided by Pinarello instead.
*****
I am still open to suggestions on any additional sponsors, in particular a co-sponsor to match with Veneto Banca. Depending on the nationalities of the final riders int he squad, I am still open to non-Italian sponsors being put forward.
Also, as the PCT/CT vote in a 50/50 split, and was decided by a random generator I found online, I want to open that back up to a quick straw in the thread...
Keep it CT or go for PCT? - post your thoughts.

nice sponsor choice I'd still really like Calligaris as a sponsor and Turismo FVG (perfect fit to Dolomita di Brenta) - both could be minor ones
with this team it has to be PCT! all the way, and Monsalve also looks great

PCT Be like Hincapie or One Pro Cycling - nationality based team with a few random Kiwis. in PCT Smith would be a domestique with room to lead (not sure what his current stats are) in small races - could also put forward Oram as a hilly domestique but agree leaders should be sponsor countries.
Yeah, I'm suggesting you take all One Pro Cycling's Kiwis

@Croatia: Calligaris is a sponsor that I do like, and I might go with them in the end. I will see if any other suggestions come in though
@jandal: The thing with both those teams are an Anglophone base and backing and Kiwis in a Italian team isn't the same to me. As I said, I am using the Daily EP for for the story, so you can look at that for stats. From who you have suggested so far (all Kiwis and One Pro riders... :roll McCormick would not be good enough for the role, Smith is too similar to Wackermann but Oram could work as a domestique given his stats.

Division Decision & Jersey Poll I am going to make the decision (based on the two replies so far) to go with PCT for the division. Given that, the four riders I mentioned in my last post have been added to the squad. The remaining roles on the team are both DOMESTIQUE.
In addition, we have a new task to look at over the next couple of days - The Jersey Design!
Two designs to pick from below (no logos added just yet), and the place to vote is here: https://goo.gl/5I...
Spoiler Jersey A
Jersey B
The Deadline for the Jersey Design Poll and remaining riders is 5pm GMT on 4th October

I would like to see Giacomo Berlato or Alessandro Tonelli in the team, although they might be a bit too strong to be teammates. If that is the case, I would say Oliviero Troia could be a good match.

The deadline for the Jersey Design has now passed and thanks to those who voted.
We have a resounding victory for one design, taking 100% of the vote. The winning jersey is:
I will start working on the new jersey for the season, and reveal once all the sponsors are decided upon and worked into the jersey.

Decision Made: Sponsors & Squad With the jersey design selected, I have decided to finalise both the team sponsors and the riders in the squad. All come from the Veneto region, and add a little locality to the team.
*****
First up is the sponsorship - one will be co-sponsor, along with Veneto Banca, whilst the other will be minor sponsor.
DelClima has been selected as the team's co-sponsor and will run alongside Veneto Banca for the forthcoming season. Based in Treviso, the company also has links to De'Longhi, who is part of the squad as a minor sponsor.
In addition, we are welcoming onboard Calligaris, as suggested by Croatia14, as a minor sponsor. I liked the logo and suggestion from the off, but I was unsure how to fit it into the design and colour scheme as a co-sponsor. As a minor sponsor though, it is perfect.
*****
With that in place, it was time to finish off the roster. I wanted to add riders who came from the main regions we were looking at originally, so Veneto riders it is!
I have selected Nicola Dal Santo and Andrea Manfredi to fill the domestique roles required. Dal Santo is a good TT rider, who can work as part of the lead-out train for Lasca, whilst Manfredi will fill as part of our hilly races team.
That completes the 18 rider line-up, which can be found in full in Post #4 on the first page.
I will welcome feedback on the team as a whole, and leave it a few days before the next tasks are assigned and set up.

Jersey Reveal & Team Name Poll So we have the sponsors, we have the team roster and we have the base jersey design. Now it is time to reveal the jersey in full.
I have tried to capture all the elements of the sponsors, and give the jersey an identity that everyone will like the look of. The mix of colours, particularly when testing in-game, does make it stand out in the peleton without it being too bright and bling.
So here it is:
Let me know your thoughts!
*****
The next poll for your votes is a simple one - what shall the Team's Name be? Shall we include both sponsors? Will it be a ProCycling Team or a Racing Team? How about it being named something completely different... You decide!
Here is the link to the poll: https://goo.gl/hf...
Voting closes at Saturday 15th October at 6pm GMT

I have left the story for a little longer than anticipated for a few reasons recently. Firstly, general busyness in my life at the moment, and but also because I felt that the same members were commenting on the posts, and some areas were feedback would have been nice, I have had nothing (comments on the completed jersey is an example of this).
Obviously, with this being a community story, I want people to get involved. If not, I'm sure how much of a long running story it will be, and I might look at other things instead.
*****
Nearly 3 weeks ago, I ran a vote to decide the Team Name for the new Italian team. Thanks for those who took part, and the winner was Veneto Banca - DelClima with 42.9% of the votes. Joint runner-up were Veneto Banca Racing & Team Veneto Banca with 28.6% each. All other options received no votes at all.
*****
The final thing to be decided is the Calendar and in particularly which Wildcards we apply for.
Personally, I think the Italian WT races and the Giro d'Italia are a definite, with maybe one or two other WT races in the mix. As for the rest of the calendar, a majorly European schedule is fine of the season.
Let me know what you all think!
