Actually, it was my first full race as well. Van der Poel clearly the better technical rider, but I'm hoping for an exciting dual to the finish in one of the next races.

Good race today, the new generation of Belgians seems to be more willing to ride as a team than the De Clercq/Nys generation. Toon Aerts is a surprising winner, but he's a good and especially a smart rider, well deserved!

Meh. I don't like tactical races. I'd rather a see MvdP vs WvA battle.
A Belgian team working together in cyclocross is OP. |

Wout Van Aert takes the Koppenbergcross in a very dominant way, complete offday for Mathieu.

One of my favourite aces, the Duinencross, gets cancelled because of the wind. After going outside, I can understand the call.

Mathieu van der Poel won both races this weekend and seems to be in top shape.
I liked the course in Zeven. I hope it stays in the World Cup.
Also there was a fight between Jens Adams and Vincent Baestaens in today's race.

Can't do much about Mathieu at the moment. Some mud would be welcome.

21 - 21 head 2 head for their career. Thought it be better in Mathieu's favour already.

I didn't. Wout has developed at an insane rate the past few seasons to the point of him being better than Mathieu. I think Mathieu has only recently caught up with Wout again, after being hindered by injuries last year.
Still think Wout has the edge when it comes to pure power, but Mathieu has better technique and acceleration. |

Here's an interesting (flemish) article about the Van Aert/Van der Poel dominance. I guess most of you won't understand the interviews, but the statistics at the bottom of the page are pretty clear.

Mathieu looked quite lethargic today though most important part of the race was a very steep natural wall they had to run up to and VdP hasn't been able to train running because of the injuries. First time the knees affected him.
Tomorrow he'll be fine again ahead of Wout.
Shame there's still no mud. Essen next week hopefully it'll get real then. Not many parcous for a real mud cross left.

Lars Boom rides his first crosses of the season this week and he says he'll focus on the worlds. Not sure if that's a good thing for Mathieu or not.

Van Aert wins in Loenhout, but the race was overshadowed by a terrible crash of Mathieu. At the very least end of season for him I think.

Apparently there's no fractures and he left the hospital, so he should be able to make the worlds.
Stybar was also racing today, but already ruled out he would ride the worlds. Just like Lars Boom a few days ago, he would need a lot of work to catch up with the rest of field, let alone threaten Wout & Mathieu.

No surprises at the NCs: Venturini, Meisen, Taramarcaz, Mathieu and Wout.

Seems like we have less cyclocross followers this year..
Toon Aerts probably misses the Worlds after a bad crash today.
