One has to wonder if König doesn't have some issues as well though.
Yeah. König doesn't seem ready to race atm. Even if there was nothing holding him back, he has zero race legs, and probably haven't been training for a grand tour at all either.
So i don't think he will be worth much to Landa even if they do bring him
EDIT: Just looked at the startlist for the teams(nothing confirmed 100% yet)
Sky has a really shitty team for the Giro. If Henao is being pulled out, and they don't bring in Poels, Thomas or Nieve, Their captain Landa, is going to be isolated so bad by the Astana mountain train.
The only thing Astana needs, is a Nibali on point, and then i don't see him losing the Giro to Landa, with the mountain domestiques he has.

Agree. The likes of Boswell Sebi Henao really needs to step it up..

Indeed, and Roche has really lost a bit in the mountains these last few years. If Sergio Henao is pulled out, and they don't get any of the TDF domestiques to join the Giro, i honestly think that Landa will be isolated on most mountain stages when there is 15-20 riders left.
Agree with pretty much everything, apart from the fact you dont think the Risoul-stage is well designed. As you point out, its the only proper MTF and no matter what, that ensures action.. it doesnt really matter that much what you put beforehand and its the only stage of that kind, where as the other pretty much follows the script of hard-easy climb. Angel will have an impact, but no matter what, it will come down to Risoul pretty much considering what stage 20 looks like. I think its perfectly fine to include that MTF.
Strangely, the stage I look forward to the most is stage 18. Not because it looks epic on paper, but because I was at Pra Martino in 2011 when Le Tour rolled through. That year, they climbed the easy side, while this year, they'll ascend the hard one. Its basically 4 Mur de Huy's stacked on top of each other, Mende +1 kilometre or a slightly easier climb than Xorret de Cati just for some references. Its brutal.
I climbed both sides in 2011. Both descents are are highly technical and its a beautiful climb to climb since much of the climb is covered by woods. That also makes it extremely hard to descent, on top of it being technical, since everyone who has ridden a bike knows that descending at high speed is particular hard when trees shadows the climb. Anyways, as far as I remember, the hard side, which thankfully is the side they ascend this year, is more covered in woods. No matter what, it will look amazing on TV.
At 5.25, after Montevarchi on the right side, its me at 5.30 in the white shirt to the right:
Me, my father and his friend in the bottom of Pra Martino, the easy side. I think it only averages 6%, the gradients comes and goes, the other side is almost completely steady.
Its me in the Euskaltel-outfit. Aupa Mikel!

BibleThump
but I do agree with your third statement, the way Giro handles it is terrible. that flyover from some random ass country to italy seems unnessercary if you can have the same stuff in Italy
A foreign GT start now and then is okay imo. But not every other year and this is I think the 6th time a GT that starts in the Netherlands since 2009. Way too much.
TBF the Netherlands is one of the bigges countries for cycling. The bigger ones would be Belgium (only one start since 09, huh...), France, Italy and Spain. If i was organising a Grand Tour i know where i would look to host a start!
Without going that far what choices do some races have? Spain has France (who have the TDF), Andorra (like they can host a start) an Portugal. Italy has France (TDF), Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Starting that far into the Alps (Swi + Aut) wouldn't make for a good route. Slovenia wouldn't be a bad idea though, but could they compete financially with bigger cycling nations?

It's actually the worst kept secret. Everyone knows I'm Dekker_Tifosi. Been there ever since CN started their forum.
