Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 1
i.imgur.com/US4nlYp.png

The first stage in Australia is designed for sprinters so it's very likely we will see a battle between the two German power horses, Marcel Kittel and Andre Greipel, at the finish line.

The breakaway did a fine job today and even though they were caught only inside the last 10 kilometers, it was always clear that the stage will end in a mass sprint.

Etixx setting up their train

Despite having some GC aspirations, Alaphilippe had no problem working for Renshaw and he did quite a good job putting our train in front with less than 10 kilometers before the finish line.

i.imgur.com/BDyet41.png

It wasn't until Sabatini took over that the real racing started though. The Italian is in top shape and under his pace, there was almost a gap created between our train and Lotto's train.

i.imgur.com/jFr8qxm.png

Lotto managed to make up the lost ground though. But that turned out to be bad news for both us and them. Greipel lost the wheel of his lead - out, while Meersman failed to properly launch Renshaw.

i.imgur.com/iVLxxJy.png

On the other side of the road things were looking way better for Greipel's main rival, Marcel Kittel, who even though was left out in the wind by Degenkolb with more than 1 kilometer to go, he looked to be in a perfect position.

i.imgur.com/tu5UUJW.png

And the German took quite a comfortable win, in the end. The poorly positioned Greipel took the second place, in front of Arnaud Demare.

Tour de San Luis: Stage 3
i.imgur.com/azyPexp.png

A stage that looks made for sprinters at first sight but in the final kilometers the road starts going uphill, so we might see some interesting moves there.

A breakaway of three made it through today, but as soon as their advantage reached 6 minutes, Etixx started chasing in the back and the escapees were eventually brought back.

i.imgur.com/SZlOOu7.png

Inside the final 10 kilometers, it was time for our sprint train to make its move. And Martin was pulling so hard that only Appollonio was able to hang on and a gap opened up between our train, the Italian and the rest of the pack.

i.imgur.com/h07UzJx.png
Tony Martin had a great day

Appollonio made quite a strange move though and instead of following Cavendish' wheel he tried to take the race on his own.

i.imgur.com/CG4qo5v.png

But he failed as he even had problems overtaking Tom Boonen in the final sprint and with the final kilometer banner in sight Cavendish seemed to be in the perfect position with Trentin ready to lead him to the finish line.

i.imgur.com/J5H7bt6.png

Cavendish didn't seem bothered with the stage win though and decided to gift Trentin the stage win, a move which even took the Italian by surprise.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 2
i.imgur.com/ip715Xi.png

Today's stage in Australia resembles the one from Argentina. But the finish from this stage seems even harder than the one we had in Tour de San Luis.

Once again the breakaway stood no chance in from of a pack eager to fight for the stage win.

With a harder finish than yesterday, some changes were made in the Etixx train with Van Keirsbulck and Alaphilippe set to lead out Gianni Meersman.

i.imgur.com/8VDz4R0.png

And once again the train seemed to be working perfectly with Alaphilippe and Meersman with the perfect position as the final sprint started. Only Kristoff's train seemed able to match Alaphilippe's speed.

i.imgur.com/zDuMUCA.png

Katusha weren't strong enough to hold, but under the 1 kilometer banner a new train emerged to battle ours and it was a very strong one set up by Orica for Michael Matthews.

i.imgur.com/9CoiWux.png

Meersman wasn't strong enough to fight for the win today and could only watch as Matthews and Moreno Hofland were sprinting away from him for the stage win. Hofland put up a very strong fight as he and Matthews went on to the finish line wheel to wheel.

i.imgur.com/DITtdXZ.png

It was a very close finish, but in the end it was Bling who got the stage win and the leader's jersey to go with it. A fantastic day for Orica, whose team work paid off.

Tour de San Luis: Stage 4
i.imgur.com/zRPuhsI.png

The first mountain stage in this year's Tour de San Luis. Philippe Gilbert will definitely struggle to keep the leader's jersey, with Michele Scarponi just 25 seconds behind him, ready to take over.

The breakaways have had no success so far and today was no different, which means that as we hit the first slopes of the final climb the riders were all together.

But it didn't stay like that for too long as Hesjedal made an early move. Having lost more than one minute in the previous uphill finish there was no reason for the Canadian to sit around and wait for the others to make their moves.

Still, Scarponi and Mollema followed his wheel closely as the Canadian opened a gap to the rest of the pack.

i.imgur.com/YsEXGw5.png
A little game of cat and mouse

But they refused to work with Hesjedal, both probably sensing how strong the Canadian was today. After catching his breath, the Garmin rider attacked again and this time neither Mollema nor Scarponi had a response.

i.imgur.com/kXb2xYC.png
No one is able to match Hesjedal's acceleration

The Canadian put in a huge effort, riding for 9 kilometers alone. But he had no time to look back as he knew his deficit to the others was quite big follow the bad day he had in the hilly stage.

Still, as reached the finish line, he knew that not only that the stage win was his, but also the leader's jersey. A huge day for Ryder Hesjedal!

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 3
i.imgur.com/B45K1Qd.png

Another tricky finish for today's stage. Michael Matthews' fantastic sprint from yesterday makes him the big favorite for today, while Moreno Hofland surely looks to improve on yesterday's second place.

Orica set up a good pace in front of the pack throughout the entire day and the breakaway was history under the 10 kilometers banner.

The race was very hard to control once we hit the slopes of the final hill and Matthews was left all alone in front by Orica. Etixx were also nowhere to be seen.

i.imgur.com/iqTE7BU.png
No team was strong enough to control the race on the final uphill section

Tom Jelte Slagter was the first rider to make a move in the pack and as we reached the flamme rouge, he was leading the way.

i.imgur.com/Efg0IWI.png

But it proved to be a bad move by the Dutch man who went into the red a few hundred meters later and was forced to move out of the way, leaving Bardet, Izagirre, Matthews and Valverde to contest the stage win.

i.imgur.com/pEIPY37.png

Romain Bardet proved to be the strongest in the end and the took the win in front of Izagirre and Slagter, who regained his strength in the closing meters of the stage. Michael Matthews finished fifth and despite not gaining any bonus seconds will keep the leader's jersey for another day.

Tour de San Luis: Stage 5
i.imgur.com/0IJpyW0.png

We've had mountains, we've had sprints, we've had hills, now it's time for a time - trial.

Despite taking it easy in the first part of the race, Tony Martin still set the best intermediate times at both check points. By the time he reached the finish line it was clear that his time 23 minutes and 10 seconds will be very hard to beat.

i.imgur.com/YXvXihD.png
After working for Cavendish, Tony Martin finally had his time to shine

Cancellara beat Martin's time at both check points, but failed to match the Etixx rider's speed in the last section and finished 7 seconds short of the stage win.

i.imgur.com/20RG8nR.png
The Swiss Champion was slower than the German Champion

Ryder Hesjedal had a rather mediocre day, failing to finish in the top 10 of the stage. Still, his main rivals, Scarponi and Mollema are both worse in the race against the clock which allowed the Canadian to earn a few more seconds in the battle for the GC.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 4
i.imgur.com/IhACM0w.png

Despite some uphill sections in the last part of the stage, the final kilometers seem to be flat which means we might see Mark Renshaw back in action today.

There was a lot of nervosity in the pack in the closing kilometers of the stage as the breakaway had not been reeled in yet with less than 10 kilometers to go.

And that proved to be very bad news for Etixx as Van Keirsbulck crashed, bringing Alaphilippe and Sabatini down with him as well. Peter Sagan, Andre Greipel, Purito Rodriguez and Tom Dumoulin were also involved in the crash.

i.imgur.com/ryziIBJ.png

The strongest two out of a eight men breakaway group, Trusov and Turgot, were still in front of the pack, still hanging onto an advantage of few seconds, with the flamme rouge in sight.

i.imgur.com/suXLgAa.png
Trusov and Turgot could almost sense the smell of victory

But their hopes were shredded inside the final kilometer, when an unleashed Elia Viviani looked set to take his first victory of the season.

i.imgur.com/6HEj7cg.png

Viviani seemed to have made his too early though as Hofland, Kristoff and Modolo were all looking faster and fresher than him in the final meters of the stage.

i.imgur.com/Lt4oS9j.png
A very close finish announced itself...

Kristoff proved to be the man with the most power left in his legs in the end as the Norwegian claimed Katusha's first win of the season. Something to look forward for the Russian team following Purito's crash.

The entire team bar Mark Renshaw dropped to help Alaphilippe get back in the pack but it turned out to be mission impossible as the Frenchman saw his GC hopes ruined, finishing more than 3 minutes down to the stage winner.

Tour de San Luis: Stage 6
i.imgur.com/yWArb2Z.png

The last mountain stage in Argentina. Everything will be decided today. Can Hesjedal hold on to his one minute lead or will Scarponi, or perhaps, Bauke Mollema take the bacon home?

Today might be quite a special day. Why? We might see the first breakaway making it to the finish line. Maxime Boet was part of a strong 8 men breakaway group, which included Samuel Sanchez, Philippe Gilbert (10th in the GC?!), Enrico Gasparotto and Ruben Fernandez.

As the breakaway hit the early slopes of the final climb, their lead to the pack was over 4 minutes. Surely, some of the escapees might be able to hang on to that lead till the very end.

Bouet thought so and he took no time in making his move. Surprisingly though, no one seems to be interested to join him. Perhaps they felt it was a bit early.

i.imgur.com/AHT94ym.png
Maxime Bouet opening up a gap

Bouet paced himself beautifully on the climb and despite having some problems in the final kilometers he still held a good lead with 5 kilometers to go: over two minutes in front of Ruben Fernandez who had attacked from the breakaway group, who also had over one minute in front of the pack.

i.imgur.com/OLds4l7.png
Fans from all over the world came to Argentina, in January...

Speaking of the pack, they managed to catch the remaining escapes and as soon as that happened Hesjedal's rivals attacked him and the Canadian didn't seem to have a response. Another off day for the Garmin rider.

De Gendt, Mollema and Scarponi quickly got a gap, with Diego Rosa also joining Scarponi in the group.

i.imgur.com/KwLFrvh.png

Even though the attack's timing looked perfect for their GC aspirations, it was too late for the stage win as they had no chance in bringing back Maxime Bouet.

The Frenchman took a fantastic win, the 4th Etixx stage win in 6 stages in San Luis. Definitely a performance to remember!

i.imgur.com/FyatjgC.png
Bouet had time to enjoy his victory

Behind him, both Mollema and Scarponi gained enough time on Hesjedal to overtake the Canadian in the GC, with Scarponi looking set for the overall win now.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 5
i.imgur.com/15xryjd.png

It's time for the queen stage in the Tour Down Under, the classic stage ending at the top of the Willunga Hill. Matthews has been leading the race since the second stage and this will be the final, but also the hardest test that he will have to pass before winning his home race. And with the first 7 riders in the GC withing 10 seconds, the race for the orange jersey should be quite open.

Aleksejs Saramotins was part of a two men breakaway group today, a group which survived the first pass of the Willunga Hill, allowing the Latvian rider to extend his lead in the KoM classification, a classification he should now win if nothing unexpected happens in the final stage.

A strong group of 10 riders, which included Valverde, Slagter, Matthews and Purito got away at the top of the first pass of the Willunga Hill, but with neither Hofland or Gesink making the cut, LottoNL made sure their action won't be a successful one.

i.imgur.com/p71LmSK.png

We reached the second and final pass of the Willunga Hill with the favorites all together and with Izagirre pacing the pack for Alejandro Valverde, who followed his wheel closely.

And a few moments later we saw Valverde making his move. Matthews was quick to give the Spaniard a response, but that didn't prove to be the best of ideas as the Aussie went into the red trying to follow Piti

Tour de San Luis: Stage 7
i.imgur.com/BL1LRYD.png

Despite not having exactly a flat route, the last stage in San Luis should end in a mass sprint, which could be an opportunity for Etixx for yet another stage win.

And things sure looked that way when with 3 kilometers to go, the pack led by the Etixx train caught a group of escapees. It wasn't all good news for the sprinters though as 3 riders were yet to be caught and they seemed to be the favorites to take the stage win.

i.imgur.com/kwjxyQD.png

As he reached the flamme rouge, Marco Benfatto was leading the race with quite an important gap in front of Nicola Boem and Enrico Gasparotto. It looked to be the perfect day for Italy.

The Androni rider hold on to his advantage and brought his team their first win of the season in a stage which saw no major changes to the GC, with Michele Scarponi holding onto his overall lead.

Santos Tour Down Under: Stage 6
i.imgur.com/M9CznqM.png

As always the Tour Down Under ends with a few laps in the city of Adelaide. Kittel will look to add this stage to his win from the opening day, on a route designed for sprinters.

After missing the stage win by only just a couple of days ago, Turgot and Trusov were once again amongst the attackers of the day. And this time it also proved to be a close one behind the breakaway and the pack.

Sensing the opportunity, Sebastien Turgot attacked his fellow escapes with 4 kilometers to go, a move to which no one had a response.

And it proved to be a brilliant move by the Frenchman as the pack caught the breakaway group, he was still going strong with the finish line now in his sight.

And this time he made it! A great win for Turgot who has fought pretty hard this week to get here. A few seconds behind me, Valverde safely finished in the pack to claim the overall glory.

Vuelta Ciclista a Mallorca: Stage 1
i.imgur.com/Rf7zlzK.png

The racing in Mallorca will start with a flat stage, designed for sprinters. And with no plenty of guys on the same level, it is really hard to point to a major favorite.

Kwiatkowski did an amazing job positioning our train to the from of the pack as the last 10 kilometers of the race were reached.

Sadly though, Vandenbergh wasn't as strong as the Pole rider and he left Lampaert and Trentin alone at the front of the pack with quite some distance before the finish line.

Lampaert was forced to work more than he was supposed to

Eventually Lampaert lost the leading position in the pack and as a result, Trentin was not able to be one of the riders that contested the stage win today, despite the very close finish, with 5 riders very close to each other with only a few meters of the stage left.

Van Asbroeck and Bennett ready for one last push

A very close finish for the first day of racing in Mallorca, but in the end, it's Tom Van Asbroeck who takes the stage win in front of Sam Bennett, by only just.
