Bancolombia - a new Continental Team

Monthly Leaders:
World Tour: Samuel Dumolin (109 Points)
Continental Tour: José Rujano (139 Points)
Mondial Points: Marcel Kittel (512 Points)

Rujano leading the Continental Tour looks nice, although that's just one month and he was doing good in both races which we gave high priority

Etoile de Besseges is our next race ... we normally would not send riders to this race as it is not a race that suits our riders. But alas, our sponsor thinks we need to get good results here as there are several newspapers from france reporting from Besseges. So we send a small squad

Sprinter: Castaneta
Captain: Piero Huaman, Alex Cano Ardila
Domestiques: Alcolea, Lature, Nino Corredor

imageshack.com/a/img661/2125/VpUsfg.jpg
When i saw that startlist i just said one word ... damn. A strong field, especially the sprinters: Kittel, Mondory, Steegmans, Drucker just to name a few. Also many good hill and TT specialists there. A strong race to be sure

The breakaway did not make it in the first stage. We tried to place our sprinter in a good position - that worked but he just couldn't keep the wheel of Geslin.

imageshack.com/a/img537/3299/1e4Htg.jpg
Kittel just showed that he is the best sprinter in the field, no competition for him. Castaneda finished 15th ... not exactly great but expected.

This stage could be something for a puncheur ... but too many strong sprinters probably will lead to many teams challenging.

imageshack.com/a/img540/271/4Ol7hU.jpg
We decided to send young Cesar Augusto Lature in the breakaway, in fact the others only joined him later. And he won both Cat.2 mountain sprints which is barely enough to earn him the KOM jersey for tomorrow. Great Achievement for this young rider.

15 km to go i tried another attack by our leader Huaman ... but the peloton, or what remained of it was chasing too hard and so we had no chance for a good finish this time.

imageshack.com/a/img910/1443/1hVH8k.jpg
Offredo has been clearly the fastest followed surprisingly by Ulissi. The many small hills did put of the great sprinters a little

A pretty interesting stage today, several Cat1 KOM sprints.

Seeing the profile and that our chances for sprint or GC wins are almost non existent I decided that the KOM jersey is the most probable price to get. So we sent again Cesar Augusto Lature on the breakaway. With the first mountain sprint only 8 km from the start he attacked right away.

But what can i say? He won all KOM sprints, on the last he attacked his companions and got easily away. He gave everything and he WON the stage. unbelievable what a ride.

imageshack.com/a/img673/2376/aEMuFQ.jpg
the other guy in this picture is one lap behind by the way. We sprinted with Castaneda and achieved a 10th place with the young sprinter.

another interesting stage. We will send one rider with the breakaway - or at least try it just to ensure the KOM jersey. unfortunately Lature is not in the shape to do it himself.

Nino Corredo has been the chosen who got away with a group, he didn't go for KOM points as no rival for Lature was part of the breakaway.

The thing went interesting during the last 20 kilometres, plenty of attacks left and right and among others two well known riders got away - Adam Hansen and Dries Devenyn.

imageshack.com/a/img673/5493/WNI5BP.jpg
Three kilometres to go and our captain Piero Huaman decided this is his place to attack, and it was well timed as he did get away, caught riders in front of him and ..

imageshack.com/a/img538/8536/mBKy5a.jpg
.. no he did not win. Hansen and Devenyns were too good to get any time back on them. Hansen was the stronger in the last metres and Piero Human was able to reach 3rd place and podium. He also moved up to 4th in the GC and 1st in the young riders classement. But alas the TT remains and he is not good in the fight against the clock.

This is the next race that our sponsor wants us to participate. It suits us a little more than Besseges, though the Time Trial again might hurt us heavily. We also got press messages that absolute Top Stars will participate here. We will send a small but strong team here that has a good fitness. Our goal is a Top 10 in the GC

Captain: David Guevara
Sprinter: Juan Castaneto
Free Element: Piero Huaman
Team Mates: Alex Cano Ardila, Victor Nino Corredor, Cesar Augusto Lature

imageshack.com/a/img661/5575/CUF8RQ.jpg
The start list indeed looks devasting. Joaquin Rodriguez, Betancur, Wiggins, Rolland, Rui Costa, Tejay van Garderen, Fabio Duarte - many teams brought a great leader and good helpers along with them. Degenkolb and Rojas among others ensure great sprinters as well.

This is a very challenging race for us.

A few mountains early but probably still a sprint finish.

imageshack.com/a/img673/3759/CSOyjY.jpg
Soon after the start when the Cat.1 mountain started to climb Lature attacked, looks like he likes to wear the KOM jersey.

He was caught by the peloton when only 20 km were still to ride. Great escape once more of Cesar Augusto.

imageshack.com/a/img912/5523/jolruO.jpg
Castaneto had perfect position, but he had to accept that there are a lot of great sprinters in the field as well and did not achieve a noteworthy result. The sprint was comfortably won by Arnaud Demare. Lature did lose 5 minutes in the end, but i think this may be even an advantage if he is wanting to keep the KOM jersey as he will not be seen a danger for GC riders.

Time Trial Today ... 24.1 kilometres. We did not expect much of our team here. We had to hope Guevara is doing better than in San Luis where he lost all chances for podium in the Time Trial by losing nearly 4 minutes.

And yes it has worked better this time.

Sky dominated the Time Trial with Wiggins winning in front of Porte. Road World champion Rui Costa is still in business after finishing a good 4th. David Guevara did very good finishing 25th and only losing 33 seconds to Wiggins,

A difficult stage, many late attacks are expected. The KOM Jersey is up for grabs with so many cat2 mountains.

imageshack.com/a/img901/1958/1WQNU5.jpg
The breakaway of the day with great riders Garate Cepa, Devenyns, Mourey. Garate Cepa looks like he will have KOM jersey if he can hold on long enough.

imageshack.com/a/img673/1640/mZddsc.jpg
Lature attacked from the peloton for the last KOM points. He did succeed in a few KOM sprints doing this, but it has not been enough at the end of the day.

imageshack.com/a/img537/5317/gsfJTi.jpg
Second to last hill and Joaquin Rodriguez together with Betancur attacked. Leukemans tried to follow but couldn't do it.

imageshack.com/a/img910/7548/CSYKar.jpg
With 10 kilometres to go our captain Guevara has decided it is time to test to others. Only Rolland, Perraud and Wiggins could follow him. World Champion Rui Costa got to them shortly after

imageshack.com/a/img537/3528/MTt8hy.jpg
Carlos Alberto Betancur distanced Rodriguez finally ... and between them is finishin Dries Devenyns - great race of him. Guevara started the sprint too early and so finished only 8th - still a great result moving him up in the GC.

The Mont Faron ... this could very well make some changes in the GC. Guevara has to be full alert today.

imageshack.com/a/img913/3010/fYU7Yh.jpg
Betancur got to the breakaway with 15 km to go. There was waiting a strong teammate for him Pozzovivo.

imageshack.com/a/img905/5117/Pe6ESG.jpg
Guevara is in the chase now ... he is a little pressing too hard so he was out of power a kilometre early in the end costing him a better result.

imageshack.com/a/img673/4607/tCOztG.jpg
Betancur has been the strongest today winning ahead of Teammate Pozzovivo. Guevara finishing out of energy but still 5th, although no time advantage to the following riders.

The last stage of the tour and probably even more dangerous than Mont Faron. The last uncategoriced mountain can be a killer.

imageshack.com/a/img537/7352/ZiCYbq.jpg
This is the breakaway of the day .. Pozzato, Clement big names and Laturo on his mission to win KOM.

imageshack.com/a/img540/6677/xe6m0n.jpg
climbing the last uncategoriced high mountain the escapees still leading, Laturo cannot keep up with the other two though. meanwhile a group is attacking out of the Peloton. Betancurt, Joaquin Rodriguez, Pinot, Gasparotto and Guevara who feels in great form today.

imageshack.com/a/img661/8094/h6Ql4j.jpg
When Rodriguez and Betancurt accelarated Guevera decided he won't follow instead keep his tempo. Behind his group a group around Wiggins and Rui Costa is forming trying to move to Guevara.

imageshack.com/a/img673/1649/9xrF0J.jpg
When they reached him Guevara decided to give it all and look if it is possible, it is only one more km to the top of the mountain, and in the decent he is not worse than the others.

imageshack.com/a/img913/2496/DQbMhU.jpg
In the decent World Champion Rui Costa attacked, trying to reach Guevara.

A great stage for our team and with that we almost acheived the sponsor goal as Guevara finishes the Tour Mediterrenean as 4th in the GC. Lature with his 2nd escape stage secured KOM jersey. Looks like he is making this to a habit. I will not complain.

Tour du Haut Var

This is one of the main goals of our sponsor. We do not expect to be as good as they hope, but we will try everything. Two hard hilly stages seem to favour puncheurs.

Our team:
Leader: Piero Huaman
Free Element: Cesar Augusto Lature
Team Mates: Cano Ardila, Nino Corredor, Alcolea, Becerra

No sprinter, as we expect no sprints anyways. Neither Rujano nur Guevara take part as we think Huaman is better suited for this race. We will see.

Big names from other teams:
Nairo Quintana
Thomas Voeckler
Bradley Wiggins
Richie Porte
Thibaut Pinot
Jurgen ven den Broeck
Tejay van Garderen

and many others

The first stage is the more easy one. We expect attacks late in the race. To win the race you have to stay in contact in this stage too.

imageshack.com/a/img912/7176/AoV0rh.jpg
Our captain Piero Huaman got impatient and attacked earlier than i planned it. With 30 kilometres to go he went for it after a few attackers who had 1 minute advantage, no big names involved there. Piero would soon catch and overtake them. The peloton feared Piero and Cannondale did everything to catch him, but Piero was able to hold to a 10 second advantage for 10 kilometres when Cannondales last helper was spent. The other teams could not keep up the pressure.

imageshack.com/a/img537/1761/ER4sax.jpg
Alas one guy had other plans than let Piero win. Darryl Impey gave everything and when he caught up to Huaman, Piero had not the speed to follow, so he just continued his pace.

imageshack.com/a/img673/6376/EKKG1d.jpg
Impey won comfortably while Piero held on to a great 2nd place finish, leading the Young riders classement. He showed he has deserved to be chosen as leader.

Not much has changed in february, the teams are getting ready for the big races though.

Our races in march:
Classic Sud Ardeche
Vuelta Mexico
Tour International de Blida
Gran Premio San Giuseppe
Volta ao Alentejo

All in all those races should suit us better. The Vuelta Mexico we definetly want to win as it is another south american tour. Our sponsors get unhappy with our results though i am not disapointed about my team. Looks like we need some more wins soon. Jair Melendez is slowly coming in race shape now. He is wanted by a few other teams as it seems.

A Classic that suits us pretty good. Rujano is leading the team here.

Notable participants:
Riblon
Morabito
Le Mevel
Sorensen

Several good riders, but weaker field than i met lately

Rujano tried it, but as he was blocked on the final mountain he had no chance in the end and that resulted in a desaster for us. Adam Hansen won the race with a strong downhill attack

Vuelta Mexico[flag]MX[/flag

A tour that is one of our personal goals as it is in south america. It is a 2.2 tour so not many great riders should appear and make it more easy for us. Many flat stages, a few hilly ones and a long TT make it a good interesting tour. Not perfectly suited for us though.

Our Team
Leader: Jose Rujano
Sprinter: Castaneta
Free Element: Jair Melendez, Cano Ardila
Team Mates: Alcolea, Becerra, Medina, Lature

Other good riders:
none with a great name
