Wiggins has been talking about this race for about a year now, more or less since he made the Top 10. It's his last big goal on the road. Different to his performance at De Ronde, where he was seen several times at the back and where he probably couldn't even help even if he wanted to do so, he will be extra special motivated for Roubaix and SKY will ride for him. I see him as a contender. Especially because he has been pretty good in De Panne and he's still capable of distancing any other rider on the flat.
Hoping for a win of Vanmarcke, GVA, Stybar ooor (new addition) Tiejs Benoot.

God I hope it rains this year, or at the very least is muddy. Had too many dusty Paris-Roubaixs recently
Over a decade without rain is long enough. I like a dusty Roubaix too, but some rain and mud would be nice to keep the myth alive. Either way, I'm sure it'll be a great race after the sorta "less exciting" Ronde.

I hope it wont rain..it is hard race enough.
With rain there will be just 40-50 riders getting over the finish line |

Which would be worthy race to the name "Hell of the North".
Obviously i dont wnat to see injuries, but i miss muddy Roubaix for quite a time. That would also force the riders to actually ride the cobbles, instead of riding in roadsides, which were dry and better to ride on for several years now...

I always feel with De Ronde you have many similar races before it - Omloop, KBK, E3, Dwars, Gent - Weg, De Panne. The guys know the climbs under racing conditions quite well by the time they come to it.
Roubaix is different, certainly for debutants or even second or third timers it surely takes time to get used to it. But it is also very different cobbles and whilst guys that do well in the Belgian classics clearly do well at Roubaix, things are not quite the same.
French dudes and random guys (though this year Wiggins is not so random) with experience come into play a bit more at Roubaix. The climbs of course are not there.
Etixx triple threat or at least Terpstra and Stybar are well favoured. No reason why Kristoff shouldn't do well - the guy is in the form of his life. He should be heavily marked though. Will Etixx screw around when this wolf is with one of their men away?
I don't think Sky are going to do it - Wiggins is too powderpuff for me the slightest thing seems to get on him. No doubt the guy has serious power like Tony Martin or even Niki Terpstra for example. But he is a fusspot, things get in his head and boy I can imagine Paris Roubaix gets to your head. Thomas for me is overcooked now. Take a rest G. Stannard has not been the same since his race Omloop either.
No idea why Vanmarke was so shyte at Flanders, just out of position? - he hasn't been doing it for me. Roubaix is better for him but he aint right for me, a bit like Sagan something missing.
GVA doesn't have a super record at Roubaix but this could be a good one as long as he isn't hit with BMC hesitation bug. They are like inverse Sky they hide and hide and hide too long in these classics, then you see they have three or four guys and then are riding to catch the already gone winning move.
Lars Boom is my dark horse though. Astana winning before their arbitration thingee would be the 'winner cycling deserves' type cliche wouldn't it?

Agreed. Its downright stupid to discount Wiggins as its the only fricken race he has cared for the last year or so. I dont think he will win, but he will for sure be up there for sure |

They could just leave it, and then the riders can't hide in the gutter.

Wouldnt that be a lovely thought. Actually having the riders ride the cobbles in a cobbled race. |

Now to more serious things, i hope Å tyby will not once again play the anchor role for Terpstra and will go onthe move himself.
No chance probably that Styby will get his chance considering that terpstra is far better |

I don't see Wiggins winning himself and frankly I hope he doesn't. If If I had to bet my man would be Terpstra. With Styby in form, Etixx should be able to race with good tactics. |

I grant you that he may be better based upon results, but by a large margin, surely not. Even when Terpstra won Paris-Roubaix last year, Stybar was the better rider on the pavé. I remember him sitting on the wheel of Vanmarcke & Cancellara, playing the anchor and thus being vital for Boonen's and Terpstra's return to the front. The year before he was also the only one who held on to Cance and Vanmarcke until that crash put him out.
The only thing Stybar is lacking - in comparison to the dutch - is the tactical roughlessness of Terpstra. Whilst Terpstra isn't afraid to ride for his very own results, shown by the fact that he is often the first Etixx rider to attack, Stybar puts all too often the team ahead of him. Considering the dental problems he had to endure during De Ronde, it was alright to give Terpstra the go although various websites have claimed Stybar to be the top favourite. Despite this problems riding, Stybar still played a vital role for Terpstra, covering almost every move except for GVA/Sagan and Boom/Benoot.

I'm starting to think Vanmarcke might have completely mistimed his form peak. He was incredible in the opening weekend, did amazing things in strade bianche, but is going downhill lately.
I'm going for Vandenbergh solo win
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I would love to see that happen, from 60km out. |
