Final PT Rankings 2014

Anyway my policy of signing Jan Bakelants at all costs has paid off given we didn't get relegated

I have been wondering for the last couple of months what our season would have been like if I had managed to sign him instead of you (we had that crazy bidding war). I am pretty convinced that would have been the difference between staying up and going down. I guess sometimes those stupid high wages really are worth it. Not only that but next season you should have some extra money to play around with once you knock it off his existing wages.

Big thanks to SN and the reporters throughout this season. Particularly in the last couple of months you've kept things ticking over at a crazy rate.

Our season was obviously a huge disappointment. Just the one win to speak of and I legitimately thought that we would have a much better season than we did. I thought that a lower-level leader on all terrains and the ability to be competitive in all disciplines and on all terrains would ensure enough points to be competitive even if we didn't net enough wins. Ultimately however I think that Oleg's stats that he posted there really prove a point - you just have to have at least one really big name in order to be competitive.

I'm proud that VDB contributed to under 15% of our points and that lots of riders were at around the same mark as him, but it just meant that we didn't have a single big GC win that could have at least brought us close to Rothaus and thus close to promotion. There's a lesson to be learned there and I hope that some of the guys who are promoting remember that when constructing their team next year.

Big congratulations are due to Wikipedia, what a season. The fight between them and Vesuvio for the title in the last couple of months of racing have been intense. In fact the same can be said at the other end of the table too, you guys really showed that even over the course of a season there are still things to fight for at the end.

So planning for PCT has already started and I'm already confident that I can be a front runner to bounce right back up and that I will have a stronger team when I get back here.

So, I decided to have a quick look at the individual standings, and I've calculated the cost per point (CPP) for each rider (in terms of wages). Some fairly interesting things there, if I have the time tomorrow I'll do a full on report

Wow I knew that Zingle had a great season but I didn't realise it was that great.

Pretty cool stats from both you Crommy and Oleg, definitely very interesting.

Having Breen, Dyrnes and Bystrøm in addition to Kruijswijk in the top 50 looking at wage per point underlines the positives for me this season. Especially the three Norwegians have been great to follow, and I hope they can race similar next season, attack and race aggressive.

I feel when you look at Crommy's table removing sprinter Mohs and Chrono man Posthuma then most of those are the luck factor.

Simply Red Bull do not feature which to me shows that we didn't get a huge rub of the green. Of the better teams in the division it seems as if Wikipedia get the most luck.

Oleg's table does make interesting viewing - it does underline a long standing problem for my Red Bull teams that we have aging stars. It also highlights some of the more one dimensional teams like Trofitink and P(luichkin) & O.

I think it is a decent educational tool for the promoting teams - no big scorer and it is really difficult Pendletons break the mold a bit but VW, Rothaus, ING and Bpost just didn't have that heavy hitter. VW survive but will be scratching around for something special in transfers.

At the top end Phinney > Schleck by 300ish and those lucky points from Crommy's table was part of the reason why Wiki outscored Vesuvio.

Great stats from OlegT & Crommy, certainly making me re-evaluate some of my assumptions about the relative strengths of certain PT teams.

Worst season to date for me in the Pro Tour and also Gesink's worst season with the team. I'm pretty sure those two are connected.

Congrats, dave! Really sad to see roturn back in the 2nd division, but I'm sure he will be back in no time.

Thanks to everyone involved in running this season of the ManGame!

I'm sorry to see some of these teams were relegated, especially Prio-Porto would have been very beneficial for both if it had been possible to remain in the PT.

Thanks to all, who supported me.

It was a nice experience in PT even though I was not expecting to promote already last season. So in the end I wanted to be PT in 2015 and was a year too quick. This now results in going down again and hopefully seeing me back in 2016.
That said, my team is far from the development as other teams like Quickstep, Volkswagen, Becherovka or Puma. So I will have a lot of things to do in the next 2 off seasons to avoid being a up and down team in future.

Keeping the young core like Keizer, Olivier, Vanmarcke, Schädlich or even Nizzolo/Krieger who could see some training in the future, I think I have at least something to start with.

Congrats to dave, SN and rjc. What a special year for all of them. I am really happy with my final 4th place as well, really didn't expect it already this year, as I was more focused the last transfer window on the future.

Nice to see 2 teams with Czech managers in top 5, Aker with solid 8th even EBH didn't have the season I expected, Festina at least 10th, good for them to achieve at least one of their goals. I am sad for Roturn, Gustavovskiy and CountArach to go down, hopefully we will meet soon in PT again.

Nice to see additional stats from the season, big thanks to Oleg and Crommy. I am quite surprised that Polnicky and Stybar were so efficient for me. Rujano and König not so much. Gives me some serious thinking before the next season.

We only break the mould because I'm such a tight bastard.

Fairly consistent if unspectacular season from us. Paris-Nice win was nice but otherwie lacking standouts [unsurprisingly]. Shame to lose some really good participants from the PT, hope to see them back here soon enough. Thanks to all reporters and helpers for their work and of course to SN in particular.

First off, all thanks to the reporters who make this game happen. Its said many times, but the time put in there is worthy of praise everytime.

Huge congrats to SN, you have really poured yourself into this game and it was a fantastic fight for the title. To finish in the top 3 with you and RJC is quite an honor. Speaking of which, Good Energy were the team of the season in my books, really maturing to assert themselves in the PT as not many of us would have predicted.

Throughout the table, a lot of interesting battles, but I have to echo everything that was said of Heine and Roturn. Fantastic managers and teams, sad one had to go.

Just a quick reply to say thank you to all the reporters and everyone else involved. And perhaps more importantly to say that I'm sorry for not having been more active this season. I hope and plan to be more around next season.
