January Review

After rushed preparations we started our season in South Australia for the Tour Down Under.

Stage 1 was a flat stage with a hill near to the end. Our main lead-out suffered during the last 15kms and Heino was left on his own, with many metres to gain on his competitors. Despite this he finished well in 6th.

Stage 2 had more action in terms of the race and for us, Marcel Aregger was part of the BotD. After they were caught there we a few attacks on the hilly run-in. Heino did manage to hold on for a ninth after suffering in the last 5km.

Stage 3 was the tough Mount Corkscrew stage, Heinrich made the main pack but missed the attacks, he sprinted well though, for a second in the bunch and 19th in the stage.

Stage 4 was again taken by the break, luckily today we were represented in the winning group, Martin Elmiger, himself a former GC winner here, sprinting to fourth.
Heino took 8th in the bunch for 16th on the day.

The Willunga Hill Stage 5 was next, and though GC hope Stefan Denifl had now lost too much time we hoped to salvage something. In the end we were powerless, but Denifl did take 23rd on the stage in the main pack after a good helping from Martin and Heino. Heino staying in the pack also meant he kept a top 25 GC spot.

The criterium Stage 6 rounded out the race, it was a hectic day, we put Martin in the break again and in the end Heinrich made the cut, moving up to 18th GC but only taking 23rd after being blocked in.

Mildly disappointing start to the season but an unseen startlist meant it wasn't to be expected, the teamwork and IAM fighting spirit shone through with 3/6 breaks.

Rider of the Month: Heinrich Haussler because of his sterling performances in a tough field.

Breaking: Young Dutchman Signs!

We can exclusively reveal that the young prospect Jan Kaas has officially transferred to IAM Cycling starting in the next season part. The 18-year-old is considered to be a very complete all-around rider with plenty of room to grow, especially strong over the cobblestones.

'We liked what we saw from his first few months as a pro at AG2R and we are glad to have him with us as one of our brightest young prospects,' said GM Jackson Hughes, 'I hope he fits in well here and continues his fine form and development.'

Young Track Star Puts Pen to Paper!

Following on from the acquisition of Jan Kaas, another coup as track sprinter turned pro cyclist joins from Drapac. We are pleased to confirm that Matt Leigh will be riding for IAM as a leader on the flats from after the Continental Championships.

'To acquire such a strong sprinter and hot prospect is a real coup, we hope to give him much support as one of our leaders. It took a while to convince him and his agent but in the end he out pen to paper and will now ride at IAM Cycling.' announced GM Jackson Hughes last night. 'We hope he can bring us immediate results and continue his development, wherever that may take him.'

Future GT man in the mix with IAM!

We are delighted to confirm our leader for stage races, especially the week-long tours, Austin Ferrari. The Kiwi excells equally in time trials and mountains and is our leader for both.

'We are delighted to capture a class GC man like Austin, he can lead us to glory starting right now!' came the excited and optimistic tones of countryman and GM Jackson Hughes.

Time Trial Specialist Makes The Right Choice!

Jay Chahuzedia, a rising EPIC star who hails from El Salvador has joined IAM beginning after the Continental Championships.

'He can work hard for any sprinters or mountain men but he comes into his own on a time trial bike,' declared Jackson Hughes, 'His recuperation skills as well as his ability uphill mean we hope he can win time trials anywhere in a state race, and even take yellow and keep it for a while in future prologues.'

Call to EPIC talents!

Now we can confirm our schedule, we'd like to know any preferred races for our young stars. Obviously we have a range of prestigious and lower-lever races and we would love your input as well as an introduction from you all when you can find the time.

Man off the Mountains Makes La Best(ia) decision!

Young Climber Matteo La Bestia has joined us for the rest of the season. The 22-year-old will lead in the mountains. He's determined and chomping at the bit to pull on the leader's armband. We hope he brings us good results and enjoys being in the squad!

EPIC Riders Provisional Schedules Announced

We can now present to you all your provisional calendars from now until the National Championships. We would appreciate input and if none is riven by the end of the week we will assume you are happy with given races. Sorry for the short timeframe but the EPICUCI wants to get this show on the road.

Jan Kaas will dabble in domestique duties with his all-around skills, he will race De Ronde, Roubaix and Brabantse before riding some stage races, Turkey, Dunkerque and Bayern.

Matt Leigh will unfortunately not be riding much for neo due to our calendar not being geared towards his kind of races because we had no idea he was coming, Turkey, California and Bayern should give him ample opportunity to prove himself a leader as well as leave him plenty of race days left for Part 3.

Jay Chahuzedia will be a great asset for leaders in stage races where he can also breakaway or compete for stage honours in the time trials. He's going to Dunkerque, Bayern, Luxembourg and Suisse.

Austin Ferrari will get time to prove why he is a leader for us, he will go to all of these events as leader or co-leader: Pais Vasco, Ardennes, Romandie, California and Suisse.

Matteo La Bestia will have a quieter season part in anticipation of Le Tour but will also leader or wherever he goes, Trentino and Dauphine. We were only wondering if he wanted to co-lead (with Ferrari and Denifl) in Amstel and Liege, as he misses Fleche due to Trentino.

Austin Ferrari

Hi guys, I'm Austin Ferrari and I'm from a station in Southland, New Zealand. I'm a budding stage racer and I love climbing and time trialling. I'm hugely excited about making my pro break with IAM.

Looking at the calendar given, I have no qualms with it, I won't let you down on the goals you want me to achieve in those races and look forward to challenging myself with the best!

Jay Chahuzedia

Hola amigos, I'm Jay Chahuzedia from El Salvador, but I "moved" to Britain when I was seven. There I started doing many 10 mile time trials and I loved them. Just flying solo, absolutely massacring myself and trying to set the fastest time against others. It's such a pure discipline. I also love climbing and setting high pace in big groups for my leaders in tough stages.

I'm honored by this schedule, the only thing that could be changed is in the Criterium du Dauphine there is a prologue, but not Luxembourg or Suisse. Up to you though boss!

Thanks to Heino's bronze in the Aufrazian Road Race (more on that later) we had money to send another EPIC rider to our sprinter's camp. The lucky man is actually Austin Ferrari, with a much needed Acceleration 60>61 We implore him to keep working on this himself as well.

Continental Championships

Hello and welcome to our quick round-up of the Continental Championships, where we had varying degrees of involvement. We entered in the European and Aufrazian champs for both disciplines.

The Time Trials were utter crap.

In the Ausfrazian Road Race we had but one man, but no matter what never count out Heinrich Haussler. He kept to himself in the pack the whole day and despite starting 20 riders back he had one of the best sprints in the bunch and flew up to third place. A very good solo performance but unfortunately we were left wondering what might have been if he started with some teammates and was better positioned.

Despite the fact that Matteo Pelucchi managed to get himself dropped even in Qatar (even on a day with not much wind) so we really had no hope, our European Road Race had a shining start in somebody who has also disappointed this season, Stefan Denifl. He made the early breakaway and was on the offensive all day, even when the gap was reducing fast he attacked his breakaway companions. He was the last man swept up.

Note To EPIC Riders

Could Matt Leigh, Matteo La Bestia and Jan Kaas please leave me their race days from their old teams this year.

Early April Preview

We head into our second season part with fresh legs and fresh mindset. Finally bolstering ourselves with some transfers and all the wildcards the UCI have granted us mean it's make or break to a) score some points b) actually win a race c) more breakaways and d) kick some ass.

Ronde van Vlaanderen

Our second monument is upon us shorty, and we've got a similar cobbled line-up to before, but with Dutch wonderkid Jan Kaas in to the mix. Heinrich has had some on/off form on the cobbles so far this year but we hope to rectify that.

Race Goal/Season Goal: Top 10

Heinrich Haussler
Marco Bandiera
Martin Elmiger
Sèbastien Hinault
Kevyn Ista
Jan Kaas
Gustav Erik Larsson
Alexseje Saramotins

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco

The first test for new GC man Austin Ferrari is upon us, with the six day stage race Vuelta al Pais Vasco. We're hoping he can do us proud with a good GC place despite it being by more of a punchy race.

Goal: Top 15 GC

Austin Ferrari
Marcel Aregger
Rèmi Cusin
Jonathan Fumeaux
Pirmin Lang
Thomas Löfkvist
Alexandre PliuÅŸchin
Johann Tschopp

Paris-Roubaix

The Hell of the North. The Highway to Hell. Whichever name you pick, they often have hell in them. These eight brave men will venture forth just a week after racing the Ronde.

Goal: Top 15

Heinrich Haussler
Marco Bandiera
Martin Elmiger
Sèbastien Hinault
Kevyn Ista
Jan Kaas
Gustav Erik Larsson
Alexseje Saramotins

Matteo La Bestia
Hey guys, I'm Matteo. You probably know me because I've been an Omega boy in the past, and you probably also know that it's quite some weeks that I've moved to IAM already! I'm pleased to meet many guys that can speak my language in the team as I really struggle with English. I look forward to win something to this team!

I'm really ok with the races I'm going to take part to, I think that the manager of the team was very responsive and helped me throughout the whole process as I'm not really good at planning what to do with my energies!

Wish me good luck,
Matteo.

Jan Kaas
Hey boyz,
Just like Matteo I come from another team but the manager of this great team badly wanted me so I decided to take the step and move to a lower category. I know that you are wondering why, but I did it because the guys around me promised me that I would be a big part of this ever growing project. Hopefully I'll make myself a name in the allrounders club, but at the moment I'm more of a cobbler and I'll be one of the domestiques in the infamous hell of the north that Paris-Roubaix is.

Obviously I love my schedule, I think that it fits perfectly well the kind of rider that I am, I think it's just like I'd plan my season, so huge props to the manager!

Hope I'll have a good season,
Jan.

Hi Matteo,
Thanks for introducing yourself to our fans, I'm sure they'll all be behind you in your ventures for us. I'm very happy you liked your schedule and we know you'll prove why you're one of the World's best climbers in our home race in Suisse and yours in Trentino. Also, unless you object you will ride Amstel and Liege on either side of that.

Also we were wondering if you wanted to ride Le Tour as a leader. You'd have half the team supporting you specifically and the others will race for you when they aren't leading out Heino. We know you are still working on your second and third weeks but many breakaways and maybe a stage could be possible. KoM and decent white jersey seem possible too.

Thanks,
JH

Hey Jan,
Good to see you found our HQ, and we're happy you like your calendar. You're a great asset to have on the team and I know you have already been mixing with the cobbles squad in Belgium

Best of luck for the upcoming classics,
JH

Looks like I have been asked if I wanted to ride the Tour as a leader: well my answer is YEEEEEEESSSSS! I didn't know that my first season could be THAT exciting and it surely will help me making experience. I can't wait, really. I'd like to thank the manager for this great opportunity, joining IAM was my best choice ever Grin

Ciao,
Matteo.
