Paris – Camembert Lepetit
After a good training in Italy I felt quite good, but I was coming into the race with mixed feelings, because it was a while from my last race.
Since the start I was sitting somewhere in the middle and I was waiting, the tempo was okay, and my legs were slowly going better and better. The four rider were in front and the pack gave them good advantage, the max was about 8'30''. The WorldTour teams were very active in the chasing the leaders, especially Tinkoff-Saxo, Giant and Movistar. So it looked like no chance for the leading group...
As we were 30 kms from the finish the first attacks came from the pack – the veteran Davide Rebellin started it all. He was followed by Rob Ruijgh, Cyril Gautier and new Colombian champion Pantano. But the hard work on front of the pack, especially from Tinkoff-Saxo, didn't give them a lot of chances.
My teammate Adrien van der Brande, who was in the break from the start, left his companions and went solo 25 kms before the finish. He had an advantage about 1'30'', but Geschke and Barguil (both Giant) went for a few attacks and suddenly we were just behind Adrien.
12 kms before the finish I counter after Rojas and Barguil, but hte pack was still just a second behind us. Going down to the finishing street I stayed in the front alone, I was a bit surprised with that, but I went full gas with the pack 20'' behind.
Unfortunately I was catch under flame rouge and outsprinted by the pack. José Joaquin Rojas has won ahead of Simone Ponzi and Simon Geschke.

GP Denain Porte du Hainaut
After Paris – Camembert Lepetit I had another one-day race in France in my plans before Tour de Bratagne. This race was good especially for the sprinters, for me it was just about safe riding in the pack without any extensions...
After my active performance in Paris-Camembert Lepetit race, I wanted to take this easy and without any problems. It was quite cold and wind was blowing very much, so the conditions which I still don't like too much.
The tempo in the pack was controlled by Movistar and with just 3 riders in the breakaway their job looked easy. As the stage was going on, Movistar got a help from FDJ and Androni so for the leaders just the minutes which left were counted. They were caught 10 kms before the finish.
But at the end the effort put in by Movistar wasn't pay back by their sprinter and Adrien Petit from Cofidis took the win.

Tour de Bretagne After some one-day races in France we moved to Bretagne for one-week long stage race.
The first two stages were for sprinters so I was looking for stage 3 with it's profile similar to some ardennes classics.
And then my time hopefully will come at Stage 6 with the finish on the top of the mountain.
I hope my legs will be good and I could make some good result here!
As I said the first two stages were good for sprinters.
The first stage was mostly controlled by Cofidis team and their sprinting ace Adrien Petit. He payed back all the work to his team by his win!
In the Stage 2 it was again on Cofidis to make the pace and lead the pack into the mass sprint finish, and again the stage was win by Adrien Petit! He was really in great form!
This stage was a great test for everyone who looked for an overall classification with its profile. I wanted to tried some move, because there aren't too much stages where is the possibility of getting some time. And I was feeling good the days before!
The stage started in a high pace, because a lot of riders saw that like a opportunity to be in successful breakaway, so it was hard from the first metres.
At the end, the breakaway has been made and 3 riders were here. Cofidis slowed down and gave them quite luxury advantage, but as we were going close to the finish they started pushing hard at the front of the pack.
With about 30 kms to go, there was only one rider in the front with 1'30'' gap so his journey was going to the end.
I was nervously riding my bike near to the front and waiting for the right moment to attack. I thought it was somewhere about the mark of 20 kms and I attacked!
After a while I recognised it did a great job, I was just with Julien Simon (Cofidis) and some seconds behind there were a small group of 7 riders, the pack had the gap about 1'!
At the mark of 10 kms I was in the group of 10 riders about 1'30'' ahead, and we were fighting for the stage and also for the leader's jersey!
As the last wall came J.J. Cobo (Torku Seker Spor) attacked and he was followed only by me, Simon and Mathieu van der Poel (BKCP) and we were going to the finishing line in four.
In the finish Julien Simon was the strongest and beat us, I came on the 4 th place. I was quiet satisfied with the results, this stage made some gaps in the rankings and one hard stage left! 1 | Julien Simon | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | 4h53'50 | 2 | Mathieu van der Poel | BKCP - Powerplus | s.t. | 3 | Juan José Cobo Acebo | Torku Seker Spor | s.t. | 4 | Mario Rizzi | Leopard Development Team | s.t. | 5 | Artem Topchanyuk | Amore & Vita | + 1'16 | 6 | Egoitz Garcia Etxegibel | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. | 7 | Frédéric Amorison | Wallonie - Bruxelles | s.t. | 8 | Julien El Fares | La Pomme Marseille | s.t. | 9 | Arkaitz Durán Aroca | OFM - Quinta da Lixa | s.t. | 10 | Brice Feillu | Bretagne - Séché Environnement | s.t. |

Tour de Breatagne
After 3rd stage, where the battle for overall started there are another two stages good for sprinters!
Anyway, in the Stage 4 there were some climbs, but it didn't make anything interesting and the pack, with Cofidis leading, was going to the sprint finale. And again Adrien Petit was here with Julien Simon gave him such an amazing out-lead that he came for 2nd and some bonus seconds! So Cofidis with 1-2 in that stage...
After Petit's three victories here, nobody wanted to help Cofidis in the chasing in Stage 5, so the 5 riders in the front were coming to the fight for victory. And Martin Bina (Kwadro-Stannah) was the strongest and took the victory, we came 2'07'' after him and everybody had his mind thinking about tomorrow's stage, okay maybe not everyone, but at least I was thinking about it!
On that profile I was really motivated to prove my abilities in this terrain! I was feeling very good since the stage began, so my team-mates were making adequate pace for me. We let 5 riders into a break, but the gap was holding.
As we came under the finish hill, where we had to make three rounds some attacks came from the pack but we catch them during the first descent. As we came for the second round I tried to accelerate the tempo a bit, but Cofidis was prepared in the front.
And before the last ascent there were still about 80 riders in the pack... About 7 kms to go, I tried accelerate once again and there remained about 30 riders in the front.
With 3 kms to go Brice Feillu (Bretagne) attacked, but I was ready and followed him!
We made a small gap on the pack and we were heading the finish together. And I was stronger in the final, beating him in the final 300 metres and I could put my hands up celebrating my first career victory! It was really great feeling!
And when I was standing on the podium, it was even better

Tour de Bretagne
The last stage is here and it's again for the sprinters. I was talking with my DS before the stage about the strategy, , because of bonification seconds in the intermediate sprint. I was sitting on 2nd only 5'' behind the leader Julien Simon and we wanted to try get some seconds to beat him!
So as the race started my team-mates occupied the front and didn't let anyone to the breakaway!
The intermediate sprint wasn't too far from the start so we wanted to come here together and I had to tried get some seconds.
The sprint came and I thought I'm going for the seconds easily, because nobody from Cofidis was there, but Serge Pauwels (Sunweb)
incomprehensibly fight for it and beat me. I was surprised why he fought for it...
So after that I got only 4'' bonus seconds and I was really angry.
I came through the remaining kms without any intention, because I knew I lost this race by only 1''...

GP de Plumelec
After nearly a month just training I was finally involved in a race! I liked the profile, but I didn't know how I will be feeling during the race and how my legs will react on a race pace...
After a while after the start the breakaway was made by three riders. But in the pack a lot of teams were involved in the chasing and the high tempo made it hard for everyone.
About 20 kms before the finish the leaders were caught, but nobody was going to attack from the favourites. On the 15 kms mark the first attack came from the duo of Ag2r - Blel Kadri and Christophe Riblon.
But the other riders were following them - Arashiro (Europcar), Bakelants (OPQS) and Geniez (FDJ) were all there.
About 10 kms before the finish Arashiro tried to go solo.
But he wasn't successful and Geniez, who looked strongest in the group catched him and let him behind.
He also survived the late attack on the last hill by Andrey Amador and came solo to the finish. Behind them I was fighting for other places, I was following Nikias Arndt (Giant), who came 3rd and I was on solid 5th place after the fast uphill finish! I was satisfied with my result and also my condition looked good!
1 | Alexandre Geniez | FDJ.fr | 4h22'26 | 2 | Andrey Amador | Movistar Team | s.t. | 3 | Nikias Arndt | Giant - Shimano | s.t. | 4 | Yonathan Monsalve | Neri Sottoli - Alé | s.t. | 5 | Mario Rizzi | Leopard Development Team | s.t. | 6 | Robinson Chalapud | Colombia | s.t. | 7 | Rafael Andriato | Neri Sottoli - Alé | s.t. | 8 | Ben Gastauer | Ag2r - La Mondiale | s.t. | 9 | Yury Trofimov | Katusha Team | s.t. | 10 | Igor Anton | Movistar Team | s.t. |

Boucles de l'Aulne
After my yesterday's 5th place I wanted to go higher today! The profile of this race looked good also, and I felt my form is very good and also timed well for Tour de Luxemboug!
After win of Geniez in GP de Plumelec, FDJ occupied the front of the pack and with the help of OPQS were leading the pack behind the 3 riders in front.
When just 30 kms remain Orica came to the front and made the pace so hard so the attack didn't come until 16 kms to go. And it was my move!
Orica was still leading the pack, but I was riding good, they couldn't chase me down. About 10 kms before the finish Geniez (FDJ) attacked and joined me after a while.
We were making good relays and the pack wasn't working together at that time, so we were getting some time on them!
We were heading towards the last KM together with Geniez, but Samuel William (NFTO), who was in original breakaway, was still ahead of us... About 800 metres to go I attacked on Geniez!
But I was unable to catch Williams, so I came on the 2nd place...
1 | Samuel Williams | NFTO | 4h19'26 | 2 | Mario Rizzi | Leopard Development Team | + 26 | 3 | Alexandre Geniez | FDJ.fr | + 45 | 4 | Michael Matthews | Orica - GreenEDGE | + 1'12 | 5 | Nikias Arndt | Giant - Shimano | s.t. | 6 | Julian Arredondo | Trek Factory Racing | + 1'29 | 7 | Ben Gastauer | Ag2r - La Mondiale | s.t. | 8 | Pavel Kochetkov | Katusha Team | s.t. | 9 | Lloyd Mondory | Ag2r - La Mondiale | s.t. | 10 | Bob Jungels | Trek Factory Racing | s.t. |
See you soon from Luxembourg!
