Chapter 4 - Junior Farewell
''Pace, more pace!'' I shouted as Scott starting taking the lead in the front group, just 5 km's left. Scott Riggs was his name, born and raised in Canada, however moved to North Yankton when he was 16. Just like me Scott had been cycling since kid, and we have always been like butter and bread. We passed the 4 km mark, Scott fell back as I attacked. No one from the 7-man group could follow, no one had the pace, neither did they have the powers. I dindt even look back, I just kept setting pace and putting more and more seconds between me and the others. As I crossed the finish line with both arms in the air I realised that it would be a while before I was gonna celebrate a victory again, the junior days was over.
The Mayor was at the the race, The Yankton Race, a race consisting of 80km's, and he was also the one handing me the trophy after my victory, it wasnt the first time he gave the awards, last year he also handed me my bronze medal, for finishing 3rd as you can guess. When I came home I placed the small trophy on my shelf, along with the other prices and medals from my junior time. This was the last time I would be placing on this shelf, from now it was the big boys I was riding with.

Chapter 5 - Long Road Ahead
With less than a month until the teams first race begins in Australia we started our training camp. We started the camp in Strasbourg, and then drove east. The first day consisted of ''only'' 110 km, not that much for the others but for me it was a damn long route, not that I had too much of a struggle.
Not only was the camp about getting us in shape, but also to get some pictures for the medias. ''There is no such thing as bad publicity!'' I was always told in College, guess that counted for cycling aswell. It was nice getting to know the team, specially Ryder was a great lad, we had some funny conversations on the route and had a great time. It was great to see me and the other guys on the frontpage of ESPN the following day.

Cycling on ESPN? And frontpage no less? Are we in an alternate universe? |

Chapter 6 - Wasted warmup
As Tour Down Under drew closer and was only 2 weeks away I got a call from Jonathan Vaughters, the Garmin-Sharp manager, who told me I wasnt gonna ride the australian race. ''You will get your chances in some of the upcoming races, but for Tour Down Under you wont be included. Take this as motivation to work harder so you will be included next time.''
What a load of bullshit I thought.
I felt I was in the best shape of my life, the fitness program we had on Garmin ensured my body was fit and ready to race, i felt I could have really showed myself in the Tour Down Under. However I had to accept that this was the life of a neoprof, wether I liked it or not, I had to keep working and impress the Garmin staff.
While the selected riders we're probably home packing for the trip down under i drove a little through the streets of Yankton. At a cross where I would usually go left I continued forward and reached some of the outer Yankton shortly after. Unfortunately, it was a turn for the worse...

Uhhh. I believe there is already a story that has the name of the rider, then a dash, then their nationality and "Pride"

Chapter 7 - A twist of tales
In the very moment I dont remember much of what happened, what I do remember is the hit, BOM, and I was airbourne. The next seconds felt like hours, as I tried to get an idea of what happened, the last thing I saw was a man leaving his car walking towards me, then I passed out.
I woke up in a white room, with 3 doctors around me. ''He's awake!'' one of the lady doctors yelled out, and yes I was indeed awake. ''What... What happened?'' i managed to spit while I realised how bad my left leg was feeling. ''Traffic accident, a car crossed for red and hit you. You should be grateful that it is only a fractured tibia.'' An older doctor replied. ''A fractured tibia! No, it cant be, im a cyclist I need to be able to ride!'' I bursted out, while keeping the pain in. ''Steady now cowboy'' It was the old doctor speaking again. ''There is no major damage, but you wont be able to fully walk or cycle for 3 months, atleast.''
''3 MONTHS?''
''Atleast, now get some rest, your parents are in the wait room, you had them worried.''
After speaking with my parents I got a call from Jonathan, my manager, he had heard about the accident from my parents. ''Well atleast there is no major damage and youre alive, thats the most important. However this will most likely mean you wont be riding any races untill the end of april, also we have to get you back in form once the leg is good again.''
''Great, just fucking great.'' I sweared out loud, in the empty room. I started thinking, about my career, my accident almost cost me my career as cyclist, as the doctor said ''Its almost a miracle alone that youre alive.'' I hardly remember what happened, but what had happened was the least of my worries now. I was more afraid of my career never becoming an actual career.
