I think Ponzi winning would be a bit of an upset for the other managers, but it's something I'd certainly take!
I'm hoping my strength in depth pays dividends again.
Plus, all Italian squad! Woop!

Strong and surprising performance by Kip, I hope he can play a part in stage 3 and 5 since our only hope here is the sprints/possible breakaways.

Crushing from Cancellara, though, it was indeed expected. Pretty good start from Boasson Hagen, and as you wrote, roturn, I really hope this race is the turning point for us. It will be very interesting to see how the next stage plays out, as there's no time to rest for the overall contenders, going straight to the hills. Hopefully Boasson Hagen will be alert to the attacks and not see himself gapped like in China. |

I had hoped for a top3. Had expected to come in 4th due to the Italian bonus for Malori and Viviani. In the end 2nd with Boom was the maximum and a very nice result. Cancellara not to beat.
Obvious win in that startlist.
And Rothaus - Aegon is having their first ever PT podium! Really happy that one of our first leaders in Lars Boom takes it.
Roux losing quite a lot time though is not ideal.
@rycadinho: I was surprised as well, which was the reason for missing him...sorry for that. unfortunately no replay in ITT`s.

Seeing Roux position I don't think so
Really wonder if with the yellow jersey bonus how long can Cance hold out. He should be able to do relatively well here.

Pretty good stage for 1t4i.
Looks like Rijntjes really enjoys riding in the PT

Nothing as expected and I'm glad to see Van der Hugenhaben is in amongst most of the puncheurs.
Congrats to Smowz. You have really done a great job with Cancellara's race planning in the last couple of seasons.

Top 10s for Vandborg and Sagan, and a nice start for Guldhammer. Decent indeed

Hussein 16th, Rijntjes 6th Great stuff from them.
Decent start for Ben Nasser, not being the worst of the contenders. Nothing too bad for his GC chances. |

and why not though as said throughout report anything but win would have been disappointing.
Viviani a slight disappointment, but certainly no complaints from me there. Fab does have decent support so it is possible we could hold it together, but I think somebody will nip up the road on stage 2.
If cance keeps jersey till stage 4 I would be very happy of course!
@Count: I just didn't fancy going up against the team time trial Fest at Paris Nice, so I split Coppel and Cancellara over here and Volta. We will see if season goes well in cobbles for him though.

Good start by Valverde. Now time to get some revenge on mr. reporter who calls him "aging" despite being as good as ever |

Good start here. Boom unfortunately did stay in the peloton, which is probably fine with 75 hill only. Roux though did attack and found a nice group. In the end I was very surprised that he was ahead of Ginanni, von der Hugenhaben or Pozzato.
So he is in a good position for a top15-20 fight, while the top riders already got a gap to other favourites.
Congrats to Good Energy. This was a nice win here.
@CT: 10th is solid, true. But together with the younger Sagan, Van Garderen and Roux.
Sinkewitz as 7th though makes it a good start for you with a successful duo.

Prevar scored KoM points!
Hope he'll do the same thing Topchanyuk did last year and get close to stage win... (Or win a stage )

A bit disappointed that VdHH lost some time on the final run in. Still he isn't far off the top ten and hopefully some of the tougher stages will be better for him.
Great win for Ponzi.

Woop!
That's epic. Revenge on Cunego for previous races in seasons gone by.
Now to see if we can defend the whole way till the end!

Awesome stage - PCM13 showing its superior AI.
Nice showing of the Vueling boys. Shame that Sinkewitz couldn't keep up in the end, but difficult to expect much more than a 7th and 10th. |

Great to see how that played out, nicely reported roturn. Plenty of attacks, and plenty of gaps. 5th is very good for Schleck - he tried to win it by following Bakelants, and at the end did enough to limit losses on the part where he is weakest. It is already a useful gap to those behind him in GC, and he is still right in the battle for victory. Congrats to rjc too, Ponzi would be my preferred winner if Schleck can't!
