I fear the distance is a bit too long for Slagter in the AGR. I hope he proves me wrong though.

I'm not sure about Slagter. He might be able to handle the distance, but hasn't proven he can. We'll just see, at least I'm cheering for him

How so?

Martin never liked Amstel, he doesn't have any good results in Amstel, plus Amstel is not selective enough. It will come down too a small group sprint and Slagter clearly has the better sprint of the two. As well as, a very good shape at the moment which we are not sure yet about Martin.

True but when has Slagter ever proven himself in the Ardennes? He's placed a couple of smaller races but his best result in the Ardennes was 14th in Fleche. All of his good wins have been in stages of week longers, not long classics. Not sure he's proven he's a better option to make it into the final selection given the length of the race.
I guess we'll see come Sunday.

Well, it's clear that Slagter took a big step in his development since the last Ardennes. So honestly, nobody knows... But at least his form is great, probably better than Martin's, but yeah, we can't know, we'll see Sunday indeed.

Well its time to prove himself then Time to show he can become a very good classics rider and show he can handle the distance.
Anyway, I am sure they will see which one of them feels better during the race and decide mid way through the race which one should help the other.

I like you a lot
I think Gallopin could get a top 10 with some luck on this course |

What about the norwegians?
I'm not sure if they compete, but Nordhaug is a great climber, and i see someone here makes matthews as a outsider if it gets to a bunch, here i also will name Boasson Hagen, he said earlier this week that he is in grat shape and if i gets the opportunity and still is in the bunch, he could win the sprint Don't you think?
Desite Nordhaug, it could be a wrong race for him maybe Liege and Fleche Wallone is better?

I hope Poels, but I think someone like Gilbert will win. Really hard to say who'll win though, if not impossible. Like 20 candidates for the win... |

Don't start me on EBH
Of wait you just did,
The last time ebh had a really good result was the 2012 WRCC
Last year he didn't finish Amstel and didn't finish Milan sanremo
This year his best quality finish was 3 at omloop literally he's had as good of a cobbled classics season as gallopin this year.
And sorry if I don't consider his tour of Norway win "big" seriously no one cared about that race except him
*end rant* |

I wouldn't be surprised to see Poels podium one of the Ardennes. His form is stellar. With lots of luck he may even win one. Maybe not AGR, but Fleche Wallone may suit him better? (Not excatly sure what kind of climbs are best for him).

He was 3rd on the Angliru ones so it's safe to say steep is what suits him better, so Fleche will suit him better I think. His perfomance in Vasco and Brabantse Pijl was promising. |

well i now Glava ToN is not that big, but for us norwegian it is kinda big (of course can't compare ToN with races in World tour) Anyway i know he does not have the good results for a coupple of years, but thats because he had preperation with interruption like injury, sickness and go on. This year he has avoided this injuries. Thats why i asked, if there is anyone who have seen him as a potential outsider for top 5-10.
Totally i might have the same oppinion as you that EBH doesn't have it. |

I suppose Nordhaug will be a helper for Mollema. EBH can't do this stuff, and obviously, Kristoff can't either.

Well, I'd think the longer climbs like Huy and the climbs in LBL suit Poels better than the really short ones in AGR, where acceleration is more important. There's a chance AGR will finish in a group sprint, where Poels normally wouldn't stand a chance.
I think Flèche Wallonne/Mur de Huy suits him best. He's shown before he's good on really steep climbs like Angliru and other climbs in Italy and Spain. |

I think EBH can do this on a good day, but I doubt he has the form. In AGR the climbs are pretty short so there's a chance he survives to sprint for the win. |

So I took a look at the start list and started writing down names of riders to look out to coming sunday. Big question mark is Betancur, since he has been ill. Seeing as how easily sprinters like Matthews and Swift have been climbing recently I figure they have a decent shot at this.
Three stars are absolute favourites for this race.
Two stars represent riders who have shown great form and are able to win races.
One star represent riders who can surprise on a good day.
I thought I'd share it with you to see what you guys think.
