Early reports from Sporza suggesting Vanbilsen and Asbroeck going to Lotto next year is a done deal.

More or less confirms he won't be signing with Sky. Very PR stuff there as the simple truth is that Sky are 'fed up' with him not delivering in the classics.
The question is, who will be replacing EBH? I know Bouhanni was bit unhappy at FDJ with selections. Could be an option.

They will now dominate the future classics

How did I miss this?! Oh man, I'm so excited. Both absolutely huge talents who have already shown they can be competitive at this level.
Lotto is far and away the most interesting team at the moment.

With Vanbilsen, Van Asbroeck, Gallopin and (perhaps) De Bie, Lotto is definitely building for a nice future! |

Lotto is going to be really good in a couple years with them. They've already shown that they aren't flops, but I worry about their abilities outside of classics. VdB is nothing anymore, Greipel still has four or five years left, and they have nobody to really go for anything but the cobbles.

Depending on Vanbilsen and Gallopin's development, that is.
Both have proved potential on hilly terrain, too.
But those are classics again.
Wellens and De Clercq are not so bad in stage races, but not prima donna either.
Don't write off VdB. Without that fall last year, he might've made the podium in the Tour last year, or at least another top 5.

Wellens is really promising and seems to be gradually getting stronger.
My issue with their future is money - they have a constant stream of revenue from the Belgian Lotto but their budget is still going to be much lower than many of the other big squads - they will just bleed talent to the bigger squads, in the same way as Cannondale are.

Very good signing from Lotto. They need it very hard.
Greipel is actually the only top rider they have, and he's 31, he will last 4-5 at best as a good sprinter.
Henderson is clearly ripe for retirement, they should look for another good sprinter who doesn't mind being a lead out (like OPQS and Petachi, but preferably less old).
Roelandts is great but lacks the speed for leading out Greipel in really big races (a sprint in Oman or TDU is something different than T-A or the Tour). And he doesn't seem to be able to handle the pressure of being leader in the cobbled classics. He either falls or is bad placed, apart from his RvV podium he hasn't done anything good in the classics the last years.
Dehaes is good for races as Nokere Koerse or Tour de Wallonie, but not for WT level.
Vanendert just doesn't get to the same level he once had.
Gallopin is a great rider, but he's too allround and thus too average in every segment. I think he needs to specialize in something.
Van den Broeck is on the decline. He's not in shape in any race that isn't the Tour de France, and even than he crashes out every two years.
Monfort is very welcome in the team, I'm sure he will get some good results later this year.
De Clercq is good as domestique, 15th place in GT's is a good result for him personally but it doesn't really help the team.
Wellens has still a lot of room to improve, same for De Bie.
Bak, Sieberg, Hansen, Willems etc are very good riders, but they're not leaders, they're domestiques.

Daniel Whitehouse signs with Rapha Condor JLT with immediate effect. He seems to have a bit of climbing talent and is only 19.

Breaking news! .. not.. Think anyone sane following cycling would know that only BMC and Tinkoff could afford him from the possible teams he could move too.
Quite funny though if he goes to BMC..who let the better Norwegian go to Katusha

I don't know, I wouldn't be surprised if EBH was forced to take a pay cut. As it is he is probably one of the most overpaid riders in the peloton. That might broaden out the number of teams who could afford him (remember that Alonso is also going to be starting a well funded team).

Aru to Sky?
I started to like him...
So now they might have the biggest two stage racing talents

He won't take much though I am sure.
Alonso project seems to have taken a stumble, not looking good at all from recent rumours.
Also Beppe Conti sais Sky made a big offer to Fabio Aru that he can't refuse So now they might have the biggest two stage racing talents Although unless Dombrowski knee problems cant be fixed, he'll never become as big as it looked he would.

I'm not sure he will have a choice.
Regardless, BMC have made some ill - advised signings in recent years so I wouldn't be surprised if they take him on at a stupid wage.

As we are into norwegians, Sven Erik Bystrøm is very likely to sign for Katusha next season. Katusha have promised Kristoff to sign another norwegian to keep him happy, and Bystrøm has shown good abilities this spring. Also he is from the same region as Kristoff, and they are good friends. Not confirmed by anyone, but I still find it likely to happen. |
