Becherovka - Kiwibank are proud to present the final roster for the 2014 season. The board feels this roster has a good chance to continue with good results from the last season and that the quality of the team will be even better than in the last season. As a bonus, we added even more focus on attracting Czech and Slovakian talent.
We will now present every rider of our team, with their stats and a small introduction on what's expected of them for the upcoming season.
Sam Bewley
27 years
€850.000 wage
4.100 experience
The undisputed leader of the team. Sam is one of the greatest riders on this planet, he is a top sprinter and even better rider over cobblestones with secondary stats that ensure he is always in it to win it. Rumours are saying he really improved once again over the winter and should be back with the best form of his life. Bewley will lead the team in 3 Monuments, and in every other cobble and sprint classic and could even look to try to win a small stage race that should favour riders like him.
José Rujano
32 years
€420.000 wage
4.100 experience
José is a rider the team counts on heavily for the upcoming season. A large investment has been made into him in this off-season and he should be our biggest threat in the mountains. José should enjoy his last season on the top of his form with at least one try to get a top result in a Grand Tour, plus he should be present in many other stage races as well, and especially in José's only South American race in ProTour. José was the most expensive incoming transfer of this season for our team.
Peter Velits
29 years
€350.000 wage
4.100 experience
Peter Velits is another new guy in the team, he was brought in, in a swap deal for our long-term mountain rider Henao Montoya. There are strong rumours Peter Velits should be in the best form of his life in the coming season. The team believe Peter can lead Becherovka in many races, especially in a large portion of one week races, there is even a strong possibility we won't see Peter in any race of coming season, but nothing is sure at the moment.
Peter Sagan
24 years
€270.000 wage
4.100 experience
Another big investment and a new guy is Peter Sagan. Young Slovakian rider already has a ProTour experience, but only in this season he is finally closing in on his way to the top and finally should be one of leaders of his team. Peter is a great young puncheur, with a strong final kick and is not too bad in bigger climbs as well. He will surely be the leader of the team in all hilly classics, a few stages, plus he could do a Grand Tour as well. Peter should be a long-term rider of the team and his manager was absolutely delighted with getting him. We can surely expect Peter will become better and better rider in the next seasons.
Jesse Sergent
26 years
€95.000 wage
4.100 experience
Jesse is the current New Zealand's National Champion in the time-trial, and that clearly makes him one of the most important riders in the team. After his decent first season in our team, he should be back in an even better form than in the last year. An unbelievably hard task to fulfill is for Sergent to replace Coppel as the best time trialist in the team. Hopefully he'll be able to repeat at least many of Jerome's 2013 top 10 results. Jesse should be also one of the most important helpers for our sprinters in many races.
Roman Kreuziger
29 years
€72.000 wage
4.100 experience
Kreuziger isn't exactly a superstar, but he's a very hard worker which makes him one of the most needed riders in the team. Also he is a really good time trialist and so should a really important rider especially for TTTs. He is one of the best helpers we have in the team and even more importantly a real favourite of the manager.
Michael Hepburn
23 years
€55.000 wage
3.04 experience
Hepburn was signed in the last season and spent that season on a loan in Team Cisco. This year, he is coming back to the main team and already should be an important team member and will be present everywhere where his qualities will be needed especially for TTTs. The coming season should be a really important year for Michael, and another crucial one for his development.
Josh Atkins
22 years
€50.000 wage
3.06 experience
Josh is a big mate of Michael, his qualities are amost the same and his story was absolutely the same in the last season - signed by Milka, loaned out to Cisco. And even this year Josh will be everywhere where will be Michael as well. It looks like we found an even better replacement for Nepomnyachsniy brothers, these two even they don't have the same name, will at least race mainly in the same races!
Leigh Howard
25 years
€150.000 wage
4.100 experience
Leigh is finally on the top of his development and should be back in this season better than ever. Not only he should be a key lead-out man for Bewley, but he should be our key sprinter for the most of stage races, where he should get his own chances to shine and his own lead-out team. Howard should be present in at least one Grand Tour, and he can also hopefully get his first proffesional win in this season as well.
Daniel Vesely
22 years
€50.000 wage
4.06 experience
Vesely will finally ride for our team in this season. After 2 loans in PCT in the past seasons, he should become an important member of our lead-out team for Howard and Bewley and he should be present in every race these two will be present in. Also he could likely get some his own chances for a good result as well, but likely it will be one season too soon to expect something big from young Czech sprinter.
Westley Gough
26 years
€55.000 wage
4.99 experience
Not only a decent sprinter, but also a decent time-trialist. He should be also an important part of lead-out team for both Bewley and Howard. The last season was mainly an important step in his rider development and the season 2014 will be almost the same.
Nazir Jaser
25 years
€50.000 wage
3.00 experience
As a comlete surprise, it was Nazir Jaser who received a contract offer as the last full-time team member. Nazir is from Syria, so he will hopefully help to show the country in a better light in the world of cycling. However for the best results from young Syrian we will have to wait a few season, then he should become a useful member of lead-out team for the main leader.
Leopold König
27 years
€150.000 wage
4.100 experience
Polda is heading for his 3rd season with the team, but this season should be the first when he could get his own chances in some races. While he is not expected to produce many points for the team singlehandedly, given his great all-round stats he will be asked to be always ready to protect his leaders. Some of rumours are even saying he could even lead the team in Le Tour de France!
Matej Vysna
26 years
€55.000 wage
4.99 experience
After seasons of developing Matej is almost on the top of his potential abilities. In this season he should become a really important member mainly in one week stage races where he should become a key helper. Peter Velits should be the main guy for who should ride Vysna in this season.
Jakub Kratochvila
26 years
€55.000 wage
4.97 experience
Almost the same story as Matej is Jakub Kratochvila. He is still one season from his maximum abilities, but he should be an important member of the team already in this season. Jakub's idol seems to be Andy Schleck and he will really likely meet him in a Grand Tour, as he should be a key helper on all of them.
Jakub Novak
26 years
€55.000 wage
4.99 experience
We have another Jakub in the team and this one, Jakub Novak should be a really important rider for our team, and even him is still a little bit under the top of his best possible results. He should ride all races with TTT on the course and at least 2 GTs as well. Still even he has one big development step to do in his career.
Michael Kolar
22 years
€50.000 wage
3.04 experience
Michael should be another guy who has his main years of the career before him. Even this season he should however be at least a decent team member and should rider at least some of the Grand Tours. He spent his last season in PCT on a loan.
Tyron Giogieri
26 years
€50.000 wage
2.88 experience
Tyron was a little bit surprisingly released by his team, but thankfully to manager Roman he becomes a new Becherovka's rider. The coming season should be the one to learn, he should be nothing more than a watter carrier. However, he is a guy with a big potential and so should become a key helper for GTs in a few years.
Josef Hosek
23 years
€50.000 wage
2.50 experience
Josef will be a good helper in mountains and hills after a few years of some hard training, this season he will then only learn from better riders than him and will be a watter carrier.
Zdenek Stybar
29 years
€50.000 wage
4.100 experience
In this season way bigger role is coming for Zdenek than in the last seasons. He should become a key helper for Sam Bewley on cobble classics. We are hopefull he can help Sam to get the wins not only our sponsors really want. He should also ride some of GTs.
Jiri Polnicky
25 years
€50.000 wage
4.00 experience
Jiri is one of the new guys in the team and he will be a part of important support team for our biggest star in cobble classics. He still has some development work before him and we believe he will become a good team helper of our team for many coming years.
Petr Vakoc
22 years
€55.000 wage
3.02 experience
One of the biggest hilly talents on this planet, that is Petr Vakoc. He has many better years before him than will be this one, but he already should be at least a decent helper mainly for our leader Peter Sagan. He enjoyed the last season in CT, this season he should already be part of the team for all hilly classics in PT.
Karel Hnik
23 years
€55.000 wage
3.24 experience
Even Karel was released by the team after his loan in Team Cisco, the team manager clearly felt the place for Karel is in the Czech team and so he was brought in once again. Karel should ride not only the biggest cobble classics for the many years and even he will likely struggle in this season quite a lot, he should become an important member of the team mainly in these classics after two more years of some development.
Jan Hirt
23 years
€420.000 wage
1.00 experience
Jan is the living dream of all Czech cycling fans and the biggest Czech cycling talent. Becherovka - Kiwibank has decided he has to get him at any costs. Jan will be a first real Czech GT hope, but we will have to wait a few seasons for that. Now he will enjoy his first season of development in PCT team Allianz.
Daniel Turek
21 years
€50.000 wage
1.20 experience
Daniel is one to watch in the future especially in time trials. In a few season Turek will be a really important part of all Becherovka's TTT teams. Now he was loaned to Bacardi - Itera for the first part of his journey.
Michael Boroš
22 years
€50.000 wage
1.00 experience
Michael should be a key helper for our cobble leader in a few years, but for now he has to rather develope than think about the best races in the world. As the first place of his career he will enjoy the leading duties in Sri Lankan team La Vie Claire.
