Also, admir likes F1, but I personally like F2, it gives you a better idea of keeping your position stable

Yep, DSJ community is somehow halved to ones that likes F1 and the ones that likes F2 and it always was like that. Just find the one that suits you better (F2 would probably do the job for Alak, since he played DSJ2 and the only camera able back then was F2).

F1 or F2? The sideways ones? I'm using F3 and I'm very happy with it. I couldn't imagine having the same kind of control in one of those.

Matter of habbit, believe me. But F1/F2 are waaay better for me when it comes to controlling a jumper, takeoff, landing etc. It really depends, when you get used to one camera you probably won't change it afterwards (even if you're maybe even better on these "other cameras" just because you think you're better while using it.

Obviously habit is the reason, but can you explain to me how you are able to judge the angle of the ski to the body relative to the ground without a side angle? Or maybe you guys are just too used to this

Ski jumping is one of the main broadcasted winter sports here (top 3), so I see maybe ~1000 jumps every year, that helps judging
F3 gives me a way clearer view of the table and the projected landing area, and I honestly can't get more information regarding my angle from the side views than I can get from behind. The pretty static view gives me a good indication if something changes.
Habits. It always was the most logical camera for me, similar to NfS, and I always know exactly what's happening now.
The very same reason why I always play with the inverted y-axis in every FPS: my first video game was Crimson Skies, an arcadeish flight simulator back in 2000, obviously with joystick-like controls = inverted y-axis.
I played this so much that my brain automatically thinks "push down stick -> look/go up", no matter which game.
No way I can ever play a shooter different again, while someone else could never play this way.

I was gonna try this but it seems way too technical for me. I'll stick to Goat Simulator.

To be completely honest, Goat Simulator is impressive for a game that took two weeks to make..
Anyways, on the topic, it is not technical at all. A keyboard is not even required, just a mouse

I am watching ski jumping since the 90ies
But the controls are horrible, I had 0.5 used as the sensivity for the video.

131.04m in Lahti, preety happy with that
I tried few cameras, but F2 is the one I am using now, I prefer F1 to be honest, but with F2 I control the skier better hence so far get better jumps by far, but with time I think I will switch to F1.
With F1 I seem to be making a mistake as my skis go very flat at the end in quite straight position many times, I am getting better at it though.

131,04 in Lahti is actually very good for first few tries. My record is somewhere on 139 or something like that, but it took me much more time actually.

PBs of 129 in Lahti, 139.5 in Lillehammer and 209 in Oberstdorf convinced me of buying the game
First try with 2m headwind in Lahti: 131

Curiously enough, never actually got the hang of DSJ4. Always falled and never got the position right.
On DSJ3 is all another story. I really like DSJ3 and only have the demo of DSJ4, so DSJ3 all the way. |

Seriously considering starting a story-game with DSJ4 as its base, now. I am a bit tired of PCM and I really want to continue story-writing, so I thought this might be perfect time/game/place.
I have 2 questions for you:
1. DSJ4, as some of you may know, doesn't have the 3D simulation mode, as Jussi (the guy who created this game and who is the only one working on it for 10 years) thought it would be unecessary (DSJ3 has that option, btw) and it would make the game heavier. So, my question would be, which option would you choose from these 2 below:
a) Simulate all hills/jumps with a possibility of jumper stats and ranking system (which are very cool) with the possibility of jumper developing, screenshot here and there and much more text analyze than in option b).
b) Play all hills by myself without a possibility of any stats (it means it depends on how I play and it's totally random), without any possibility of developing, but with a possibility of much more screenshots, videos of every competition and stuff like that.
Personally, I'd go with 1st option as it gives more realism and stuff, but the 2nd option isn't the problem at all for me. Just don't blame me if/when i fail/fall.
2. Is there any interest in this? It's not time-consuming at all for you and it would be really nice to have something like this as I enjoy reporting and DSJ4 generally. So, please write it here if you'd be interested in taking a participation in such a project.

Yes, I'd be very interested in this, pretty exciting. Always nice to follow non-PCM stories (*cough cough* MS PAINT).
Definitely the former seems like the better idea, makes it more exciting and interactive rather than you taking control of our jumper and making me fall every time.

This is a great idea admir! Actually, in the past, I played a browser based skijumping-manager game. At that time we could choose a national team and get some jumpers with predecided stats. I used Ukraine and got some weak riders of course, but you had the possibility to sign your riders up for both WC, COC and Worlds/Olympics and they got XP for every event which you later also could use for training. The higher ranked you were on the world cup ranking also determined the number of jumpers you could assign for next world cup-event.
I would absolutely go for possibility A, as that would be like the PCM-man game. I do think that national teams are a good idea, and that you could choose riders for WC + COC (Get extra quota for national events like IRL)
Also if we get enough interest, we used to do a qualification event prior to the contest. Extra delightful for me when I secured to Ukrainians at 48th and 50th (which meant extra XP)
Something like this would be extremely interesting. I think if you only are in control of 1 rider, like yourself, it can become a little boring. But brilliant idea! |
