Oh, and if the project would become too big to handle, I think if you handle the career part well enough, 3D races wouldn't even be necessary for most of us |

This sounds amazing! Wish you the very best of luck . Also, it would be great to have another (good) Cycling game on the market to actually motivate Cyanide to work harder.
Exactly, Cyanide moved their focus to the console games ever since PCM11 opening up room for a new manager game to please the PC players.
Imagine a game build and owned by the community in cooperation we already have the best shirt, DB and stage makers in the world - blending that together with an expandable game with much stronger features an you have the game we all want. |

Hmm, nah, a 3D part should be in I think.
Or maybe a bit FM-like, minute-to-minute with just giving basic orders

Erm, no way, Ian. 3D races have to be included in a cycling manager - at least for me.

Me to, the best part of PCM is the 3D gameplay, which I actually think has become pretty good

I have always had one idea for how the 3D-part of a cycling game should be.
I have always thought that PCM is good for what it is, and a competitor should really be a completly seperate game.
You hire someone to sit in the cars, who takes all decicions during the race. Who should go back to get bottles, when should you move the team to the front etc.
The director you hire has skills like the riders, and if your team is focusing on cobbles, you should hire someone with good tactical skills in the cobbles. If your team is big you have many directors.
You are yourself the one who set up the tactic pre-race. Who is our captain, who should help in the sprint, who should go for the early breakaway, but when the race has started it is out of your hands.
This way, you can still influence the race and have a 3D-part, but you could have a much more in dept 3D engine.
The reason the FM engine is so much more in dept than FIFAs is that the FIFA-engine needs to be able to react instantly, while the FM engine can calculate everything up front. The races will be more intelligent, and it would also be more realistic than you saying things like "stop going 76%, you have to go 77%".
You would also then not be forced to sit and watch the entire stage, in case something happens, and could maybe get some sort of highlight reel at the end.
And you could have 1 to 1 stages, with all that adds.
I would also like to suggest some of the abilities i feel PCM is lacking at the moment. You might have them already, but i thought they should be mentioned.
Profesionalism; How focused is the rider in his training. A unprofesional rider might be the big favorite for a big race, but even though he should peak his form toward it, he has not been serious enough, and he is nowhere near where he should be.
Team work: How well does the rider take orders. A low rating here might cause him to do a Gadret. Plus, how much will they kill themself to get the last bottle up to the captain, or to pull for a few 100 meters longer.
Bravery: In mass sprints and downhills, how much risk will the rider take?
High bravery combined with low agility might be a disaster. There might also be a second skill called something else for how brave the rider is when it comes to take high risk like breaking away early to gain seconds on your rival.
Tactical understanding: Even though you have a director, the rider is still responsible for many of the decicions himself. Might be seperated to different diciplines, as a good sprint tactician is not always a good mountain tactician.
Pressure: It is the decisive stage in the Tour de France. You have the yellow jersey and are favorite to win. How well do you handle it?
Positioning: Pretty self explanitory. Important for everyone, but most of all sprinters. A sprinter with low positioning could be saved by a team mate with a high rating.
Plus the mountain/hill in PCM makes no sense, and should really be handled completly different. I think i have written about it before, it should be mentioned again. I would instead like one rating for how good you are at handling steep climbs, and one for how good you are at handling long climbs. A guy like Nibali migh have (in PCM ratings) 70/84, while Rodriguez has 82/82, and Gilbert 84/70. A low "steep" rating makes your stamina/other bars go down faster when the percentage go up, and the "long" rating makes them go down faster when you have been climbing for a long time without stop.
I have been thinking a lot about how i would make a cycling management game, and would love to see your idea come into play, and be helpful in any way possible. (if you want someone to make you food while you make the game, it is not a possible way ) |

@Stevenag
Thx for the suggestions, without spoiling anything i think you can be safe to assume a lot of it will be present in my game
psychology will affect riders perfomance in the stages,
- has he low or high morale?
- how does he handle pressure from the media?
- if in yellow how will he handle attacks from his rivals? if the create a gap can he ride in his own pace or will he give up completely?
All that and more is part of my vision for the gameplay |

But do we still control the riders?

competition is what makes a market good. look at FIFA, where would it have been without competiting from PES and I'm willing to bet that Madden NFL would be better if the worst company in the United States would have some competition. |

It did. NFL 2K. So naturally EA bought exclusive rights.

Madden will never have competition... The only competition they had was NFL2k5, after which EA made a pitch for the exclusive rights for the game!

meaning no competition
whatever it takes to keep the title: "worst company in the United States" (twice in a row I might add) |

This sounds too good to be true.

You definitely need to have a bicycle handling stat as well
Used mainly for corners, in sprinting, avoid falling and riding on small roads (such as Flandrien roads)
Oh, and you need a winter - cyclo-cross season between road seasons |

hahaha if we had the ressources i would love to implement that!
but to be perfectly honest, cyclo-cross and track racing is not on the feature list for this game but 3D is indeed otherwise i wouldn't spend the next 3 months developing 3D models for the game engine ^^ |

We already have great Track mode in PCM so that's not needed. Just try to implement at least half of these things above and game is going to look at least like PCM , if not better. I really hopes that this project won't fail and that you're going to make it, at the end. Best of luck, once again.

Wow this looks pretty awesome. You seem to have a lot of great ideas and the enthusiasm. If you ever make it so far that you're going to kickstarter, be sure I'll back you

How did I manage to miss this...i hope this turns out amazing! Loving the sound of it as PCM needs a serious career makeover.

Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!
