The career has begun... First race is planned as Tour de Haut Var for Romain, but I will do a quick January summary this evening, with the team's other results and other major results for the month
*****
@welker & sutty: thanks for letting me know. Seems like velonews do not like their pictures being linked to other websites and threads. I will update that tonight
@welker: I am going back to a style of writing I had in the Cav story so let's hope it can be just as good
@Ian: old fashioned style of story indeed If it ain't broken then why try and fix it. I'm going back to what I do best
@freitas: glad to have you on board

The race calendar for Romain is now updated, as well as the team photo.

Pre-Season Training - Brioude, France
Well the new season is upon us, and it was time I got out on the roads and get some miles in my legs. I spent the Christmas and New Year period with my family in Brioude, and thought the local climbs would be a great place to start.
With the Côte de Lachaud being part of this year's Paris-Nice, I thought it would be good to try it out two or three times. It was a nice easy cat. 2 climb, and despite the weather on the day, it would good to get out on the road. I just hope it in better weather in March for the Race to the Sun. It is going to be nice to ride on my local roads in a WorldTour race.
Well, my first race is not until the Tour du Haut Var at the end of February, but I will be in touch before then with another update on my training. I think the team is due to meet up in the United Arab Emirates at the start of February, so will be nice to get some sun on my back.
À bientôt!

There was no racing for me, as I continued by training ahead of the new season in France. However, it all kicked off on the other side of the world, with the Australian and New Zealand National Championships, followed by the Santos Down Under. Back on the European soil, the GP la Marseillaise took the focal point for some teams, ahead of the Etolies des Bessèges and Tour Méditerranéen.
. | Road Race | Time Trial | Australia | Simon Gerrans | Richie Porte | New Zealand | Greg Henderson | Jesse Sergent |
Santos Tour Down Under
Movistar's Giovanni Visconti took the win Down Under, after storming to a solo win on Willunga Hill. The podium was completed by Diego Ulissi (Lampre) and Peter Velits (OmegaPharma), who both finished 8" down on the Italian. AG2R's best rider was Maxime Bouet, who sadly just missed out on the podium in 4th place on GC, despite having the same time as Ulissi and Velits. All was not lost though, as our young German Julian Kern walked away with the KoM jersey.
1 | Giovanni Visconti | Movistar | 17h15'30 | 2 | Diego Ulissi | Lampre - Merida | + 8 | 3 | Peter Velits | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | s.t. | . | Pts | Tom Veelers | Argos - Shimano | KoM | Julian Kern | AG2R La Mondiale | U25 | Diego Ulissi | Lampre - Merida | Team | RadioShack - Leopard |
Grand Prix la Marseillaise
Gianni Meersman made it a good month for OmegaPharma, as he took the win in the first race of the year on European soil. the Belgian managed to hold off the advancing peleton, after a late attack 6km from the finish. Europcar's Yukiya Arashiro and Jan Bakelants of RadioShack round out the podium. Ben Gastauer was the top AG2R man, finishing 10th a long day in the break.
1 | Gianni Meersman | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step | 3h24'52 | 2 | Yukiya Arashiro | Europcar | s.t | 3 | Jan Bakelants | RadioShack - Leopard | s.t. |
*****
The team bosses have confirmed that the team head out to the UAE next month ahead of the Tour of Qatar and Tour of Oman for some training in a hotter climate. And from what is rumoured amongst the riders... I best make sure I pack my aero helmet and Time Trial skinsuit in with my luggage.
À bientôt!

@cycleman: glad to have you on board I am aimming for cav story standard and more this time around including a few ideas from my other little half stories and a bit of influence from the other story writers
@sutty & freitas: The KoM jersey was a nice consolation prize after just missing out on the podium with Bouet. It was down to stage placings in the end...

Pre-Season Training - Dubai, United Arab Emirates
As February brings racing in the Middle East, the whole headed out to finalise their pre-season training in warmer climes. Time trailing was the order from the first few days, something I was not really looking forward to.
Time trialing was never been my strong suit, but management insisted on it, because if we want to aim high this year, we need to work on the weaknesses in the team. Also, if I want to challenge for the top honours in the Tour de France or Giro d'Italia in the future, this is an area I will definitely need to up my game.
Those who were not involved in the Tour of Qatar or Tour of Oman stayed on in the UAE for a few days longer, and headed out for a some short rides to keep the legs nice and loose.
My first race in Tour du Haut Var is fast approaching, so I think the next time we speak, my season will be up and running.
À bientôt!

Hi all,
I am afraid i come to you this morning with bad news... Yesterday, my house was broken into whilst at work, taking many of my items with them. This included my ps3, my laptop and more important my bike... BA****DS!!!
So I'm afraid the story is no more before it even properly started. Thanks to all who followed so far. I may also be a little quieter than usual as well, so I will you all soon.
Thanks
Phil

Wow, thats really unfortunate. I can only imagine how mad you must be, to lose items like that. Hopefully they can atleast locate your bike. I know how expensive they are to replace.
