Henao was confirmed as leader back in February. Also Uran will leave at the end of the year and doesn't make sanse to put him leader.

Might as well go for a prediction now too. Can't remember the last time I had this much trouble picking a winner. Could go to any one of the top 4, really.

2. Henao
3. Nibali
4. Valverde
5. Basso
6. Mollema
7. Moreno

1. Purito - good form + real good route for him
2. Valverde - also good route for him + performs good in vuelta
3. Nibali - doesn't seem at his best (burgos GC)
4. Sánchez - u may dissagree. but seems to be in good condition
5. Basso - good form lately + only GT this year.
6. Henao - Good climber + good route and team
7. Majka - showed good form in Poland.
8. Betancur - not at his "Grio-level" yet. but route suites him.
9. Moreno - helping Purito. but usually makes the top 10.
10. Horner - Good climber + average TT
#BONUS#
Kreuziger - stage win and possibly top 10/5 if he takes a lot of time and sits in a good position in the GC.
Roche - top 15 |

Purito and Valverde will be very motivated to get their revenge (Purito for last year's misses and Valverde for this TDF) but might fade in 3rd week due to fatigue. Don't know about Nibali's form and motivation considering Vuelta vs Worlds. Colombians might also have a say on podium or maybe even victory. And hopefully Kangert can throw in something too |

I expect a close battle between the top 5. I was considering putting Henao on top but went with a safer choice

Should be a pretty good Vuelta this year. I think Nibali will take it, but it will be close with so many short mountain stage finishes.
I hope for Pozzovivo to take a stage or two the same With Diego Ulissi. |

Wow, im suprised by the believe in Henao. Obviously everyone has a subjective opinion, which count as good as mine. I dont see him in top 5 at all. He simply isnt good enough nor explosive enough with the likes and climbers in the line up.
I just read, that Uran and Henao would have co-leadership. Not Henao as only captain.
Furthermore I think Uran is a better climber + more explosive. Sorry i dont see Henao that high up, and probably never will. Unless, the "real marginal gains" begins.......
EDIT: abovementioned is based on all the races i haven seen with Henao ofcurse

Henao finished 9th in his first GT last year. And he was really strong in the classics this season. Especially in FW which is very similar to most stages in Spain. (He still finished 16th in the Giro while being sick)
And Sky says Uran and Henao have co-leadership but Uran has already got a chance to lead the team in a GT this year + he's leaving the team so if they have to choose at one point they will go with Henao.

And main reason to rate him so high is clear. He is from SKY, so finishing out of podium would be close to miracle.

I know all this, but from my point of view, it does not look like at all that he has what it takes to make it top5 in the GT. Maybe in the future. But do not see him as a potential GT winner at all. Maybe it will change if I see him stronger in the mountains.
Either way time will tell. Your argument does count, yes Sky chooses Henao, but that gives Uran even more reason to ride his own chances and forfill his ambitions. Furthermore his market value keeps increasing, which I think he is interested in. And why not get even more points which he can take with him to his new team ? |

Henao is one of the most explosive climbers in the world. If he will not finish in top 5 this will be a big dissapoint for Sky.

Henao has more GC potential than Uran in my opinion. He's base level of fitness is just incredible, one of best in the world, and that is vital for good GC.
Henao last year came to Europe for 1st time, while Uran had few more years and was already on par with him in all races they started.
This year, he's been better than Uran most of time, and this Giro can't be really rated as he fell sick during it.
Henao will be the last man for Sky no doubt, Uran will be a co - leader, yes, but Henao comes as a leader withotu shadow of a doubt.
Henao is the one Sky wanted to keep more of the two and I have the same mindset. And they did. And it's a right decision too in my opinion.
I know personally from a friend in Colombia ( who knows Henao personally ) as well, Henao is in a very good shape. He had much better preparation to Vuelta than any other GT he did so far. And would be disappointed as he said in interviews if he did not get a Top 5 and a stage win.

Oh, you'll eat those words in a month
I'm very confident Henao will be on the podium and absolutely certain that he's a better climber than Uran. Look at this year's Pais Vasco to see what he can do on climbs like those in the Vuelta.
