Burgos BH - The Only Way Is Up! [Abandoned]
sutty68
Belda is putting in a strong ride despite the strength of the field Wink

OZrocker
He certainly did, he's going to be a huge bonus this year and probably our best contender for most objectives.

Race Preview
Tour of South Africa

Our first sponsor goal of the year! This race is only a .2 classification, which combined with other big races being run at the same time (including the GP di Lugano, Vuelta a Andalucia and Tour du Haut Var) means we won’t be facing off against such a strong field this time. Jimenez, Carazo, Capdepuy and Torres will all be starting their seasons off here after sitting out the Vuelta a Mallorca.

Our main objective will be to wear the leader’s jersey at the end of at least one of the 7 stages. The race is classified as being flat, with the second and sixth stages being more hilly. After the second stage there will also be a rest day.

Some of the favourites among the startlist are:

• Floris Goesinnen (DPC) (Who recently held off the best sprinters in the world to win a stage in the Tour of Qatar)

• Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (MTN)

• Robbie Squire (CDT)

• Fred Rodriguez (XRG)

• Markus Fothen
and Sergej Fuchs (NSP)

Full startlist:

P.S. Thanks for all your great support at our last race, everyone was really happy to see the fans cheering us on from the sidelines!

The early breakaway contains three riders;
B. Dietrich (TET)
T. Scully (CDT)
Y. Vasyliv (LKT)
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1breakaway.png

Branaa tries to take part but the peloton are wary of his attempts and drag him back every time he looks like getting away. The gap gets out to around 3’40” as Vasyliv wins the mountain points and Scully takes the 6” sprint bonus.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1sprint.png

Torres goes to the front to help MTN-Qhubeka and Rabobank Continental with the leading duties as the gap reaches a maximum of 4’00”.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1torres.png

To ensure they don’t get too far away, both Capdepuy and Belda now join Torres at the front with the other teams slackening off a little. With 30 kms left, Rabobank and NSP join our trio in the relays; MTN and Raleigh eventually co-operate too. With just under 20kms left, the gap has been brought down to 1’30” and there seems to be some tension within the riders at the front. 15km to go now and the afore-mentioned teams have all set up sprint trains at the front. With the gap down to 1’05” we send ours to the front - Carazo-Branaa-Jimenez-Antón-Mas.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1train.png

Sure enough due to the pace increasing, with only 10kms left the breakaway is caught.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1catch.png

By the time Jimenez gets to the front he is able to lead Antón and Mas to the front and away from the front of the peloton! But with 1km left, the group have a lot of better sprinters and are gaining fast.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage1antonmas.png

500 metres to go and Mas knows what he has to do. On the line…

YES! He’s done it! Jimenez proudly celebrates the win that he did so well to create!

On a side-note, this win really surprised me. I’m usually horrible at sprints but today everything just worked a dream despite the other teams being stronger.

Tour of South Africa
Stage 2

i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2preview.png

A freezing cold day here in Johannesburg. Our strategy for today’s race involves Torres, Antón, Jimenez and Capdepuy pace setting at the front, with Belda and Branaa holding position just behind them. Along with them is race leader Lluis Mas who is being protected by Carazo.

It's a very slow start as the other teams wait for us to set the pace, the first attack coming near the summit of the first mountain climb. The riders are;
Cooke (XRG)
Sulzberger (RAL)
Miller (JSH)

Miller is the only one to put in any effort after the climb, as seen here.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2miller.png

Alzate (XRG) works his way to the front with Miller and looks to form a breakaway. However it won’t be possible as Sulzberger attacks for the next mountain sprint alongside Stemper (KPC). Unfortunately for Alzate this brings the peloton back near the front, so he aborts the attack.

The three out in front (Sulzberger, Stemper and Miller) take the points but have no intention of pursuing a breakaway and the peloton reforms. Sudden attack from three riders;
Bommel (LKT)
Cooke
Summerhill (CDT)

But it won’t last long as a counter-attack from Humbert (also from LKT), Stemper and Sulzberger amounts to nothing as it just allows Antón to drag them all back in.

The weather is starting to turn ugly now with snow and hail covering the course.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2snow.png

As Bommel, Sulzberger and Stemper attack for the sprint, Mas follows and is just beaten to the line by Bommel. His small time bonus here means he stands a good chance of holding on to the leader’s jersey for another stage at least, regardless of where he finishes today’s stage.

An array of the same riders from earlier continue to attack for more mountain points, Sulzberger and Stemper try to stay out in front as Cooke launches past them and they respond to the attack.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2break1.png

Humbert, Summerhill and Driscoll (JSH) look to attack before the sprint as well. The two groups of three trade attacks at the front and although these attacks are basically useless, 15 riders are dispatched by the escalation in pace from both the breakaway attempts and the pacemakers.

Driscoll is the only man who gives it a real shot and he easily amasses a 1’19” lead over the peloton. As the race begins to heat up, several Drapac riders join in with the chase. With their riders Lapthorne, Norris and Goesinnen all considered to have a good chance at the start of the day, it’s no surprise they will be keen to stop

Between 20-30kms left in the race now where there are dozens of riders attacking, but the temporary DPC/Burgos alliance shut them down with ease. The fast pace means Driscoll’s chances of a win today are almost non-existant.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2driscoll.png

Oliphant (RAL) is the first real contender to attack. This draws most of the other favourites to give it a shot as well with Russom (MTN), Rodriguez (XRG), Fuchs (NSP), Norris (DPC) and Slik (RB3) each making their move 15kms out from the finish.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2break2.png

While most of them are caught our 4 riders at the front end up unable to keep going with the rest of the pack. Now it’s only Russom and Fuchs out in front.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2russom.png

Our 4 rested riders all go for it now. With just 3.5kms left, Fuchs is chased down. But without our riders at the front to restore order in the group it’s not enough and Russom wins the stage in a spectacular MTN-Qhubeka trifecta!
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage2winner.png

The best part of the day for us is that with no time losses, Mas still holds the lead in the overall, points and young rider classifications.

Not a bad day for the team Wink

And nice to see Mas hold on to the race lead Wink

OZrocker
Yeah, it was better than what it easily could have been seeing as we are one of the weaker continental teams. I don't expect him to hold on for any longer though, Reinardt is a far superior rider in just about every way, so our best chances are once again going to be through Belda and Branaa.

OZrocker
Sorry about the delay on getting this report up, I'll try to update more often but punctuality and me don't seem to get on too well Wink

Stage 3

i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3preview.png

Only a couple of early attempts at a breakaway and today we will let them go for it. Sulzberger (KOTM, RAL) and Rabobank Continental have other ideas though and the escapees are comfortably chased down. The group continues at a cracking pace as Carazo, Jimenez and Capdepuy are happy to let teams NSP-Ghost and Raleigh take charge. At the first sprint, Thomel (NSP) and Briggs (RAL) take first and second respectively with a punchy attack.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3sprint.png

Jimenez leads the peloton in for 2 points. With that over, both teams drop back and almost immediately there comes the day’s break.

Vasyliv (LKT)
Thompson (DPC)
Barth (TET)
Windsor (KPC)
Scully (CDT)
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3break.png

They might not get away though with Rabobank and 2 riders each from RAL and NSP looking to help with the pacemaking, which gives Capdepuy and Jimenez a much needed rest. Meanwhile Torres is clearly taking it easy today.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3torres.png

After getting within 20 seconds of the break they give up and Carazo and Jimenez are left doing the work at the front while Capdepuy gets drinks. Very little happens after this as the break’s advantage yo-yos around a 2’40” - 3’00” gap. With only a third of the race remaining we add Branaa to the front pack (now 4 riders, with Torres subbed in for Jimenez) and the break appear to be tiring as the extra man sees us gain time on them immediately.

With 37kms left, the gap is still at 2’12 and we send Jimenez to grab drinks and then join the front again. Belda now sets about protecting Mas alongside Antón near the front of the peloton.

We quickly halve the lead, with MTN and RB3 riders still surrounding us at the front. Thompson (DPC) tries to set a faster pace in the break. It seems it’s too fast for Scully and Vasyliv and he soon backs off after finding himself all alone at the front.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3thompson.png

The other teams are finally taking some interest in the chase. Three riders are caught with about 22kms left to go.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3catch1.png

Thompson and Windsor (KPC) are just 23 seconds clear. Carazo, Capdepuy and Jimenez are all tired out by now and they will slowly fall back as the pace increases. Back at the front, Hofland (RB3) catches the two leaders with a strong burst of pace at the front with just 18.6kms left to go.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3catch2.png

With 15kms left, our 5 fresh(er) men are left near the front, ready to give it their all as the mountain sprint approaches. Branaa will respond to attacks near the front with Belda while Torres protects Mas. Antón will just have to try and keep with them. Fortunately it’s a very uneventful climb and the plan works perfectly.

Our train now forms and with Torres tiring fast, it’s Branaa-Belda-Antón-Mas for today.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3train.png

We lead out well, but perhaps Branaa and Belda go for too much too soon, as Antón begins to fall back from the front near the end of his turn. Mas is placed near the front when he goes for it. He’s sprinting well…
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage3winner.png
…but no, today belongs to Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (MTN) and Mas will have to make do with a reasonably good 5th placing.

Mountains and Teams rankings are basically the same as yesterdays.

While we’re obviously unhappy with Lluis losing all three of his jerseys to JVR today, it was what we expected would happen and the whole team can be very proud of their efforts on what proved to be a tough day. Also, without the pressure of leading, perhaps we now have a better chance at setting up a stage win for one of our leading trio.

Belda is aggressive today and he attempts to break early. Others trying to get away include Flaksis (CDT), Miller (JSH), Chaddock (XRG) and Dietrich (TET). As expected MTN-Qhubeka are at the front with the same teams who stayed up there with us in previous stages. Everyone is being very careful about attacks early on.

Miller, Flaksis and Dietrich manage to charge out in front and get a 40” advantage. Belda breaks to join them. After seeing him bridge the gap, Rabobank and NSP make sure they can’t get away and tear down the 50” gap in an instant. Andzs Flaksis isn’t done yet and he attacks again.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4flaksis.png

No surprise that this time he is able to get away with no dangerous rider with him. Stemper (KPC) also breaks in front of the second mountain checkpoint. His second placing there is enough to make him the provisional leader in the mountains category.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4stemper.png

The duo open up a 3’40 gap by the halfway point. With Belda’s daily form fairly low, he won’t be trying any more attacks. After the halfway mark the chase slowly begins from MTN and NSP with RB3 still sitting near the front.

On passing the next mountain climb, the peloton relax their pace at the front for a while as the break riders aren’t a huge threat to the GC. Stemper is the more dangerous one: he is 3’24 behind the race leader and Flaksis is over 13 minutes back.

The lead is still just over two minutes at the final sprint point where Thömel (NSP) and Briggs (RAL) have another sprint duel for the remaining 2 points.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4sprint.png

Belda gives it one last shot on the final climb but the pace is far too quick now for him to make an impact. Goesinnen (DPC) attacks just after the climb to no avail. Stemper (JSH) now breaks away from Flaksis (CDT) as he only has a 1 minute advantage on the peloton remaining.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4breaksplit.png

With 7kms left, our sprint train today is Capdepuy-Belda-Jimenez-Antón-Mas. Slik (RB3) breaks just as we attack and joins the end of our train just as we are getting away from the main field. (He is on the right here.)
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4trainslik.png

Flaksis has been caught now but Fothen (NSP) also manages to jump the gap as we get away from the front of the pack, with Stemper just seconds in front with 2kms to go. Antón sets up Mas well for the sprint, dispatching Stemper but he can’t shake off Fothen and Slik. All 4 take off for the sprint. Mas takes Slik’s back wheel as Fothen can’t keep up. It’s down to just the two of them…
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage4finish.png

…and Mas has done it again! He regains the lead that he lost at the end of yesterday’s stage with a comfortable victory. Van Rensburg (MTN) and Zabel (RB3) sprint hard for the line to ensure there is no time gap, but it’s not enough for the South African with just 3 stages left in the Tour.

Today’s Category 2 climb could cause a few problems for teams like us, so that’s our main focus going into the day.

At the start we have some familiar names part of the opening attack;
Miller (JSH)
Ratcliff (CDT)
Winsor (KPC)
Chaddock (XRG)
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5break1.png

We’re prepared to let them get away for now and just run them down in the back half of the stage. Barth (TET) looks to attack as well, but seeing him as a big threat on this stage Rabobank make sure he won’t get away. After waiting until we are alone at the front, he tries again. This time he has two other riders along with him in Schädlich (NSP) and Vasyliv (LKT).
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5break2.png

While Raleigh, Rabobank and Drapac all try to stop them from getting away, they are forced to give up the chase when the trio get over 1’00 advantage. The two breakaway groups soon combine with a 3’00 advantage on the peloton. At the 1st sprint Schädlich is the only one to sprint and he easily takes the points.

Onto the climb we have Antón join the 4 others at the front to ensure none of the other teams get away. Miller and Vasyliv both attack near the end of the climb for the points which are eventually taken by Miller.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5mounatin.png

The peloton however remain calm and we can relax again as the hardest part of the stage is over. Back up front, Schädlich, Ratcliff, Winsor and Miller work together to separate themselves from the others as we are gaining on the breakaway. Barth is the only one who seems keen on catching them and while Vasyliv goes with him, Chaddock sits back and will just hope to hang on. While the groups splinter a little at the sprint point it seems the two groups are going to stay this way for the remainder of this race.

Our 5 at the front keep up the pressure and the time difference stays at 2’40 from the front group. With just under 60kms left the group of 3 are only 40 seconds in front of us now and the catch is made very soon after.

Winsor (KPC) struggles to stay with the other survivors as we up the pace.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5winsor.png

Both Capdepuy and Jimenez put in long and powerful turns at the front to get the lead down to under a minute. The 4 in front begin to attack each other as Rabobank take over to finalise the catch. Ratcliff (CDT) is the last to give in but is soon last on the road as he gave everything he had in the break.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5ratcliff.png

RB3 continue to set down a fast pace at the front and our workmen begin to struggle to keep up. Antón pulls out to stick with Mas in case he can be of use in a sprint finish.

With 10kms left it seems Antón will be unable to help much with the sprint and it will take all he has just to hang on. Branaa and Belda look to get near the front but Rabobank and Drapac are faster and Mas will need a miracle to win now. Janse Van Rensburg (MTN) gets on to the back wheel of Shaw (DPC) and with Zabel (RB3) still charging to the line it’s going to be close…
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage5finish.png
…and JVR wins the stage and takes back the lead. Mas got blocked in by other sprinters while Zabel was unlucky to just be beaten on the line.

To sutty
It certainly is a tough battle, I'm hoping the green jersey wearer will win for the fourth stage in a row!

To krisa
Sure thing, I'll do that from now on. Can you tell me why that is though? The file size of a png seems to be smaller than a jpg so I would've thought they loaded faster.

Next stage should be up tomorrow btw. Smile

EDIT: I've now realised that jpg files can be smaller with a lower level of picture quality. If this bothers anyone, I can always change back to higher picture quality later.

Tour of South Africa
Stage 6

i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6preview.jpg
Today has some of the toughest climbs in the whole tour, so we’ll have to protect Mas but also give Belda and Branaa a chance to take the lead if he falls behind.

Early break comes from Thompson (DPC) and Werda (TET).
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6break1.jpg

They get out to a 3’00 gap at the start of the day’s first climb. Neither are good climbers and wisely don’t waste energy going for the mountain points.
Stemper (KPC) and Summerhill (CDT) attack on the climb to gain more points for the mountains classification.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6break2.jpg

They are joined near the top by Vasyliv (LKT) and Miller (JSH), who are attacking for points as well despite Stemper’s considerable advantage over the competition. The peloton are not hurried today and the four-man chase group catches the breakaway in time for the day’s 2nd climb.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6break3.jpg

By reaching the top of the mountain they have a 4’00 lead over the field, which is just enough to see Stemper and Summerhill at the top of the provisional GC. The group’s lead reaches 4’00 at the top of the next mountain climb with the latter 4 riders vying for points at the top. The gap continues to grow out of control and gets to 6’00. With just 53kms to go MTN-Qhubeka finally begin to start a proper chase, but the front group look to be comfortable enough with a 5’30 advantage and the riders (especially Miller (JSH) and Stemper (KPC) looking motivated to keep going for the chance of a stage win.

As we hit the day’s biggest climb the peloton’s pace is finally too much for some. Among the first bunch of riders dropped on the Category 1 is the Chipotle trio of Scully, Ratcliff and surprisingly their leader Robbie Squire. At the top Stemper officially wraps up the King of the Mountains title despite Summerhill and Miller’s best efforts.

With the peloton fast accelerating we know it’s vitally important to get to the front and only Jimenez is unable to get there at first. After a long struggle, he makes it to his other team-mates on the flatter part of the course. Also at the front, the gap is now down to 4’30 as Team Exergy join in the chase for their leader Fred Rodriguez. With only 15kms to go they still have a huge 4’00 advantage so we ask Capdepuy and Jimenez to try to work with the chase at the front.

At this stage there are all 6 riders still in the breakaway and a 59-man peloton with 23 dropped riders now all working together at the back. Although there are no more classified climbs today, there are still two nasty hills to go; the last one right on the finishing line. As we go up the first it is clear to see the toll it takes on the riders as one by one more riders drop off the back of the 59-man group including major domestiques Potgieter (MTN) and Hofland (RB3).

An attack by Norris (DPC) is followed by Fuchs (NSP) and our own Damien Branaa.

While they all get away to about 20” ahead of the peloton it is only Norris who can keep going. He gets to 1’44 off the breakaway, whereas with the peloton closing fast the other two won’t survive. With Norris 46” up on the peloton with just 3kms left everyone is just going to have to go all out on this final climb to catch him.

The pace rises with only five of our riders able to keep up. 2kms out Goesinnen (DPC) launches from the front and we give everything we have left to go with him. Belda follows the attack and Mas, Carazo, Antón and Branaa all try as hard as they can to stick to his wheel.
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6goesinnen.jpg

Norris catches the break with just 1.3kms to go in an uphill sprint. Belda and Fothen (NSP) launch their own attack off the back of Goesinnen’s previous one in a last-ditch bid to catch the 7 men out in front. Goesinnen joins them and the three are also joined by a tiring Werda (TET) who is falling back. They won’t catch the others now but the three fresh men begin to sprint for the line as they still have a 21” lead on the rest of the peloton.

With the leaders it’s a photo finish on the line with Stemper just beating Summerhill by less than a wheel!
i899.photobucket.com/albums/ac194/OZrocker/PCM%202012/Career%20-%20Burgos%20BH/Tour%20of%20South%20Africa%202012/stage6winner.jpg

But the focus is all behind them as Norris looks to be about to take the race lead. Split in the peloton! Slik and Zabel (RB3), Rodriguez (XRG), and most importantly Russom and Janse Van Rensburg (MTN) have a small lead over the others. Branaa, Mas, Fuchs (NSP), Oliphant (RAL) and Van Poppel (RB3) are all left behind and lose a few precious seconds that could see Mas’ hopes of a podium finish go out the window in an instant.

As the rest of the field come in, I think it’s time for a recap of just what happened there.

•James Stemper (KPC) takes the stage and the mountains classification.

•Lachlan Norris (DPC) takes the overall lead and also the youth lead.

•Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (MTN) still holds on to the points classification lead.

•Norris, Goesinnen and Thompson’s Drapac now lead the teams competition.
