The ammount of hungry this thread gives to me is too damn high. Time to post some portuguese traditions:
Cozido à Portuguesa
Fios de ovos
And the best of all, the famous Pastel de Belém:

OK. Here is a Soup+Entries+Fish+Meat+Dessert course:
Caldo Verde - a broth that translates directly as "Green broth". Thinly sliced cabbage boiled in an onion and potato broth. You can, and should, add a few slices of pork sausage.
Alheira and Queijo da Serra (Garlic Sausage and Mountain Cheese) - an historically important sausage, with no pork in it, developed by jews who wanted to maintain their traditions while keeping the Inquisition away, and a somewhat creamy cheese made exclusevely from sheep milk.
Bacalhau à Brás - an olive-oil fried mixture of codfish, onion, shoestring potatoes and egg, with parsley and olives.
Favada (Broadbeans) - there's an number of variations, but my favourite is a stew of broadbeans, potatoes, parsley, mint, coriander, which accompanies a really unhealty but great mixture of fried pork, sausage, and crispy bits of fat, all fried on the excess fat itself.
I was jus Zabel'd by Miguel, who also went for the Pastéis de Belém, but we have a lot to choose from, so here go Travesseiros (Bed Pillows), which are made from pastry and filled with almond paste (and sometimes pumpkin jam) with a bit of cinnamon. This should be eaten hot, leaving the filling to burn your tongue and the pastry to melt in your mouth. All worth it.

Typical Breton food :
Sea food :
Pancakes (named Crêpes in western Brittany, Galettes in the east) :
Most of times they're salted if eaten for lunch or dinner, but they're sweet (different wheat) when for desert, breakfast, etc.
Expect to drink local made cider with it (no need for pictures here)
A famous one around Rennes, the galette-saucisse (pancake with a pork sausage) :
The famous Kig Ha Farz (literally : stuffed pork), aka Breton stew :
And all sorts of non sportsman friendly cakes :
Gpateau breton ("Breton cake", that's the name) :
It's a bit dry. The stripes are done with a fork.
Quatre quarts (four quarters) :
Yellow like butter, isn't it ?
And the worst for us sportsmen :
Kouign amann (butter cake in Breton) :
100 % sugar, 100 % butter, I heard they manage to add floor somewhere in the mix, but I don't buy that. Just by looking at it, you've put fat on your LCD screens. |

Ok, I do realise how stupid it is to look at all of these things in this thread while fasting (it's 2nd most important Islamic holiday, where we basically fast for 30 days) and not being "able" to eat for at least 2 more hours (if you decide to fast, you cannot eat anything from moment dawn appears to moment sun sets, so basically around 16-17 hours in this part of year), but I felt the smell out of kitchen and I just had to bump this thread and to share this with you.
So, here it is, another epic Balkanic meal called "Mantije":
So, it basically is a type of pie chopped to many of these little parts with minced/chopped meat in it. It's absolutely must try if you ever come to West Balkan, besides Cevapi and Sarme (we already talked about it in Cafe Pedro 6). Yogurt is something that is also must with it as a drink, but some people also put it on mantije and bake it like that, so it tastes better.
Now I have to wait for 2 more hours after watching at all of those pictures on first page. Yeah...smart Admir.

Fucking hell, I'm so damn hungry now. And I just ate!
And to the classic Irish things: Not the biggest fan of those, tbh.
Though the breakfast is fantastic, that and cocktail sausages are the two things you simply must have when you go to Ireland!
We also have a lot of really nice breads, a lot of them soda breads:

This food screams "you will die on heart attack by the age of 30". Runining italian food like that should be awarded with a prison.

Nice. Thread. I'm starting to learn how to cook. And i'm quite interested in food from other countries...Are there some local foods, you know, which are easy to make? And the "content" of the food should be available here in germany...
