Yes!
Now to defend until stage 6. Luckily no top sprinters stayed in the front group, and between us and the sprinter teams we should be able to contain the breaks. Just want the youth lead and I'll be delighted. More wins in May than the whole of the season before |

Nice win for Evian. Weird that the top sprinters lost contact there. |

This is a very typical example of sprinters sitting up on a non flat stage.
Of course it is illogical in this case because of the other issue of gaps not usually occurring on hilly finishes, it would have made sense to stick with the pack over the flat terrain leading up to the climb.
Evian really coming good here, PCT team in a C2 race needs a lot of points to make the trip worthwhile. Perhaps this will be the case for Evian.

True. It was very stupid move.
But GC wise it wouldn`t change a lot I think.
The Giacoppo group for example already lost 2'10 here and Maksimov/Thorsen/Drapac etc. don`t really belong to the hilly sprinters, so most likely they would have been in that group as well and with 6 flat stages it`s almost impossible to gain this time back.
In especially as there is another similar but harder climb on the 6th.
Congrats to the PCT teams. Oz for the TTT and Evian with the win here while the Oz guys still fight to hang on to their good GC positions.
And I was very happy to see that there were gaps rewarded tbh.

Nice to see Evian nearly on a streak already
Daniel in the big group, maybe some intermediate seconds and a nice climb for a Top20?

With Evian keeping to score, we need those three riders to hold on to this Top-10.
Drapac being dropped ain't surprising, but maybe he scores some points in the flat ones.

Nice to see that Olsson managed to get a gap on most others. Hopefully he can take a top 5 spot at the end.

Delighted to see that I was wrong and that gaps are possible!
Disappointing performance by Nardin though; he was really badly positioned. He'll have to do better in stage 6.

Thanks for the kind words guys
@cio: I think that ought to be possible. The plan was to use him as Petit's leadout, so you might see a bit more of him
@SotD: Gougeard in 9th was a nice result for him, hope he can do something more on the hilly stage.
3rd stage went pretty well, Petit did well to take 10th from so far back. Nice to see us controlling the race and former rider.Vassdal in the break. Congrats to Privatbank. |

Dafuq did I see? Maksimov winning?
Lolled about my train at first, I mean Hoelgaard as final guy? Shame Gomenyuk can't do well now, hope he can later this tour.

Drapac, not bad. Hopefully this is a sign of what to expect in the other flat stages. Would be nice if he could add a few more points here!

Looks like Hugentobler is going to go for KOM again which will be nice, hopefully he will continue fighting for it on future stages. Also I'm happy with Awang getting sixth considering how boxed in he was at the second to last corner.

Obviously the best way to do it, as he made the perfect path for Maksimov
Congratulations on your win, good to see Hoelgaard contribute, and let's just say his contribution was for the better, for my sake
Should be an interesting race, and it looks very possible to get gaps on the final 8 kilometers on stage 6. The GC should be decided there.

Drapac Too bad he missed a stage-win though, can't imagine him to do that well in all the flat ones..
Anyway, nice stage. Delgerbayar showing our colors as well as Drapac showing some good shape.
