I don't think you can compare Holland with the rest of the world. The cycling infrastructure is simply amazing. Most countries don't even have half the facilities you guys have. And for those countries a helmet is a must.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Infrastructure doesn't matter much. You can always take a fall at high speed. |

You still can crack your skull...
I'm not saying the netherlands have bad infrastructure or whatever, but if you say you shouldn't wear a helmet on a racing bike because the roads are nicer, that's not smart. Anything can happen, always. More risk on bad roads, but there's always a risk and are you willing to risk it?
Though I'd never race in Serbia |

You're right. I just wanted to show difference and to say that its not same. Yep,everyone should wear helmets, especially Serbian cyclists.

They should tackel other dangers, but I think helmets should be obligatory on a racer's bike.
I don't think the problem is with race bike users, they should wear a helmet in their own interest (as you say, it doesn't need others to get injured at high speed crashes). I guess complaints come from free time/work/shopping cyclists. And for their safety infrastructure does matter. |

What happens when now one of these people falls over a dies instead of only getting minor injuries because they didn't wear a helmet?
They will win a lawsuit and get money because of their stupid decision.

And thus, that's where the laws need to change, in the courts...instead of regulating who wears a helmet/religion standards,etc...

It may be good to change the thread title to "Cycling & Safety", or something? |
