I honestly can't choose any of those. They are all equally important. The management-aspect of the game is voefull, it's downright horrible. Each one of those elements needs to be there and thet have to work.
I didn't buy the 2012-version and I won't by the 2013-version either unless they do some major, major work on the management part. It doesn't need one or two minor adjustments, it needs a complete makeover.
It's almost unfair to compare any game to FM since it's as close to perfect as you might get, but even FIFA has a higher degree of managerialism than PCM.
There's a fine line between "psychotherapist" and "psycho the rapist"

I think what a new manager game should be was a real manager game. If you compare PCM to FIFA, a new game should be compared to FM.
In PCM you micro manage the game so much in the 3D-game, but it is not realistic.
It is not like Riis is giving Contador a message about when to attack and when to stop attacking all the time up a mountain.
If your leader is falling and need help, you should be able to just give the instruction to the team mates that you want them to help him get back in the pack. Now you have to give them some weird instructions that would not make sense to a real person.
Also before the race you should be able to set up the sprint train, who should get water, who should procect your captain and who should chase/join breakaway. And then you might change the instructions if anything happens. This way you could also calculate a lot more of the AI before the race in the same way FM does it, and recalculate when you make a tactical change. It would make the AI much more realistic since it doesn't have to react every second to what you do.
It would also need a lot more different stats for every rider, to make them different from each other in more ways. I could give an example of how i would like a rider to look, but i don't know if it is neccesary.
I know this is more for the 3D game, but i think it is an important part of the manager part of the game.
For the rest, i feel a big problem with the careerpart of PCM is the fact that a season take to long. I still haven't finished two seasons in a game, because it is to much work.
I cant tell how it should be fixed, but it is something to look into. |

I wouldn't change the 3D racing, it's the best part. The focus should be on the management IMO |

It is not about changing. It is about a completly new project, and the racing would not be completly similar to PCM anyway.
Anyway, i think the 3D racing has huge problems if you want to have a manager game. It works ok for what PCM is, but for a manager game it is more like the manager part of FIFA where you play your own matches then a football manager where your players make their own decisions based on your input. |

This.
I'd be more than happy to sacrifice multiplayer for a working career mode. And by that I mean the old multiplayer, not the joke that is Armada.

Can anyone come up with some suggestions on how the riders could appear more human?
I'm considering mental stats that determines how lazy a rider is to train, how often he would finish a race etc.
Other suggestions?

More Human
Simply just more interaction!!!!
They can request certain races, to race with specific riders.
Actually react to your decisions and results.
Active contract negotiations.
Can raise concerns with you, so you have to have a conversations with them
You can have a conversation about training, tactics, pretty much anything that could link to the rest of the game.

They could demand to lead a race they consider important to them, or fall out with other riders? |

@TheManxMissile: I like the idea of rider conversations. Especially in scenarios where the rider underperforms due to low morale. Such a conversation is a risk-reward situation for the player, if you indeed talk to the depressed captain you might get him back on his feet - take the wrong approach and he will be even more depressed.
on the other hand a player can decide that it is not worth the risk and let the captain try to get bach himself without a push.
dynamic stuff like that will definitely be considered

Yay, cause for me that is the best bit of FM
and is perfect when you consider the real relationships between people like the Schlecks and Brunyeel, Armstrong and Brunyeel
except without the doping

I think the most important stats for the riders to add would be a teamworkrate. If this rating is 50 (if you used PCM stats) he would do great when riding for himself, but add nothing when working for his captain. You would of course do a better job of letting the AI know if he is ridiing for a victory, or chasing breaks for his leader which the game doesn't at the moment.
The other would be a attacking stats, indicating if the rider can attack his way up the mountain Contadorstyle, or have to find his own tempo like Leipheimer/Basso. This way you would have to find your own tactic depending on your rider, and not everybody would ride up the mountains (or on flats) in the same way. |
