@lennybernstein I know He shouldn't have attacked near the end. The sprint was decisive.
@sutty68 It could've been better with more work from his teammates, I agree.
@the_hoyle He worked really hard, at least it shows he's strong
Degenkolb
He is in a bad way at the moment and will be out for a while. We're hoping for him to be able to return to the team for our next tour in the middle east but we're not sure. The doctors at a Marseille physio have diagnosed him with a fractured skull so he could be out for a while depending on it's seriousness.
And it is serious. he is out till the end of July so the team is in jeopardy. It looks like our campaign to get promotion to the World Tour will collapse. He won't be going to Le Tour where we need him most. And even if he can make a miraculous recovery in time for Le Tour his fitness will be terrible. I'm afraid I probably won't be racing at the highest level next season. His schedule and Kittel's have been rotated with Kittel focusing less on the late races and more on the current races. He is hopeless at climbing so we'll have a challenge keeping him in the time limit. Veeler's will be main lead out man and occasional leader now.
The team's next race
We're planning on entering a very flat tour next to stockpile some points. We do want that promotion spot but after the bad racing at Marseille and John's injury serious it'll be very tough. I will no doubt be given more chances but I really was hoping for that spot in the World Tour but I probably won't make it there this season. Especially with the fact that ,y contract doesn't run out this season.
A new trainer
We have signed a new top quality trainer to help the team improve. He is one of the best trainers in the world and would've probably made Degenkolb top quality if it wasn't for his injury. As the team is young every top rider including me is being trained by him.
Australian races
Albasini won the Tour Down Under. Gerrans is the new national champion of Australia.

Great! Gerrans is the national champion, but a shame for Degenkolb... |

Marseille was not the best race qua results, but a great effort by our young cyclist |

@ste_18 I know
@the_hoyle I have a feeling that won't be happening and you'll see why now
@Ian Butler He had an opportunity but he just didn't have it on the day.
Awful News!
Now in normal circumstances after bringing you some news I would wait till I updated you on my results before I reported something noteworthy happened but now the manager is absolutely livid. He was outraged and with good reason. We will not be racing Paris-Nice or Le Tour de France. In fact, no Grand Tours will be ridden by us this year. We have been shunned by the people organising the races and now the season feels like a waste. i was really looking forward to riding a Grand Tour but with stupid people in charge of the races we can't do anything about it.
The manager said he'd try to get something to happen but things aren't very bright right now. I had a chance, the team had a chance, of going to a large country with the chance of winning a jersey but instead we'll be racing in the Tour of Austria whilst 22 other lucky teams ride the biggest bicycle race in the world.

Shame you won't be riding any Grand Tours this year
You will have to take out your frustration on the races you will be riding in |

Though this doesn't mean he can't prove himself! Enter other races and have a good time there, it's not the end of the world |

@justza Looks like he'll have too :/
@Ian Butler Sure is He will try to prove himself in Le Tour de Langkawi and a few other races.
@sutty68 He will. He's domestique for Kittel in many races though.
@ste_18I know, if we get [promotion they'll have to give us a spot though
Had an accident in training today. Nothing too major, just a grazed elbow. I should be ready for Qatar as lead out for Kittel but we'll see. It doesn't seem too bad. |

A pan flat tour in the middle east. I am here as the second lead out man for Marcel for all the flat stages and to lower time losses in the TTT. I'm not a leader and will be protecting Marcel most of the time and leading him out the rest of it.
Four riders snuck away in the morning break, Gautier, Eeckhout, Friedemann and Lapthorne. I however, was sitting in front of Marcel in the peloton whilst Tobias (another young rider like me, we're quite good friends already) went on the hunt for some water bottles.
However, I won't bore you, this stage is about Marcel and this blog about me so I will skip right to the final 18km when the peloton was behind the breakaway by just a minute and the Argos train was assembled for the first time.
Me at the front after some work from Tobias (Ludvigsson). Unfortunately, my injury and Marcel's lack of fitness made the train a bit messy.
With 10km to go I was cooked and dropped off letting Mr. Hupond take over.
A crash happened. Here we can clearly see the idiot who started it all, looks a bit suspicious to me. A case of sabotage or just a simple mistake? It does look like he is trying to grab Tobias' bike...
Considering the lack of form the team has been having fifth is a great result. Farrar wins.

Solid result. Bad luck about the wild card entries but you know what they say: "every could has a silver lining". Let's hope so in this case

TTT (Simulated)
This TTT was hell on Earth for me. Being one of the lead stage racers I had massive turns on the front. That is why I finished ten seconds down on the rest of my team. I was hoping to stay bwith them but I cracked. It felt like an hour when really it lasted a short amount of time. nI went flat out for Marcel, hopefully one day if he ever domestiques for me he'll sacrifice as much for me as I did for him.

Solid result. Bad luck about the wild card entries but you know what they say: "every could has a silver lining". Let's hope so in this case
I sure hope this cloud's silver lining is very bright as right now it's looking like a storm :/ |

@sutty68 Pretty good yeah. Kittel has a shoit at the GC if he can gain enough fitness (was on 55 at the start of the tour)
@Ian Butler Eichel is a decent TT'er and climber as I hope to prove in Langkawi.
I'll be doing quick reports for the rest of Qatar, he'll be leading out Kittel and that's about it. The important races for him will begin in Malaysia.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage Three
We won by a few bike lengths after our best lead out train ever. We are not expecting it to continue though as Kittel and Veelers were in perfect form.

Stage 4
Kittel would be in the points jersey as he now lead the competition. Our train was strung out and ruined and I had to take a lot for Kittel. Kittel had to slide onto Gold Jersey Bennati's wheel. He could've/would've won but he was boxed in... He came in sixth with Farrar winning. I'd suffered and had come in behind the peloton...
Stage 5
Farrar in Gold with Kittel now in white of best young rider. He managed to come in third which is good judging by the very congested end. We haven't brought strong enough flat riders so we couldn't stay ahead of everyone at the end. Overall is now out of reach.
Stage 6
Our train blew up after all my hard work, I had set too high a pace. Veelers and Kittel were on Bennati's wheel. Then he saw an opportunity on the race leader Farrar's wheel. Kittel's own team mates blocked up Kittel and he wasted loads of energy. The race was a fail and everyone is annoyed at Gretsch. He was stupid today. Kittel was in great form but it was ruined by his team,. I carried out my duties perfectly...
We got sixth in the GC, the best young rider jersey, fifth in the points yet it could've been better if the weaker riders hadn't messed up I could swear that last stage was ours till Gretsch ruined it. Now though we're top of the continental rankings and are the best placed continental team in the superprestige rankings so it is still quite a successful tour for us. |
