I actually prefer this roster, because it's got some subtoppers but no real toppers (except Phinney in TT),
Porte should be able to ride top10 in the Tour, but better is almost impossible. Same goes for Velits, Vanmarcke is a rising classics rider...
I like it. |

Shirts and definite roster announced.
The new shirts for the VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling team have been announced early this morning. Also the real team roster has been announced, Pinot was the problem. At first he said he liked the team but when he left a whole lot of other good riders left. Luckily riders like Gesink stayed with the team.
Timo Mennen: “with the unexpected leaving of Pinot we had to improvise a lot, but I think that we have a very good team still”.
It is still not sure whether Keisuke Honda is going to be the new manager, for now Mennen is still manager: “It is true I have asked Keisuke, but there a lot of other names aswell so nothing is decided yet.”
New shirts:

Unfortunately I have to start in ProConti, but I am confident about promoting right away! |

Keisuke Honda new team manager VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling
In a press conference this morning Keisuke Honda has been announced the new team manager of VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling! The press conference was attended by Honda, Mennen and the chairman of VVV-Venlo himself.
In a statement the chairman explains why he agreed with Mennens plan to build a cycling team with the name of VVV-Venlo: “this is a great marketing opportunity for us, nobody has ever done such thing and if we can continue to be creative we can grow and become one of the best clubs in the world!”
Mennen: “I’m happy we’ve finally got our new team manager, I think it’s best for me if I try to keep a bit of distance from the team, as I tend to get too involved in things. I know Keisuke doesn’t have much experience, but with the help of our top quality trainers I know this is going to be a great success!”
Keisuke Honda: “I’m extremely happy that after an awful time I can finally go back to work. After having to retire from soccer I’ve been looking for an challenge and this is exactly what I need!”
In this press conference the new trainers were also announced and presented to the public:
Acacio Da silva: (Stage-racing and Climbing specialist)
Bob Rasenberg: (Time-trial and sprinting)
No photo available.
Djamolidine Abdoujaparov: (Northern classics and time-trial)
Jean-Pierre Heynderickx: (Puncher training)

VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling announces schedule!
The schedules for January and February have been announced today by Keisuke Honda and his staff.
January is really more another vacation month for the cyclists. VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling will only participate in one race other than the NCs of New-Zealand and Australia where Roulston and Porte will participate. As VVV-Venlo Pro Cycling didn’t receive a wildcard for Tour down Under this will be a training month mostly.
Honda:
"There will be a lot of working on the riders' fitness this month, as we want to be in shape as soon as possible. A trainingcamp is a good option."
Schedule January and February:
EDIT: Fuck it, I can't get the fucking table right.

Sergent wins New Zealand NC ITT!
As espected Jesse Sergent was the fastest on the road today! Jack Bauer came close but nobody was able to beat this guy! For us, Hayden Roulston took part. With a daily form of -1 and 60 fitness, his energy was drained when he came into the last 3 kilometres. He came in 7th. As he’s not a good timetrialer, it’s not a shame and frankly, we don’t care, even in good form he would not have been able to beat Sergent. This is a good warm-up for the NC road race!
Honda: “we are very proud that we have raced our first race. The result was not very good, but next up is Australian Championship, where we will are confident that Richie can win!”
Some nice pics were made during the race aswell:

Best thing is to select the text in an excel-sheet, and then copy-paste it to the story. Select the entire text again, and use the "Create tables with specified width"-button (the one between Youtube and spoiler) and choose 75% or 100%.

Australian NC:
The Australian Championship:
It’s always sunny in Australia and with a fitness of 55 and daily form of -1 Richie will have to be lucky to win here. As it’s a very tough race. Favorites are: Cadel Evans of course, but it is very early in the season, Michael Matthews, a good hilly rider and great sprinter, Matthew Goss is also very dangerous when it comes to sprinting. Richie will have to try to prevent the race from being a sprint finish.
The depart.
Basically immediately after the start it is raining attacks from riders, there are only 54 riders in the pack but a lot of them must feel lucky. The first attack is from Karl Menzies.
Karl Menzies attacking.
Finally some get away Leaders in the race: S.Law, K.Menzies, D.Tanner and W.Clarke.
These were ahead for basically all the race, but when the peloton started riding to get them back they were drawn back quickly.
20kms till the end: An attack!
McCarthy in the attack.
Jay McCarthy is easily getting to the four riders in the lead, the others were completely empty and immediately stopped riding and everything comes back together. Too bad for McCarthy, he was very brave to attack on his own though. About 10kms from the finish still no sign of Evans and the other favourites. Richie has been sitting in the peloton for all the race now, saving his energy.
Richie Porte attacking for us.
Finally he attacks 7kms from the finish and he quickly gets a 12 second gap going in to the descent! Will it be enough? He’s going all in!
Under the flame rouge he still has something left! Will he make it??
Porte giving it his all.
The answer is no, with 200m to go he gets outspeeded by Goss, Matthews and Renshaw. Richie Porte finishes in 4th position. Too bad as this was a great chance to win the Australian Championship, he’s devastated now, but in the ITT there will be a new chance! Matthew Lloyd from Lampre finishes in 5th place.

Sutty68: It's a shame indeed! Don't think you're gonna like the next result haha!
NC- New Zealand:
While Porte was getting a fourth place for us in the Australian NC, Hayden Roulston was riding the New Zealand NC road race. After finishing 7th in the ITT, he’s trying to get a good result in the road race. Favorites in my opinion: Jesse Sergent, Jack Bauer, Julian Dean and especially Greg Henderson!
In the start of the race Roulston is just chilling in the back of the very small peloton.
This race was a really, really weird one. I’ll explain: the first 20kms nobody did anything; the pace was around 30km/hour. After twenty-five kilometres three cyclists escaped from the pack. The names:
Clinton Avery | Joshua Atkins | Alex Meenhorst |
They quickly got a ten minute-lead, Hayden Roulston was sitting in the small pack. With 120kms to go Hayden went for it, the pace was way too slow and he didn’t understand why nobody did any work so he went for it. He quickly takes 10 minutes on the peloton, and with 50kms to go he’s closing in on the three guys ahead.
He can almost see them!
With 20kms to go Roulston only has to gain a minute on the escapees. He’s giving it his all on the short, steep mountain that has to be climbed several times. But the group is increasing the pace as well and it’s hard to get any closer now!
Hayden can’t get back to the escapees; they surely had some energy left in the tank! The three escapees will fight for the New Zealand NC-jersey. Clinton Avery is looking good in the sprint; he’s the strongest by a fairly big margin! In the background you can see Hayden coming under the last kilometer sign!
Hayden gave it his all but he spent a lot of energy getting those 10 minutes back. He finishes in 4th place. Yep, another 4th place for us…
The other 8 riders didn’t make it to the finish; they were out of time…
Comment from the manager: “Mixed feelings, I think Hayden was really strong today, he told us his form was very good. It’s a shame he didn’t come back but he had a solo of over 120kms and he came so close too! We have to learn from this and know that we must not attack too late next time, I find it weird that nobody else from the group did something. Don’t they want to win?”
