Tour de San Luis
The Team:
(I forgot to take an image of the team before the stage so here are the details)
Eden Bristow 70pts Team Mate
Matthias De Kimpe 62pts Sprinter
Daniel Irwin 70pts Free Element
Juan Crosera 63pts Leader
Vlad Hoaghe 63pts Team Mate
Javier Luces 65pts Team Mate
Adam Selling 65pts Free Element
Benjamin Tornbo 64pts Team Mate
Stage 1:
Goals: Nothing really of note, just go out there and see what happens. Get involved with breakaways.
Well, the team certainly fulfilled its target today, riding with every breakaway. For the first half of the race Irwin rode with 4 different breakaways, taking the Mountain Sprint in the process.
All these are reeled in however, probably because of Irwin. So we try another tactic, Javier Luces. He finally sets up a breakaway alongside Vorobyev (Katusha-Itera) and Sanz (Movistar)
Luces positions himself perfectly and wins both of the Intermediate Sprints.
After building up a maximum gap of 4'00'', the break is eventually caught just under the 10km banner by a peleton mostly led by Skil-Shimano.
Luces then falls into place as the first man in the sprint train, protecting Tornbo. The team moves up well to the front with 5km to go.
But we're up against some stiff opposition from van Hummel and Kittel (both Skill-Shimano) and Impey (Netapp). Yet the team work it brilliantly to give Matthias de Kimpe the victory.
Today's Winner:
By the way, I haven't modified any stats, but sent most of my cobble riders away to Roubaix for 10 days. That's why his cobbles are 79. Bring on the classics season!

Stage 2
Goals: Hold onto the leaders jersey. It'll probably change hands, but the team has some good climbers ready to take it.
About 1/3 of the race is run before the first break is created. As with yesterday, Luces is involved, if only to alleviate the pressure on our team to lead the peleton. Alongside him are Atapuma (Colombia) and De Backer (Skil-Shimano), later to be joined by Ovechlein (Katusha) and Mandri (Endura).
The first Intermediate Sprint goes by a whisker to De Backer over Luces and Atapuma.
Luces learns from it though, taking both of the next Intermediate Sprint and both Mountain Sprints to gain the Polka Jersey off Irwin.
Finally with 40km to go the breakaway is reeled in and the teams prepare for the final climb. At the bottom of the climb, with about 10km to go, our men relay on the front, pushing a high pace.
Finally with 4km to go it all goes crazy at the front as first Bristow attacks... then Crosera... then Irwin... then Seller... and even Hoaghe.
Only De Waele can try to keep up with our men and the team records a remarkable top 4 in this stage!
Results:
Sure enough the yellow jersey does change hands, to the capable Eden Bristow.
Today's Winner:
This lad is showing amazing potential, and I hope he keeps these performances up.
Reaction from the Directeur Sportif:
I think it's possibly time to move to a harder difficulty! |

Stage 3
The breakaway forms quickly, with a base of 5 riders, joined in 1's and 2's until it swells to the size of 13. Included were: Barbosa (LA-Antarte), Forero (Colombia), Wilkinson (Endura), Prishpetniy (Itera-Katusha), Thomel (NSP), Kaupas (Differdange), Oyarzun (Movistar), Boivin (SpiderTech), De Marche (Androni), Joseph (Topsport), Sano (D'Angelo), Oliveira (Onda), Jufre (Astana).
The first intermediate sprint passes uncontested, with de Marche 1st, Sano 2nd and Prishpetniy 3rd.
The second intermediate sprint also passes uncontested, this time with Kaupas, Thomel and Prishpetniy in the top 3.
The break builds up a maximum distance of 7'00'' but is eventually caught with 10km to go.
Then, with about 3.5km to go, the last 30 riders in the peleton hit the tarmac. This group includes no contesters for the GC and thankfully, everyone of them is able to finish the race.
Meanwhile, up at the front, our boys set up a brilliant sprint once again taking de Kimpe to the finish line.
Results:
There are no changes on the GC, Mountain or Team qualifications.
Today's Winner:
Wonderful talent. |

Stage 4
Sadly, I didn't realise that there was no race replay after a time trial so there are no race screenshots. Anyway, I can give you the results for the team:
150 Matthias de Kimpe +1'43''
95 Daniel Irwin +1'18''
78 Vlad Hoaghe +1'12''
67 Juan Crosera +1'07''
23 Benjamin Tornbo +40''
7 Javier Luces +21''
3 Eden Bristow +7''
1 Adam Selling 25'30''
Today's Winner:
Great win for him today, which is why he was chosen as our leader. |

2 victories in 4 stages, I'm on fire
I'm not really a sprinter in real life, more the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix type with a good kick in the end, but I do like winning

Maybe you should turn the difficulty up, because you win everything

Stage 5
Goals:
Hold onto the yellow jersey and if possible extend you lead.
It doesn't take long for a breakaway to form, this time made up of Thomel (NSP), Rosendo (Andalucia), Tornborg (Differdange), Parisien (SpiderTech), Coenen (Topsport), Wilkinson (Endura), Jufre (Astana), Forero (Colombia) and Firsanov (Itera-Katusha).
Again in a day of uncontested sprints, Thomel wins the first Intermediate Sprint followed by Forero and Jufre.
At the second, Wilkinson takes it by a whisker followed by Parisien and again Forero.
The break makes it right to the Mountain Sprint, where Jufre comes 1st followed by Fronborg and Thomel.
Then the attacks begin from the pack as Irwin, Bristow, Crosera, Selling and Hoaghe set off for Vodafone. The other main attacker is B. de Waele (Landbouwkredit). And it's the belgian that makes it to the line first.
Results:
Today's winner:
Good ride today for this man, thankfully not good enough to take the yellow jersey. |

Stage 6
Goal:
Our goal for the day is to ensure that the person wearing the jersey at the end of the day is one of our riders. This is the last stage where De Waele could possibly challenge. We can't let him.
On this beautiful sunny day, it doesn't take long for a break to form. The nearest contender in the GC is 10' behind. The break consists of De Backer (Skil-Shimano), Boily (SpiderTech), Bazayev (Astana), Herrada (Movistar), Geniez (Skil-Shimano), Palomares (Andalucia), Ovechkin (Katusha), Meier (UnitedHealthCare), Oliveira (Onda), Atapuma (Colombia) and Muraglia (Differdange).
In another day of uncontested sprints, De Backer takes the first Mountain Sprint followed by Boily and Bazayev.
The break makes good time up the mountain, so that by the time they reach the top and the 2nd mountain sprint, they already have a lead of 8'00''. At the second sprint, Herrada takes full points, followed by Ovechkin and Atapuma.
They continue to widen the gap finally reaching a maximum of 11'00''. However, then our boys take control of the peleton and start to bring the gap down. However, they can't stop the break from making it through both the Intermediate Sprints, with Bazayev (followed by Palomares and Geniez) and Boily (2nd Atapuma, 3rd Palomares) winning respectively.
The break manages to take a lead of 3'00'' into the penultimate climb. Our big three climbers set off at the bottom of the hill. Crosera is in great shape and pulls away on his own, overtaking the break very quickly. Meanwhile, Bristow is trying to stay in touch with De Waele, with the help of Selling.
Crosera makes it to the top of the climb with an unassailable lead. Bristow just pulls ahead of de Waele to hold onto his mountain jersey.
As expected from the climb, Crosera makes it all the way to the finish line. Bristow gets left behind by De Waele in the sprint. Will he be able to hold onto the jersey? Or will Crosera secure a Vodafone GC victory?
Results
Today's Winner:
Great win today. Just held onto the GC 8 seconds isn't a long time. Got to ensure that we don't lose any time tomorrow. |

Stage 7
Goals
Hopefully get another sprint victory for de Kimpe, regaining him the green jersey. Other than that, don't fall.
On another beautifully sunny day, it doesn't take the break away long to get started. Once again the main threat to the GC is 10' behind. This time however, the break inludes:
Thomel (NSP), Kaupas (Differdange), Chiarini (Androni), Anderson (SpiderTech), Vilela (Onda), Ortega (Andalucia), Quintana (Colombia), Toribio (Andalucia) and Prishpetniy (Itera-Katusha).
The break makes it to the Mountain Sprint with Quintana in 1st followed by Vilela and Ortega. By the way, I'm getting sick and tired of these uncontested sprints.
They carry on, making it through both the Intermediate Sprints. They get a maximum break of 8'00'', with Toribio coming first in both, followed by Kaupas and Anderson in the 1st, and Prishpetniy and Thomel in the 2nd.
They are finally caught by a peleton lead mainly by Skil and Netapp. The team does its best to set up de Kimpe, but Kittel comes from deep in the pack and out sprints everyone in the race for the line.
Results
Today's Winner
Great win today for Kittel. Shame we weren't able to finish this race with a win. However, I guess 6 out of 7 would be too much to ask. All the same, really pleased with the final stats. |
