Volta Ciclista a Catalunya
An under strength team from us, looking for experience, made the trip to Catalunya. Dario was the team leader.
Stage 1; Bakelants took the solo win, on a relativly boring stage
Stage 2; Ciolek took the mass sprint, ahead of JJ Haedo
Stage 3; Szmyd out sprinted Hesjedal for the win
Stage 4; JJ Haedo took revenge on Ciolek with a win
Stage 5; Hesjedal took the win, and the overall lead
Stage 6; Joly took the win from a two man break
Stage 7; JJ Haedo took his second stage win, while Hesjedal kept the overall win. Cioni was 16th and Zandio 18th, vastly out doing Brailsfords expectations.

The 3 stage race in southern France, was my second race of the year. Brad was our leader in a strong team. Lofkvist, Rigo, Russel, Alex, Geraint and Kjell made up the rest of the team.
Stage 1; I attacked early, and a 9 man break formed around me.
I was the best climber in there with only Primenta as a slight threat. I took all but one of the days climbs before the finale. I was still clear on the final climb, and solo. The rest of the team was charging to keep Brad and Rigo in good positions. Van den Broeck attacked and the peloton split. Then at 2km to go i was caught by the leaders. It was heartbreaking to come so close, but it was now down to Rigo and the rest. Kern got a gap, and held it to the finish, while Rigo was 3rd, Brad 6th, Geraint 9th, Thomas 10th, while i finished 14th.
Stage 2; I attacked early again, and won the days mountain sprint.
Sky totaly dominated the day and the pace was over 45km/h all day. Lofkvist lead out Geraint who took a close sprint win, with Russel in 3rd.
Stage 3; The 7km course was ideally suited to us as a team. Geraint won the stage, and the green points jersey, and came 5th. Lofkvist was 2nd on the day, and 10th overall. Brad clipped a barrier late on and was 3rd on the day, and 4th overall. Uran held onto 3rd overall. I managed to stay in 14th overall, and took the KoM jersey.
What a fantstic race for the team!!! 2 wins, and 123 in the TT, and 4 riders in the top 10, and 3 out of 5 jerseys!
This is the perfect pick up from Tirreno. I cant wait to get out on the bike again, but first im off the Flanders to support our guys in Ronde and Paris-Roubaix.

Time for the classics specialists to show their stuff.
E3; Hushovd won the warm-up race, while Flecha struggled to 21st
Gent-Wevelgem; Flecha struggled all day, and could only get into the top 25. While Hushovd took the win for Garmin.

Ronde van Vlaanderen + Paris-Roubaix
The final 2 cobbled classics, but a lack of race form, and an injury to Haymans, impacts on the team.
Ronde; Boonen times his move to perfection and wins by 20" over favorite Cancellara. Flecha rides to 10th alone
Paris-Roubaix; Boonen left it late today, but was unmatched in the velodrome, to win a record equalling 4th Roubaix. Flecha rode well to 6th.
With Haymans injured we were understrength, then when Hunt fell early in Roubaix we were always on the back foot. But still not bad results.

Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco
The Tour of the Basque region features never ending hills, but still a decent chance of a result. Rigo was out leader, supported by Lofkvist, Stephen, Lars Petter, Swifty, Christian, Xabier and Chris
Stage 1; Swifty fell on a descent and had to withdraw due to injury. Rodriguez went on to win, while Uran finished in the top 20
Stage 2; Matin won the day, while Uran rode well to 6th
Stage 3; Vanadert finished first alone, while Uran struggled to a top 30
Stage 4; Frank Schleck showed some good pre-Ardennes form to win while Rigo looked good for a top 10
Stage 5; Rodriguez made it 2 wins, and Rigo 6th again
Stage 6; Larsson won the TT, with Lofkvist 8th. Rodriguez held onto the overall, and Uran 7th overall
Brailsford was happy with this, and it keeps looking good as we head to the Ardennes classics

Crashes Season
Its that time of year, wet roads, cobbles and lack of practice, all make for dangerous racing. At Sky we've had one hell of an unlucky few weeks. First Possoni fractured a wrist in training, the Hayman picked up a fracture in Gent-Wevelgem. Swifty then crashed in Pais Vasco and broke his arm. Finally Jeremy broke a hip in a fall at Roubaix. Possoni is now back, and im spending 2-3days trainings with him a week.
Other injuries include; Albasini - fractured thigh, Boom - shattered kneecap, Chavanel - pattelar tendon tear, Farrar - fractured skull, Gadret - broken collarbone, Gesink - broken neck, Hushovd - fractued knee, Mosquera - broken neck, Andy Schleck - broken neck, LL Sanchez - patellar tendon tear.
I've kept out of injury, and am looking forward to my next race, Tour Romandie, in preperation for the Giro.
Yes i will ride the Giro, i dont know all my team mates yet but we will be targeting stage wins and breaks.
I loved the Crit Int, what a great race for us. I won my first ever jersey, the KoM. The only bad point was being caught with 2km to go. Brailsford was so pleased with me. My climbing abilities are improving week by week, bring on the Giro!

The Ardennes classics are long, hilly races which are always full of drama.
Amstel; Quiet until 20km to go. Gilbert made the first jump, and went on to win solo by a minute. Sky were caught out by the attacks, but recovered with Simon 12th, Edvald 13th, Rigo 15th, Stephen 16th and Lofkvist 17th
Fleche; Again mostly quiet, until Gilbert dominated the finale. He won comfortably by 30" while Edvald and Lofkvist finished 8th and 9th
L-B-L; The most prestigious, and Gilbert made it 3 from 3. Rigo made it to 9th, and the biggest surprise of the day was Stephen in 11th.

The Giro warm-up from Switzerland. This is my third race of the year, and it brings together all my Giro team mates, except for Lovkvist, who was off training in the Dolomoites. Dario, Morris, Russel, Davide, Alex, John-Lee and Greg make up the team.
Stage 1; Canecellara beat Martin to the win, while we just built form.
Stage 2; John-Lee went solo on the first climb, but was swallowed up 50km from the finish. Serpa took the stage win
Stage 3; Pineau won the stage from a two man move
Stage 4; Greipel won the races only mass sprint
Stage 5; Martin got one back on Canellara by winning the TT
Stage 6; Pineau won his second stage, while Chris Anker Sorenson won the overall

Forza Giro
The years first grand tour. An incredibaly hard route this year, lots of transfers, and some of the mountains are insane. It will be a tough one, but if i can get to the end it will be one of the best moments of my life.
Lofkvist was looking good in training, and could challenge for a top 10, with some luck and good support.
Greg and Davide will try to mix it up in the sprints. The rest of us will try and break, and hope for a win.
I cant wait, and Robert Millar is travelling with us, so we should do well.
Will report back after the first week.
Wish me luck!
