French national team for the Olympic rehearsal this August has been announced :
- Sylvain Chavanel
- Romain Feillu
- Yoann Offredo
- Blel Kadri
- Tony Gallopin
That selection makes sense, although guys like Voeckler, Roux, Roy, Jeannesson, etc. could have been there as well. |

Shame, they were quite an iconic team. |

How is this possible that the most successful team in the tour can't find a sponsor come on!? |

"...consistently reminding the media that the team had generated in the region of $400 million in media exposure during its tenure in the sport..."
And no new sponsor? I just don't get it.
If offense is the best defence, does it mean that defence is the worst defence?

I'm interested in the origin of that figure. It wouldn't surprise me if Stapleton pulled it out of his ass.

Well, the sprints will be a bit more interesting next year. Do you reckon Sky will go all out for the Tour and send Wiggo to the Giro or the Vuelta?

The Giro must change a lot with Acquarone for Wiggo to have a chance. The Vuelta would be a wiser choice for him. Anyway, I hope Sky doesn't end up as High Road 2.0, they have the goal to win the Tour de France after all, haven't they?

Read this article - good explanation.
https://www.telegr...s-way.html
snip....
Gradually, though, everything HTC-Highroad achieved morphed into the story of one individual. As a team, they have won nearly 500 races in the last four years, of which Cav has contriubed 70-odd, but can you list any of the other successes? OK, Matt Goss in Milan San-Remo this year but after that?
It wasn't conscious, it just happened. And just recently, it has really become a millstone around everybody's neck. Potential sponsors were only interested in Cav, which is grossly unfair on him and the team but a fact of life. He is perceived as the "talent", the "story", the "man". He was the magnet for all commercial interest.
...snip |

I'm finding that more likely now. I think it will actually be his first choice. |

First defecters to GreenEDGE are the Meyer brothers and Jack Bobridge. They are young, fresh faces of Australian cycling and will be good for the new team. Now only to pick up Renshaw and Gossy ...

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. But haven't the Vuelta been making it harder and harder anyway (not that I pay much attention). But I worry that Sky and Cav will fall out if they go half-assed for GC and green...

It shouldn't be that difficult to form a team capable of supporting both a sprinter and a GC man for Sky. They have Hagen and Thomas who are very fast and capable of becoming top leadout men and who also climb pretty well. That, plus another pure leadout man (Eisel?) should be enough, then the rest of the team focused in supporting the GC man (Wiggo).

With Cav on their team, there may be a lot of pressure on other teams to chase. Their domestiques may find themselves working on the front every day.

very brief statement from Cav on his website this morning
HTC Highroad
Friday, August 05 2011
I am obviously very disappointed that HTC Highroad will no longer be a team at the end of this season. I am hugely indebted and incredibly grateful to my teammates and all the staff for their support over the last 5 years and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together.
A number of teams have expressed interest in me riding for them in 2012. I have now made a decision I am happy with and will be in a position to discuss my intentions once everything has been finalised.
