After watching the highlights of yesterday's stage:
Am I the only one who noticed Contador's expression of pure pain and the fact that he was pedalling VERY unevenly? There's no way that knee isn't still injured.
I noticed it too, and apparently, our perception is spot on:

I still hope a miracle..that he comes back and will beat Andy finaly with final TT. There is impossibe to like younger Schleck
One interesting riders to follow..HTC guys Velits and Martin. How long they will keep up.

Martin is not really interesting, he will blow up in first or second mountain stage. Velits, on the other hand, if he repeats his ride from the Vuelta, will probably hang on to top10.
If offense is the best defence, does it mean that defence is the worst defence?

Next to Kolobnev also Popovych won`t start today. He suffers from his crashes plus a bad fever today.
So another RadiShack rider less.
I think all the other injured riders will start today. |

I've taken a risk and place a PCM bet on Cavendish for today.
He needs to do something if he wants to keep his green jersey hopes alive.
There was a very interesting tweet from Craig Lewis during Sunday's race
@craiglewis85 Craig Lewis
I've seen Cav make up 3-4mins on a descent to catch back on. Bernie, Cav and especially Renshaw are the best in the business. #tdf
Obviously, as they take their time getting up the climbs, their descending is never shown. This comment gives me hope that they'll be able to keep in touch over such a short day with only Cat 3-4 climbs.
BTW: I would recommend following Craig Lewis' tweets during TdF. He's following the racing and tweeting his thoughts quite a lot. You don't need a twitter account to follow him - just click the link:

you may recall he was injured during the Giro:
Here's another tweet from SUnday

Ice falling like rain.
Ridiculous that they woke Hoogerland at that time after what he has been going through. Unless they have reasonable suspicion.

Summer hail is quite unusual in the UK and I assume N France/Benelux/Netherlands, so many of the riders won't have seen them in July.
I checked Wikipedia and they are more common nr Mountain ranges
Hail is more common along mountain ranges because mountains force horizontal winds upwards (known as orographic lifting), thereby intensifying the updrafts within thunderstorms and making hail more likely
...snip...
Across Europe, Croatia experiences frequent occurrences of hail. |
