I think I just learned something. my head hurts.
edit: won't be able to record my rides since my table which had the Strava app broke down and I don't have anything else where I can record rides with nicidently I also don't have motivation anymore to ride. it's way to hot to ride anyway

My hamstring isn't feeling too good now, think I may have pulled it again, not a clue how like always.
With still 3 more rides to do this week and a 10 mile TT a week tomorrow

That is a fair price with 12 months service aswell is handy and over time you can always upgrade parts but Tiagra works just fine. Merida's are a good reliable bike but make sure you get the correct size as a bike that doesn't fit is simply a pain.

Leaving for the French Alpes tomorrow. Hope to have my first ride Saturday/Sunday, staying for a week. Will upload all rides on Strava, though
Planning to do at least: Bonnette, Vars, Allos, Pra Loup, Super-Sauze, Champs and Col de la Cayolle.

Oh shoot, I left them in the store!
It'll be a fun trip, I think. I've been in the area before and I remember Col d'Allos is car-free Friday-morning so that's worth getting up early for! |

This is going to be more of a rant than 'my cycling':
Got knocked off my bike this morning by a dick in an audi! Nice easy commute to work wonderfully involved getting clipped by a guy who was far too impatient to wait for another car to turn at a junction and putting me into the curb and I ended up slamming into some railings at the side of the road. Worse part is that the asshole didn't even stop to see if I was ok, and probably doesn't even know now what he did this morning!

Hard luck, I crashed yesterday and totally wrote off the bike, going uphill as well!, that's the second bike in like 8 months after I got hit by a horsebox.
This site really needs a 'crash thread'. |

I feel lucky reading this as I crashed on Sunday but both me and the bike landed in a bush without a scratch to the bike or me

I'm ok thanks. Just a little sore and stiff on my left hand side. Nothing broken or anything more serious. Bike seems to be ok as well. Just a slightly buckled front wheel, which I can easily fix with a spoke key, and a few new bumps on the frame / forks

the_hoyle - I know how you feel, i was cycling this morning when i came to some heavy traffic and a guy in front deliberately moved over to the kerb to stop me passing him, so i went around the outside and politely gave him the middle finger, what an arse hole

Two weeks ago I almost found myself in the peloton of the Tour de Bretagne for ladies suddenly there were specific traffic signs, people cheering along the road (I bet they were disappointed when they realised I'm not a chick ), a KOM, etc.
I guess it was the matter of only a few minutes before the peloton would pass.
So, I set a strava KOM record ahead of 8 or 9 people, on one segment (one that actually climbs, not a 150 m @ 3% sector like where they were getting ready to judge a KOM in the race),
5:19 (albeit with a strong back wind), decent. My ride of that day still has me as KOM on that segment, but 6 strava users beat my time in the following minutes, one by 39 seconds.
Erm, that makes one humble.
That was about 10 km away from the finish of a 130 km stage for the girls, and in the middle of a 60 km ride for me.
On a different note, I think I had my worse ever weather related moment on the bike this morning. And I had many bad weather moments on a bike since I'm cycling.
It was sunny but windy when I started riding. Unlike yesterday when the could bursts after I was out for 10 minutes or so, and managed to come back wet but not totally soaked.
After 1h or so, I had headwind, and very dark clouds came my way. I turned (perpendicular to the clouds, there was some blue sky farther in that direction), hurried up a climb hoping to pass before the clouds when... hell broke loose. Violent lateral wind bursts, rain that felt like hail. No place to hide (bus shelter or so), I was on the top of a hill, and thunder fell not too far once or twice. In no time there were like 1 or 2 cm of water on the road, I couldn't see shit, and was using slick tyres. I suppose I wasn't too far away from being thrown off my bike by the wind.
That lasted 10 minutes or so, but it was apocalypse on the bike. I was crossing fingers (they were on my brake levers actually) that no car would crash into me.
I thought I was too old to be out on a bike in such conditions.
There's also one thing I don't understand about strava power estimates. I didn't change my weight settings or anything else since I've started using it. Yet, on a 900 m climb, I set a time of 2:11 today (after 105 km), when my previous best was 2:42.
Estimated power for today : 291 Watts (on that segment). Estimated power for one month ago : you'd think it was 200 or something ? 289. WTF ?! I'm a bit clueless here. |
