Entertainment, it's just for the "fans" who watch hockey just because the fights, but why then not watching MMA were it's the sport? The sport is called icehockey and not Fistihockey
Even though you can say it's some kind of tradition, it's tradition because every other sport disallowed fighting very early while icehockey didn't made the rules other sports has
Where is the part entertainment of seeing 2 people fighting with bare fists? Is that cool or something? It's useless and senseless
Also the fights nowdays are pretty much boring, something like 2-3 landed punches and just jersey grabbing/hugging and there were fights like these back then.. Wow I can really get the entertainment.. If I want to see boring fights, I would also watch Klitschko fights, some boringness level
Games intensity? Scripted like at wrestling for what? No reason
Why do people think a fight can have a positive factor to the game? Why should I get encouraged by people who are doing stuff thats not part of my game?
It's maybe the loyalness structure that is also useless like not attacking the leader and when it happens just fight..
Do they make the games better? Do they wrap around really a score
Games intensity comes more from the score rather then useless fights for it's people who just watch icehockey for fights
And I think Bettman knows that
How can say then a "enforcer" like Laraque that he hated fighting and just did it because he was said to do so and was paid by the club? Oh I can see how important fighting is in hockey.. By grabbing the maybe worst scorer and say he should fight anotherone who is as bad as him in scoring and both taking out for 5 minutes because of fighting
If fighting is important to the game, why is the number of fights decreasing to now less then 0.5 per game? It was like in the 80ies above 1 per game
Also you don't need fighting to intimidate the opponent, you can play hard or maybe even with the
Hockey fans should understand with these occurences of players deaths by suicide with Belak, Cavanagh, Rypien and Boogard, people who fought and died pretty much "young" like Probert and I guess Steve Moore would have a diffrent live without fighting, it's because of fighting
Fighting adds nothing to hockey, would be soccer great when they were allowed to fight? No as it's unsportsmenlike, time consuming for nothing and adds nothing to the game
These peoples aren't machines and the "fans" have to understand that now, because when they don't now, when should they then?

Haters.... I think the jersey is Top 5 in the league! IMO the sleeves make the jersey so good. Try picturing it, without the sleeve design. And they had to make the sleeve design thick, or else it would be a little too similar to the Nashville 3rd's.
As for the fighting, go to a game. Tell me what its like in the building after the fight. Compare it, to what it was like before the fight. You have your answer.
As for being the fighter, there should be a clause in the players contract saying, I agree to being the enforcer, or something like that.

I really like it as well. But the trashers jersey was better to be honest...
But you are right about the sleeve design. It makes the jersey...
As far as the "enforcer" role goes, John Scott's words may cast some light on the subject:
I don't think people understand the nerves and the kind of mindset that fighters go through. I've stayed up nights not sleeping a wink because I know I'm going to fight someone the next day. It's one of those situations where it's not natural to go out and fight every day or to have that constant threat of a fight, even though it might not come. ... Some guys might not be able to sleep, and they take some stuff to help them sleep.
See what this men did to Westgarth. You have a minimal heart defect? Well, then you will be bared from playing professionally but the same organization that keeps you out of the rink incentives you to engage in an activity that will result in brain damage (even if you're lucky enough and it doesn't show until later in your life). The NHL Green is a nice initiative. Even if it is only a marketing stunt, I'm so glad to see they put more effort into saving trees than saving the core of the business.

I don't hate the jersey, but could've been better, yes it's a diffrent design with the sleeves but..
I mean in hockey there are some kind like 2 ground designs
Bostons and NY Islanders one
But with that Boston like design, was the St. Louis pre-lockout or the NY Rangers design that bad? I think not
But maybe I get used into it but somehow I feel they won't do a 3rd jersey..
Sorry but I can't afford a travel to San Jose.. ^^
And the Berlin game is soldout, but it's not of fighting but of NHL starts in Europe.. And in Germany, even the Pre-Season San Jose Sharks vs. Adler Mannheim last pre-season was soldout
Then you have to go to a soccer/football match in Germany
Sorry to say this but the NHL fans (especially in the US) can be described with 1 word, boring
A few chants, a few oooh or cheering after big hits (or fighting) and without that just silence.. Thats diffrent over here and hockey is here at the same level of.. maybe elephant polo or something like this
When I go to a soccer match here in Germany it's like 90 minutes that "feeling" like you have there maybe after a hockey fight, so I don't need that actually
And even in hockey there is like at least 40 minutes of chants and cheering for the team and not for just some highlights
Being the fighter is bad, actually it robs a place you could use for a young (skilled) player
I mean as a boxer or MMA fighter.. You have to get a licence and you are forbidden to fight for months after a fight
In the NHL you can fight for no reason and fight and fight all over again, how should this haven't an effect on those deaths?
Fighting is rulewise forbidden in the NHL but the 5mins at least are pretty much useless
Even Laraque says he hates fighting
I think many people are just for the bloodlust there
But these peoples aren't machines and the NHL has to step up there, but Bettman doesn't get anything right..

I agree with all of your post Rin, apart from hockey being boring.
I find that when I'm at a game, its quiet, because people are nervous, and also possibly "in the zone" watching the game. For soccer, I see all the chants as a thing to pass the time, because not much happens during the game, or atleast exciting plays aren't as frequent (atleast not to the North American eye).
But I see where you're coming from, and I dont want this to be an arguement, but rather a discussion.

Its the fighting part, if there are people who are watching hockey because of fighting, they should watch some other fighting sports like MMA or boxing or K-1 or what ever as I think these fights are more entertaining then hockey fights:
a few punches, a lot of sweater grabbing/hugging and often they fall on the ice and the referees try to get them to the penalty boxes

Sorry I haven't as I am watching NHL games just as the highlights on NHL.com
The NHL Challenge is under way here in Germany with the Buffalo Sabres against the Adler Mannheim on TV at Eurosport Germany.. The last time icehockey was on German TV , was the last NHL Challenge series in Germany when the SJ Sharks played the Adler Mannheim
Mannheim played better against SJ last year, Ennis scored very easy on a breakaway after the first five minutes..

He's gonna be an amazing dangler, probably the best once Datsyuk retires (as long as he keeps improving), so watch out!
Seriously. I could show a lot more highlights, but he hits too. He's skilled and can hit. He just needs to work on his speed imo, and he will be a very complete player, who is also very gifted on offense.
My Red Wings have won 14 straight at home tieing a franchise record! Zetterburg, Datsyuk, Franzan, and Howard are playing amazing. Looks like we'll be back in the playoffs for the 21st consecuative season. Hockeytown

Thought I never would see my Rangers with such success. First in the east. All they did was pick up Brad Richards, and now their one of the best in the NHL. Stanley Cup 2012!
