Imo he was just in pre-selection, but didn't pass the cut.
Die hard fan of Tom Boonen and Quickstep since 2004.

wiggins is not going to be at the tdf acording to cycling news (this was a few days ago) which is a huge mistake because i mean wiggo can cobble and he can climb a bit and he can still help froome (not that he'll need it)
edit: Gallopin's gonna finish top 5 on 2 stages and top 3 on one stage, I'm calling it!

So I'm going to enter in a TDF prediction game at my girlfriend's work. I'm paying 5 euros to enter, and I can win 50-200 euros if I finish top 3.
The rules: enter a list of 15 riders. For top10's in stages, you get points. Also, for the top10 in the final GC, you get lots of points for your riders.
Last year I entered with a mixed list of sprinters and GC riders. I would have had 3rd place out of 250 players if I didn't forget Kittel I thought he wouldn't break through at the Tour that year.
So for this year's list I have:
1. Cavendish
2. Greipel
3. Kittel
4. Sagan
5. Froome
6. Contador
7. Nibali
8. Valverde
9. Rui Costa
10. ???
11. ???
12. ???
13. ???
14. ???
15. ???
Options:
-Kristoff, Démare, Degenkolb
-Mollema, Van Garderen, Porte, Kreuziger, Van Den Broeck, Kwiatkowski
That's eight names for six spots left.
Questions:
-I want to get at least 2 more sprinters for the flat stage top 10s. Also, Kristoff and Degenkolb can give me points on Stage 5 and punchy stages. Which of the three would you pick?
-Which GC riders do you think will complete the top 10? Also, if they will score high top10s in mountain stages they can give me even more points. I consider all these guys a bit risky since I expect at least 2 of them to fail on the GC, either in support for their leader, or by having a bad day.

Sprinters Démare and Degenkolb. Degenkolb may not get the wins, but he should be consistently getting top 10s. Démare has a full team around him, where Kristoff has less support.
GC riders are a gamble... I would pick Porte, Mollema and Van Den Broeck...
Final spot: Voeckler, of course...

Kristoff & Démare as sprinters, mainly because Kittel will leave no space for Degenkolb this year (except maybe 2-3 hilly/flat stages max, which no one guarantees he'll win).
VdB, Kreuziger & Kwiat will most likely be best out of these guys in terms of Overall GC. It's generally a gamble because all of these non-leaders (both Kreuziger & Porte on first place) can just decide to have a "free" day and to lose massive time on only one stage, something that Porte did last year.

Yeah Wiggins can cobble a bit and climb a bit but he throws a tantrum when things don't go his way and him and Froome do not get along, at least with Eisel they gain experience on the road and a workhorse on the flat, add in team harmony with Eisel aswell. It would be a mistake picking Wiggins

Thanks guys.
For each rider, I have some doubts:
-Démare: On paper he should be able to get plenty of top5s in sprint stages. Problem: he has never finished a Grand Tour. Consequently, I haven't seen him beat many of the world's best in top races. If he abandons half way through with only some top5s in the flattest stages, he won't score me much.
-Kristoff. Showed what he is capable of by winning MSR and by doing a top5 in RVV. Good on cobbles, hills, and has finished Grand Tours. Should be good for many top10s. Problem: what's his form?
-Degenkolb. We know how good he is, but how many times will he not finish top 10 because he has to be a lead-out for Kittel? Otherwise good for many top10s.
-Mollema: Showed weakness in Suisse. Can he do top10 or will he have a bad day?
-TVG: Looks like a safe bet.
-JVDB: Can get a GC top5-10 - if he doesn't crash, which he has done as many times as he has gotten a GC top5-10. 50% chance of failure....
-Kwiatek: Didn't really perform fantastic in the build up to the Tour. Should we really expect him to get a top10 on his first ever attempt on doing a GT GC? No bad days or lack of form?
-Porte/Kreuziger: Both easily capable of going GC top10... if they werent a superdomestique. Expecting one to finish top5 sounds reasonable, along with both picking up plenty of Mountain stage top10s... Still, a 50% chance that one will fail on the GC is quite high.

@Shorts
This is Kwiatek's 2nd TdF. He finished 11th last year. I seriously doubt he wasn't going for GC back then.

Kwiatkowski(OPQS) and Van den Broeck(Lotto) don't seem to have much support for mountains their teams look like they're more focused on Cav and Greipel. |
