Not the worst time for Kangert to have a bad day, he only loses a few seconds because of the prologue.
What are Sagan's stats now, btw? |

Yeh, I hope he'll be more lucky towards the end of the race
Sagan's stats should be very close to what he has in the Daily DB. I've only lowered his MO and REC a little, to prevent him from contesting the GTs!

Paris-Nice: Stage 2
March 4th, 2014
Extremely boring stage today; hence the very short recap of events.
As we come down towards the finish, OPQS and Cannondale overpower the other teams to set up a fight between Cavendish and Sagan.
Most other sprinters are floating around nearby, struggling to find a good wheel to follow. One of the rare exceptions is Martinez, who clinged on to OPQS's train earlier.
Surprisingly, Cannondale prove to be the stronger between them and OPQS. Tom Boonen waits far too long before launching the final leadout for Cavendish; allowing Elia Viviani to bring Sagan several bikelengths ahead of the Manxman with just a kilometer to go.
After a leadout like that, nothing can be done to stop Sagan!
A disappointed Cavendish has to settle for 2nd. Martinez rolls over the line right behind him, but is beaten to a podium by Nacer Bouhanni.
Not too bad for a start, but I believe Martinez could've done better if he had jumped out of Cavendish's slipstream when it became obvious that Boonen couldn't handle the leadout properly. Oh, well.
Martin retains the yellow jersey, but Sagan is now only 1 second back.

Paris-Nice: Stage 3
March 5th, 2014
Today's stage weighs in at an almost ludicrous 43.5 km, due to problems with the road on parts of the initially planned route.
Still probably a tougher stage than yesterday's, because of the 1700m Côte de Podime featuring in the very last kilometers of the race. Its average gradient of 6.1% could definitely put the sprinters in trouble.
We jump to Côte de Podime right away, after an understandably very quick stage. OPQS are trying to set up Cavendish's revenge against Sagan by keeping the Briton near the front end of the peloton.
I think the picture tells you what's next, though...
Attaque de Tanel Kangert!
He opens a gap over the top as OPQS scramble together their last resources to bring a tired Cavendish back in contention.
They have at least managed to distance Sagan, who crests the climb a few meters behind together with a couple of team mates.
Entering the final 1.5 km Cavendish is down to just Renshaw, while Kangert remains some 15 seconds ahead. Behind Cav, Degenkolb is waiting and waiting for the right moment.
His concentration towards the British champion is causing him to miss a bigger threat catching up from behind, however...
Before they even realise the situation, Sagan has exploded away in pursuit of a fading Kangert!
It's going to be a very close call as he closes in on the uphill finish...
Photofinish!
Degenkolb also came across after finally making his move inside the final kilometer. His mistake earlier costs him the stage win however, as he was faster than both Kangert and Sagan in the end, but ran out of road.
Back to the "who won"-discussion:
Oman-style, baby!
To make the day even better, the top three are given a 10 second-gap back to 4th placed Daniele Bennati. Sagan is the new race leader as a result, with Kangert also moves up the GC - to 6th
Complete fail from OPQS, by the way. Cavendish was full of lactic acid after the hill, and crossed the line a mere place ahead of a non-sprinting Tony Martin, in 18th. Boonen might've been a better alternative today.

Paris-Nice: Stage 4
March 6th, 2014
Similar to yesterday, stage 4 features quite a bit of climbing over an abnormally short distance. Still no slopes that could prove too hard for the sprinters, but definitely enough to give Sagan an advantage.
Now empowered with the boost that comes with the leader's jersey, the Slovakian will be even harder to beat than before.
Some teams clearly intend to try beating Sagan, it seems. OPQS, Argos and FDJ all help Cannondale out with the pacemaking.
The rolling terrain is causing confusion, however. All teams want to continue speeding up towards the finish, but they don't want to break their sprinters in the process.
Therefore, no team really have control of the peloton by the time final breakaway member Sebastian Langeveld is brought back in the last 10 km.
OPQS are eventually the ones to organize themselves and set up a sprint train. It is once again Renshaw leading Boonen and Cavendish. Haussler quick tags on; soon to be followed by Nizzolo and Sagan.
Only one other team - Argos - dares to challenge. For them, it is youngster Nikias Arndt leading out yesterday's 3rd, John Degenkolb
Unwilling to make the mistake of waiting too long he made two days ago, it is Boonen who is the first to open the sprint. Arndt tries to respond.
He manages to do so for just about long enough to drop Degenkolb off behind Cavendish; jostling Haussler a wheel further back.
Unknowingly, Arndt then continues to help Degenkolb by hindering Nizzolo and Sagan.
Under the kite, Cavendish moves into the lead. Haussler immediately struggles to follow the acceleration, leaving only Degenkolb to follow.
Degenkolb does in fact seem to have bigger plans than to simply follow Cavendish to a 2nd place, as he pushes his way in to the lead...
With a real strongman performance, the green-clad German takes revenge for yesterday's miss!
For Cavendish, another 2nd. This time the problem wasn't a mistimed leadout though, but rather a too tough finish. 3rd goes to Sagan, who had to make a big comeback after getting stuck behind Arndt earlier.
Martinez picked a poor wheel earlier and never really made it back from there, unfortunately. He crossed the line as 16th.
The yellow jersey remains with Sagan, while Kangert is now 7th (+ 22)

Tirreno-Adriatico: Preview
March 6th-12th, 2014
Possibly to make up for ASO's relatively easy Paris-Nice route, RCS have come up with the hardest Tirreno in many, many years.
Right from the very first day - an absolutely insane individual time trial that climbs to the top of the Vesuvio - the GC contenders will have to be at their best. That day alone would've been enough to make this race incredibly hard, but this year ... it's only the beginning!
A couple of very tough hilly stages to L'Aquila and Chieti will also be taken on, along with another mountain stage finishing atop Monte Rotondo, and finally a 2nd individual time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto. Hey, at least they've kept the finish where it usually is.
There are of course also two stages for the sprinters, but that they're still in the race by the second of those is far from certain!
The mountain fest that is the race parcours has at least attracted many of the world's best climbers - as opposed to the situation in France. Two-time winner Vincenzo Nibali is back to make it three in a row; joined by JoaquÃm RodrÃguez and Roma Maxima-dominant Roman Kreuziger.
Then there is also the Belkin duo of Bauke Mollema and Robert Gesink, a for once - with Cavendish doing Paris-Nice - fully backed Rigoberto Urán and our own Kwiatkowski, who will try to tear up the race in the time trials.
Surprisingly, two of the best sprinters in the world have also showed up - even though Paris-Nice offers far more opportunities for them. Marcel Kittel and André Greipel have at least secured themselves two stages to decide who is the faster of the German duo at the moment.

Tirreno-Adriatico: Stage 1
March 6th, 2014
10.9 km in length. 8.2% average gradient. It's the mountain time trial finishing at the top of the Vesuvio - right by the crater!
Pre-race favourites Rodriguez and Nibali were expected to begin a two-horse race for the overall today, but neither managed to reach their highest level and finished more than 30 seconds off the winner.
That winner would be Mollema. Clearly having improved his form further since Oman, the Belkin-rider beat an also impressive Kreuziger into 2nd.
Kwiatkowski did an excellent race as well; completing the podium. The 3rd place will almost certainly be under attack from especially Nibali and Rodriguez later in the race, though. Looks promising, nevertheless!

Paris-Nice: Stage 5
March 7th, 2014
Last chance for the sprinters today, with Cavendish surely extremely motivated for a final battle against Sagan and Degenkolb.
He'll have to get over a couple of remotely challenging climbs in order to get to the finish however; which strengthens the odds for Sagan and Degenkolb.
Cannondale end up doing all the breakaway-chasing on their own, though. Possibly a new tactic from OPQS and Argos: hoping to have Sagan isolated or left with few team mates towards the end.
That is in fact exactly what happens, but only due to the fact that Elia Viviani was dropped on the last climb of the day.
The only problem for OPQS/Argos is that they fail to set up functional sprint trains too! Cavendish and Degenkolb both have a team mate leading them in to the final kilometers, but it is FDJ who form the strongest leadout with Demare leading Bouhanni.
Under the kite, Demare has pulled out quite a gap for his team mate and compatriot Bouhanni - forcing Degenkolb to open his sprint a bit earlier than he might've planned to.
Good news for Martinez, who is tracking the German.
It's going to be a close call as Degenkolb - now joined by Boonen, who lost Cavendish somewhere on his way up - closes in on the two FDJ-riders...
Such a close finish!
With a perfectly timed bike throw, Degenkolb steals it from Bouhanni!
Demare hangs on for a podium as well, just about ahead of a closing Nizzolo and Sagan. Martinez rolls over in 6th; an acceptable finish.
In the overall, Degenkolb cuts Sagan's advantage to a mere eight seconds. It will be interesting to see if they can hold on to their positions on the hard stages, starting tomorrow!
