Lol.
He was alone for 10k and still pulled that monster effort to keep the gap to Nibali.

ORICA-GreenEDGE for Giro d'Italia:
Brett Lancaster
Christian Meier
Jens Keukeleire
Jens Mouris
Leigh Howard
Luke Durbridge
Matt Goss
Pieter Weening
Svein Tuft
Will be up there in TTT, and in sprints, and possibly in long breaks with a guy like Weening, depending on if he feels good enough to go for overall, which l doubt very much. |

I'm surprised that Cannondale aren't sending Caruso. He was an amazing help for Basso last year. Is he trying his luck in the Tour instead, or what?
Caruso will get leadership in the Tour. For the GC Ofcourse. Probably the only Cannondale which won't have to work for Sagan.
Not a smart move methinks. Can't get much higher as low top 20 plus it's not like they will ride a bad tour with Sagan in their line up. Would have been way more valuable here as a 1-2 punch with Basso. (Basso and punch )

Yes but Nibali had just won Giro del Trentino few days before and not to forget Tirreno Adriatico. Hesjedal seems to be only helping his teammate, first in Volta Catalunya and then LBL. Dan Martin seems to be better bet for Garmin to win Giro compared to Hesjedal. I'm still not convinced he can defend his title. |

Ah, that explains why.
Would make more sense to have him as Giro captain and Basso for the Tour, imo. Although I guess that would take workers away from Sagan. Hopefully we'll see Caruso leading at the Giro in 2014, at least.

What would Basso do at Tour ? Nothing. This is his only chance at best top get his last Top 5 in a GT.
Anyway, not really greatly bald prediction but this might be finally the year that Pirazzi get his desereved Giro stage win.

But Dan Martin was peaking for those races and clearly had a top chance of winning, while Hesjedal was still building towards the Giro. Dan Martin is also a very good climbler, but Hesjedal is a better time trialist and proven GT rider.
It would also be too long for Martin to maintain that form and he would be over done mid way through the opening week.
Hesjedal will be hitting top form right on time, with pretty fresh legs. He will certainly be a contender for a Top10, and i think a Top5. If he climbs as well as last year (which is looking a good bet) then a podium is a real possibility.
But of course Hejsedal is not going to defend his title! Its a two horse race between Wiggins and Nibali. No-one will be able to beat them by normal means (i don't mean drugs, i mean crashes etc)

Top 5 might be out of reach, though, with this field. But we'll see |

Not sure if mentioned earlier in the thread, but Brajkovic won't ride the Giro! That can be a problem for Nibbles, I don't see anyone who could help him as good in the mountains as Janez here...

At least Tiralongo and Aru are imo at least same help as Brajkovic, both are better climbers and Italians...

Better than? Brajkovic? If you thought that, you must be joking, but Tiralongo is honestly and probably one of the best helpers atm in cyclings world. |

Nah, they're not really better climbers IMO. And I can't see them getting close to the Sky train with this team...
If they could if they had Brajkovic is question 2, though.
@Admirschleck:
Say hello to Laurens Ten Dam
But I agree, you're right, Tiralongo is a great helper. Not good enough for Nibbles without Brajkovic I think.

I am not joking boys, Brajkovic is rather pure stage racer, than some sort of awesome climber. Tiralongo is top climbing domestique for Giro every year and Aru is soon to become one of the best climbers around, so no joking here.
Edit: Matching the Sky train is the other thing, that is almost impossible with anyone outside of Sky.

Thats your opinion. I still think that Brajkovic can be great helper for Nibali, even greater than Tiralongo. He is stage-racer but that does not means he cant play "helper" role.
Jesleyh - I said one of the best. Ten Dam is beast for that, also! |

*Insert 'Blanco Pro Cycling Team is awesome, and they can do that' comment here*
Nah, seriously, you've got a point with Tiralongo, he's a great domestique.
But agree with me, who'd you prefer as extra domestique, Brajkovic or Kangert?
Tiralongo & Aru would ride the Giro anyway, so it's a loss fo the team that Brajkovic didn't participate, since it's not like Aru/Tiralongo replaced him, they were extra domestiques.
@Admir I know

I'm currently watching the 2010 Giro to psyche myself up. I.E. the best GT of the past 5 years. Really interesting to see where some of these riders have gone. Wiggins was still a prologue specialist

That's a dangerous thing to do. I did that last year, and the contrast of an awesome GT with a terribly dull one caused me suicidal tendencies.

If there is a Sky train for Wiggins like in the Tour. Basso might actually be able to podium. The Sky train is probably the best thing that can happen to him.
